Hahaha alaska I was stuck on that little stat too, although I think he is great just where he is...maybe gaining some lbs in college.

While he doesn't look incredibly shifty in the video I saw, he sure has a great combo of speed/power. Not sure how good the competition is, but it seemed that once they got within the 10, no one wanted any part of trying to stop him.

Seems to me he is an all-purpose back, sort of the next link in the chain after Aldridge.

If I started telling they'd probably kill me. I can assure you though it's not all about me. I just got lucky and have a a bunch of people that are willing to share quality info with me.

ya I understand I mean during his interveiw he was really acting like he was going to at least have a period of time where he was not commited to us

Ah, now we have our anwser. During his Power Hour interview Jonas said that he had origially planned to pubically do it this Thurs when CB was at his school, but it just somehow leaked out. He said that he wasn't upset that it leaked out though, so everything is fine there.

At least he got to openly talk about it during his interview now

Hughes is a Tank and pure power IMO he's not a FB and he's not a true everydown type RB either. He's pure power and he's a RB that IMO is very similar to the way Bettis was used in the NFL.

Jonas Gray on the other IMO of course is more of a traditional everydown RB who's got more power than finesse but isn't that pure power guy like Hughes. Gray will run inside and out but make no mistake his bread and butter is staying within the tackles.

That's exactly what I was getting at.

where does this leave ND recruiting at RB??? would charlie go for one more?

I say stay "pat" with just Jonas. The Irish have a good stable of talented RB. Other needs to continue to fill first (another 1-2 OL and possibly another WR). Nice catch in landing Jonas! Oh how the sky is opening and sun is shining thru!!!

I have figured it out. CW and Co. have not been worrying about gameplans and the 2007 season. They have consnetrated on the recruiting class and making it as loaded as possible. Well looks like they have gotten that goal accomplished.

Isn't the bye week when most of the recruiting is done during the season? That means we have 2 big time commitments in 3 days. At that rate we should get 2-3 more by the end of the week.

"Calling" Jonas Gray's commitment isn't something spectacular. Gray notified the recruiting services over the weekend and asked them to wait until Tuesday to give the public the news. However, Rivals broke the news early against Gray's wishes.

If anything, this continues the trend of Rivals' Notre Dame staff leaking news early in order to scoop the other Irish recruiting news services.

He asked them to wait until Thursday, actually - I think he was going to make an announcement when (or after) Corwin visited his school. But apparently Gray wasn't upset by it.

[EDIT: See GG's post above. Should've quoted him. :)]

I have to believe that if Notre Dame can get Cyrus Gray, then they will take him. I know Jonas Gray's 40x is outstanding, but on film Cyrus looks much faster than Jonas and Cyrus is a legit track star.

I'd make a pundit remark and say Ryan Williams is out of the picture at this point, though.

Even if that is the case I doubt we would take another RB when we have two o-lineman in very good standing, a position where we truly need depth. My guess is we follow the 2-1-2-1 sort of pattern in terms of RB recruiting, making Jonas our only one of this class. The class can't expand too much, even with the transfers, if we are going to maintain balance.

The thing is, Cyrus is an ATHLETE. He plays QB, is being recruited at RB, but could probably also play WR or DB. He's a pure football player and Charlie has said again and again that he likes to recruit those types.

Ryan Williams is just a running back. Albeit, Ryan Williams appears to be a far more complete running back than Cyrus Gray or Jonas Gray. Williams' highlight tape just showcases the total package, which is probably why Charlie Weis was so big on him. The guy can flat out avoid tacklers and even catch the ball in stride. That spin move Ryan put on one of those kids while going full speed was just unreal.

But, again, Cyrus Gray seems just more versatile.

What you say is plausible. It could be that there is a spot open for Cyrus Gray, as opposed perhaps to Ryan Williams, because he can also play QB. But unlike Harper and Robinson, he hasn't been recruited at all at that position from what I've seen, so it would be a stretch. Based on what Weis has said about numbers, I think it's likely that if either Gray or Williams (though only one of the two, of course) decides that he wants to come to ND, he'll be accepted.

Hughes has some wiggle too... but I get your point.

Wow! just what I needed to get through today. Happy Hump Day!!!!

Too bad hump day doesn't mean what it used to. Last time I asked a girl to help me get through hump day I got slapped. When did they change the meaning? Shouldn't somebody have sent me a memo.

Sorry, back on topic!

There is no doubt in my mind that ND is out of the picture with Williams, I wish ND recruited RB's like USC and have that awesome stable.

As for Cyrus Gray I think Weis & Co. still take him. He's a very different runner, a dynamic player who's lightning quick and who's more of outside runner and IMO he would be a complement to Jonas and IMO thats important I want to see ND with different type RB's to keep opposing teams on there heals.
