I can say the one thing this year has taught me is the dedication of a select few of us die hard fans. I tip my hat to all of you and love the fact that we still wear our Blue and Gold...umm or Green and Gold, or umm... Blue and Green....or Green and black , well you get the picture. I live in Texas and the fallout is brutal down here, everytime I go out, people always are pointing and talking Sh*t. It is almost as bad as New Orleans last year at the sugar bowl. My wife and I went down there and sat in an ALL LSU section during the Sugar Bowl. I was so proud of my wife, she only got me into 3 fights!!! GO IRISH

EAT HEARTY GENTELMEN, FOR NEXT YEAR...WE DINE IN THE BCS!

What makes me laugh and wonder why you Irish Apologists never address or question is the fact that year after year you supposedly have a 5* Recruit Class. Please! If that is the case where is the accountability? You use the excuse of youth and inexperience, but why do other teams seem to succeed with the cards they are dealt (See U of Georgia ...3 Freshmen on O-Line). Youth is not an excuse. Everyone is young! Why aren't CWs recuits from Class of 05 and 06 producing now? Here's your problem - which is the same problem in places like Nebraska and Michigan, The warm states are sucking up all the talent that used to go up North. Now that air conditioning has been invented, they are staying home rather than going to places like Bugaha and South Bend. Why do programs like USF, UCF, succeed despite being off the rader when it comes to recruiting classes? I think CW got to South Bend and has quickly realized that not only is the cupboard bare, but restocking it isn't as going to be as easy as he thinks.

Another issue is what effect will this dreadful team, a morbidly obese coach and a dreadful city do to future recruiting? The only thing I see ND having going for it is that TV contract.

Looks like the SEC fans I am surrounded by have found the forum.

and it appears that CW is "restocking" quite nicely

Back to the original idea of the post before this navy guy fell overboard.... This year has made me realize how die hard of a fan I truly am, and how this doesn't apply to most people around me. Everyone I talk to about sports, almost everyone, don't seem to be watching when their teams go down in flames. I'm from Detroit, you should see the Tigers fans last year, the Lions fans this year, the Pistons fans couple years ago... but me, I watch every saturday and wait for my phone to ring from my Brother with his report on how Notre Dame is the worst team ever and since they lost to Michigan they basically lsot to a Division 2 school.

Well, you know what, I will continue to watch. It hurt me so bad to see them lose to Navy, but in my heart it will feel so much better when we murder these teams in the future.

I will watch because my heart is with the blue and the gold.
I will watch because I still get goose bumps watching those golf helmets rush out of the stadium to the best college football song ever.
I will watch because no matter what our football players do on the field, it is what they do off the field that I respect the most when compared to other football programs.
I will watch because these kids left homes, favorable weather, and monetary benefits to play for a school they believe in, a coach that they believe in, a tradition that they believe in.

Let everyone get on Weis this year.... he is only going to work even harder to restore this program, and when he does, he WILL NOT let up when we are up 35 points.... he is going to take a page out of the Patriots book this year, and defeat every team by as much as he can in order to prove his point that we are not as bad as everyone said.

It dissapoints me John that you are discouraged right now with our future, and I completely understand that you are trying to be a realist. I've spent almost a year on this site before I started posting, and I ALWAYS enjoyed reading your posts because you know what you are talking about. However, I hope this time you might be mistaken.

That's actually kind of humorous.
I highly suggest doing a little homework before opening your mouth. From this post, you come off like somebody who has been watching college football for about 4 months.

WTF, shove-off sailor. Don't you have some Marines to drive to a fight somewhere?
Oh and when you all have a NC under your belt, then come back here and talk smack.

I think you answered your own question here.

According to posters on IE, he seems to be doing well restocking.

This team could not ask for better motivation than this. I think we all realize that this year is a complete wash. The analysts will use the entire offseason to speculate, and berate the Irish. All the young players got a wonderful dose of humility. I believe with a couple of coaching changes, and alot of hard work in the preseason, this team will come together next year. As Weis said,"enjoy it now". I believe next season will be the re-birth of NOTRE DAME FOOTBALL!!

P.S. Charlie, please beat Duke. I'd love to enjoy my first game in attendance after paying handsomely for them before the season started.

WHHAAAMMM!!!

Do you think "so-called" 3, 4, 5 star "rated" athletes don' carry some ego with them? I read somewhere on this forum that a recruit would not go to Notre Dame unless Weis himself showed up at his home to "beg for his lil highness" (my own words).

Give me a hungry no star ATHLETE who wants to play for NOTRE DAME. Quit blowing smoke up a 17 year old kid's ass. I'm glad JC is on the bench. He needs to EARN IT.

{While I'm on the topic, Sharp is essentially a freshman as well. My neutral eye says start Sharp, but give JC some time as soon as he is healthy.}

:jerkit:

Which would explain why CW has verbals from not one, but TWO four star guys from Georgia. DT Omar Hunter from Buford, and DB Jamoris Slaughter from Stone Mountain.

Sorry, I forgot to read the fine print...only CW and ND apologists need apply. Aren't you the same guys who tarred and feathered TW for roughly same or better record? If you'll go back and read my post I never gloated over even mentioned Navy winning. You guys must be extremely alert and sensitive to the BC, USC, Michigan, LSU, etc fans logging on after thrashing your team - very sensitive. Now, if you can get over your denial, try addressing the question - why is CW given a pass for using the youth as an excuse since NDs recruit classes are always considered top notch? Or is it that those recruiting classes have truly been 1-8 quality? Is it remotely possible that CW isn't all you hoped he'd be? I've read you guys blame youth, experience, OLine, other teams, karma, etc, but never CW or never admitting to yourselves that ND just may not be elite draw, present or future that it once was.

dpnavy, you are not even worth this argument because I have seen it so many times on so many boards and I am just sick of it. Charlie Weis IS our coach, Notre Dame's record IS 1-8, we currently ARE a 1-8 team. I'll deal with it and I'll move on, as for you... well.. I'm not so sure.

You haven't read much, Weis has taken alot of shit on this board this season. But being the true fans that we are, We try our best to stay optomistic about our future. Next season if N.D. is not up to par, Then off with Weis and bring a real winner in.

Also, you say N.D. is not elite like it used to be? My memory may be a little vague but it seems like two years in a row, we were just recently in BCS bowl games. We got beat but we were in them.

You talk about our top 5 recruiting classes year in and year out. Go to Scout and Rivals.com and compare the rankings for this years Juniors and Seniors. As a matter of fact since you seemed to have read everything on this board, You should have already seen the recruiting rankings of those classes.

Ty wasn't getting anything done as far as the future of N.D. football. No big recruiting classes, No BCS bowls, No Big wins, etc etc etc. At least Weis has brought some potential into the program. Probably what is saving his job now.

One of the main reasons N.D. fans aren't yet willing to give up on Weis is that He helped lead us to 2 BCS bowl appearences two years in a row. Do you really think that if the same team was here that we had last year we would be 1-8? No so that tells you that there is something else playing into the lack of success for N.D. Other than just Charlie Weis. He may not be the answer, He'll have another year to prove if he is the Coach for N.D. or not.

I am ND for life. This ship could sink and I will still bleed Navy Blue and Gold. Anyone want off the bus can take a hike but do not come back when we retake our rightful place on top of the mountain. We are still ND and that means we are better than you, no matter what the score says your school still sucks.

This is a really good point Wham. Perhaps something we have not considered as much is how the lack of depth could affect how hard the players practice. Without very many incumbents to beat out, it might be harder to bring yourself to that next level. You just need to shine ahead of your peers, which might not be that extra level that it takes to be great.

Just another factor in the long list of problems we have this year. Oh, and to all the trolls, I think CW has a large share of blame too, this is not an excuse, merely another issue.

I STILL wouldn't take back a single penny that i spent on my season tickets, even if all the home games are losses. Go Irish.
