I went over to huskerboard.com for a few reasons today just to stir the pot a little bit and see what the pulse was on the state of their football program. Man are they pissed haha
If you care to take a look I posted under the J Gray thread under the name "brian hates mark may"

1) I went on the jonas gray thread to see what they were saying. A few name calling, a few said, "we don't need you anyway." I posted that Jonas wanted ND all along and didn't get an offer bc he didn't come to an ND camp he was supposed to. Then I told them not to be surprised if Trev Robinson chooses ND based on the way they treat recruits who are pondering their college choice

2) I copied and pasted an article on the Gray thread there as well from an Omaha newspaper. The reporter interviewed the players to get a feel of alll the heat they are taking from fans. Players said NU fans are yelling "you suck" and things like that from the stands.

3) I then pointed out that something like that would NEVER happen at ND. Let's put it this way...they don't like me much over there haha

Because we always love it when people do that to us.

I can understand lurking to see their reaction to what is happening, but fanning the flames is not nice.

Polish,
I actually do not find this very funny. There is plenty of crap that could be stirred here due to our stellar season. He who lives in a glass house should not throw rocks!!!! Trust me, ND is a glass house right now.

I repped him.

I would not have done the same, but he was being honest, which most flamers lack.....intellectual honesty (not to mention the whole story behind their bombs).

Maybe I didn't word that the best, or maybe you guys misunderstood what I said. I didn't go over on that board to piss in anyone's Wheaties. I really went over to see what they were saying about J Gray, Robinson, Compton, and Gabbert.

I welcome any and all discussions with other team's fans whether it be about the fan base, football, coaches, recruiting, whatever. I don't see anything wrong with that. And that is what I was hoping for over on that board. Unfortunately, didn't turn out that way.

Don't sweat it...it's kinda funny. They are having a total meltdown. They have been bad fans. The players know it too.

And their administration is absolutely botching the whole damn thing.

Polish,

I came over to this board a few days ago as a Cornhusker fan to see how ND fans are reacting to this season. As I posted a few days ago on this board, I think our programs are heading in two different directions...with NDs on the way up...with patience.

It's so easy to be a good, classy fan when your team is winning. It's always been easy to be a Cornhusker fan when we we're beating the daylights out of Iowa State, Baylor, Pacific (I don't think they even have a team any more), etc. It's easy to applaud the team we just crushed 62-17 as they leave the field. But now that we are pretty much stinking things up, many of the fans are not being good, classy fans.

Nebraska, much like ND, has one of the richest winning traditions in college football. Shoot, before Bill Callahan, we had won at least 9 games each season like 28 of the 29 seasons. But those days are long gone. It will take years, if ever to restore the luster the Nebraska Cornhuskers had in the 1990s.

I am glad I was welcomed onto the ND board here. I will always try to mind my manners. I am not here to flame, troll, etc. I respect the ND program. All of college football suffers to an extent when ND is having a bad year.

Nebraska fans are extremely sensitive right now. I'm sure your comments about Jonas Gray were "greatly appreciated". I've read many posts on this board...and I saw the reaction from the ND fans when a few commits from last season decommitted and went to Florida and North Carolina...I believe on NSD. It sucks when you were really excited about getting a recruit, only to be let down at the last second...especially in the midst of a season like the current Nebraska one.

I admit, many Nebraska fans need to grow up. Yes, some are yelling from the stands at the players...and that's just disgusting. I will not defend those fans...they're what I refer to as fair weather fans. And yes, as LOVEMYIRISH points out, the administration is botching the whole thing.

UNForLife...thanks for a great post. I wasn't going over there to pick a fight. Just wanted to get a sense of what UN fans thought of what was going on.

Like I said...I love talking college football with anyone who's sensible and knows how to have a good conversation instead of tooting their team's horns. UNForLife...you hear anything about Bo Pelini being flown into Lincoln today or this week?

Yeah, there are all sorts of rumors. Frankly, I'm just not so sure about Bo Pelini as the head coach. Yes, he's got the ties to the program...and he is a heck of a defensive coach. But I believe he's got aspirations for the NFL. I dunno...several things that make me hesitate on this guy.

Personally, with the talent level a bit down at Nebraska, I would like to see us get a coach that can install the spread option offense. The spread option can level the field somewhat when a team is totally outclassed on talent.

I work with 3 die hard Husker fans and every one of them came up to me separately after the Georgia Tech game and reassured me that ND will be a power again soon. I respect Nebraska and it's fans and wish you the same fortune they wished upon me.

Yes, Notre Dame will be a power within 3 years...mark my words. The murderous schedule you have played so far this season will only benefit these players once they get some wins and confidence under their belts. I've heard some national folks (Cowherd and his ilk) reference NDs schedule and how soft it can be since ND is not in a conference. Although many Cornhusker fans will tout their supposed schedule, the history can be embarrasing. Did you know, since 1960, Nebraska has only opened the season ONCE on the road against an opponent that FINISHED the season ranked in the Top 20/25 (AP)? Yep, 1978 Alabama...and we lost. Hang in there Irish fans, the end of your suffering is near.

Pelini is a huge get for you guys. He is the gateway into north east Ohio football. I know you got DJ woods from Strongsville, but Pelini is a graduate of Mooney High School in Youngstown Ohio. If you look at the scout.com top 100 for 09 Youngstown has 3 prospects led by Mooney's own John Simon. Bo's brother is currently an assistant coach at Mooney

As long as you weren't wizzing on their electric fence (or peeing in their Wheaties as you put it), then I guess you just picked a bad time to talk honestly with them.

I don't have a problem with others comming here and discussing football topics, or recruiting. I've done quite a bit of it myself. I used to be a regular on one of the bigger Florida boards when I had more time on my hands. I just know that when you are already really fustrated about what's happening with your program most people don't like other's comming to their board and chiming in about what they think is wrong with the program. In your case it may have come off that you were rubbing their nose in it about Gray, and this...

3) I then pointed out that something like that would NEVER happen at ND.

may have come off like a we're better than you attitude, weather it's true or not. We all know that wouldn't happen at ND, at least not in football (People got on Chris Thomas's back pretty hard a few years ago.), but that doesn't mean you have to go pound your chest about it on someone else's board.

Like I said that might not be want you were intending, but that's probably how it came off to them. Given that they are already pretty upset about the way things are going.

(People got on Chris Thomas's back pretty hard a few years ago.)

I remember that. I also remember the football team getting a pretty hard time in '03 and '04, even from the student section. Maybe it wasn't /players/ who were being booed, and maybe most of it was coming from people who weren't students, but it was a pretty bad scene now and then.

In the latest news out of operation Abondon Ship, five star QB Blaine Gabbert officially decommited to join Bryce Givens, and Jonas Gray. When you add that to TR's previous decommitment, and narrowly missing out on California safety Brandon Leslie to Georgia Tech it really can't get much worse. Although I'm sure it will when they lose Compton, and/or any more recruits that decide to jump ship.

Back in mid July I remember stating that there was something wrong at Nebraska but I just couldn't quite put my finger on it. This caused a NU fan on this site to jump all over me. I wish I could find it to quote myself if for no other reason then to just pat myself on the back.

Yeah, NU and ND fans are some of the very best... why make us look bad by "stirring the pot"...

discuss with them... don't discuss at them

that would have been my angle... at least with Husker fans...

Yea, I found it! It was in TR's profile. I posted this during the afternoon on 7/14/07.

I don't think so. He already really liked ND, and most likely favored them before. I think the distance hurdle was the deciding factor the first time around. Why would he go back and take a visit to a place he's already been many times just to make sure he wants to stay with Nebraska? There's something going on at Nebraska. They also might be losing one of their commited WR's and Brandon Leslie pushed back his announcement date just before he was exspected to verbal to the Huskers. From what I've heard, and other similar cases I've seen I think Trevor is now pretty sure, if not completely sure that he doesn't want to go to Nebraska, and is probably heavily favoring ND with Michigan as a fall back plan.

Disclaimer. I was thinking about Givens who is an OL not a WR, but you get my point.

*Pats himself on the back*

Between this and calling Marvin Austin to UNC I'm starting to actually get pretty good at this stuff.

Nebraska is in a world of shit. They need to do something quickly, or give Callahan an extension. If the uncertainty continues, this will certainly affect not only the '08 recruits, but also '09.
Sorry for your luck Huskers, but thanx for the Gray and Trev (gonna happen).

Another update Nebraska lost DJ Woods**** due to decommitment he is a speedy wide receiver who I think is a bit underrated.

Man this thing is snowballing like crazy.... this is like the people crowding onto helicopters in South Vietnam - I have never heard of so many de-committing SO fast. Not only that but this is almost all of their top players

Trev - **** OL
Jonas - **** RB
DJ - **** WR
Gabbert - ***** QB

Thats a serious offensive haul that went straight out the door. I know little to nothing about Nebraska but I feel for their fans. This is like our on-field performance except with recruits. Don't get me wrong if we get Jonas and Trev I will be ecstatic, but I'd much rather something like this happen to scUM.
