I'm sure he might John. And I'm not even doubting that Trevor is a silent and will be Irish when it's all said and done.

I just have a hard time with people that feel the need to scream their info from the rooftops in a clear and apparent need to be heard and taken seriously. Message forums are full of "iniders" and people claiming to know somebody or have some "connections"... it gets annoying sometimes. It's like internet land is a giant battle for credibility and everybody wants a slice of the pie. Everybody wants to be "that guy" who "knows people" and has "inside information"...

Strangely though, you never see the REAL insiders bragging about who they know or what they know on some internet message forum. And you sure as hell don't see them posting it 4 times in 4 different places because nobod is acknowleding their "connections"....

You think Mike Mayock or Adam Schefter is hanging out on RamsFans.net begging people to listen to their rumor?

Well sure, but they're also the kinds of guys who hang around sportswriters. We're just fans here, and so it's understandable that we react a bit more excitedly when some good news comes down the pipe. It's not like he has some other venue by way of which he can share it ...

You'd be surprised. I know a recruit who was considered a heavy Notre Dame lean one year who saw the chaos on message boards after a loss. Fans blaming players and blaming coaches and was rather turned off by the mentality of the fanbase. It might seem trivial, but it is taken into account by a good amount of recruits. This particular recruit decided on the Buckeyes instead.

I think a recruit could very well look at an internet message forum and come to that conclusion. I don't know for sure, (because I don't hang out on Nebraska Huskers forums) but I would venture a guess that there aren't as many Husker forums on the net, and I would venture another guess that the couple that are on the net aren't nearly as busy as the slowest Irish forum.

So if you don't think that the lofty expectations from rabid ND fans that outnumber Husker fans by a large margin is enough to drive some prospective players away from this team, than I think you're sorely mistaken.

We view things as ND fans.... these incomings and possible incomings don't necessarily view things from our perspective. And the sheer number of fans in this particular fan base, along with the high expectations in this particular fan base is most certainly enough to drive a potential recruit away.

And all it takes is one look at a forum like this and some of the retarded comments like "forget Trevor start going after Page" to possibly make one of those recruits say "screw it, that's not the kind of situation I want to play in".

Ok ok lets all calm down - ND=NC isn't an idiot and neither is Colonial.... lets all take some time out and relax. This goes double for you rockne19, although I doubt you ever read followup on any of your 'posts'.

If he is one of our new not-yet-announced silents then that is fantastic news. As with anything where there is no way for someone to backup the claim (yes I know you don't want to spill the name of someone that gives you info and I respect that) I will just wait until he signs on the line that is dotted. All indicators point to ND having a serious lead here, so nothing to sweat.

1 - Being one of our first offers
2 - Choosing our banquet over theirs (which costs a lot of travel $)
3 - 6 (I think) visits now
4 - Reports of him having a good time with the '08 family

The role of the online message board is of minimal importance to prospective players. That being said if you follow it at all, you know that there are certainly instances where a recruits parents or even the player them self read these things. Even if they didn't it doesn't help anyone to tear down a person you have likely never met anonymously. That makes you a coward.

Examples:

1 - John Goodman was quoted talking about how dissapointed and crushed he was when he read stuff about recruiting early on and people were saying how he wasn't any good and couldn't be a great college player (my guess is this is from scUM boards).
2 - EMan - RJ Blanton's step-dad who I believe even posted on this site before.
3 - Deion Walkers dad - Who apparently posts on rivals

This role for us as fans is minimal, so don't squander what little opportunity you have to offer a positive contribution. People are quick to rip on players who don't give effort in 60 minutes of a D1 game. How hard can it be to not talk trash on a potential player?

Maybe he wasn't able to get online last night, and that's why he didn't post it then. All I know is:

1. This is a guy who DOES have connections to the Youngstown area.
2. So does Pelini.
3. What he's saying about Robinson squares with what's being said elsewhere.

Who knows for sure? Maybe he is just free-riding on info from other boards. But maybe he did talk to somebody in the know and was excited to pass along what he heard. Naturally I'm not a fan of starting multiple threads on the same topic, but if we consistently shout down anyone who claims to have "insider" info, then what good are these forums? Are we just supposed to sit around and wait for the Rivals people to tell us what's up?

I just don't like this kind of bickering, and I for one hadn't seen what was being said on the other boards and so was happy to get the info, however it was originally obtained. (And I'm pretty sure it was obtained in just the way he said, based on what I know of him.)
