Rockne, I usually really enjoy your posts and have always been one of your biggest defenders, but I think you need to calm down here.
I don't remember Weis BRAGGING about any "nasty" - just promising it - and I think that with time we'll start see more and more players who bring that attitude.
To some extent I think your post is a symptom of what happens when people get too excited about recruiting: we see what these kids are doing in high school and watch their highlight reels, and then expect them to come in and perform right away. But that's NOT the way it works - it takes a long time to build up the physical strength to play serious college ball, to hone one's skill set, and to get fully acquainted with the system one is playing in. There's no reason to expect kids to be able to play at a high level right out of high school, unless - as is the case with USC, for example - they're surrounded by a level of talent that enables them to just go do their thing and not worry about the details. Right now, though, that clearly isn't the case at ND - and a huge part of that has to do with Willingham's dreadful recruiting.
I agree, though, that the excuses are getting old. But so is impatience. Weis has shown, beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind, that he can win if he has talent on the field. Give these kids a chance to grow up.
