The GT Head Coach was on the local ESPN Radio station this morning on my dirve into work in Atlanta. The host of the radio station told Chan about facebook and Jones declaring himself the starter. He said he has been perparing for two types of quaterbacks. He seemed very confident in his defense. He talked very highly of Wheeler (who is a beast). He said they would try to establish the running game with Choice behind a very experienced offense line and take their shots down field against an unproven Irish defense.

This is a good GT football team. They have very few questions they main being QB and WR. Bennett has showed an accurate and strong arm in workouts.

I dont know how Gailey is having this success. When he was in Dallas, he was atrocious. The guy couldnt coach his way out of a cardboard box.

Chan Gailey is not alone in succeeding in college but failing in the pros. Other guys who fit this bill are Steve Spurrier, Pete Carroll, and some other guy who was a total flop with the New York Jets, but then won a NC at ND.

Exactly right. Carroll was DREADFUL with the Jets.

Don't Forget Chan has helped GT to 10 Bowl games..He was not there for all of that but he has kept that streak going..I think the guy before him was a pretty good coach, didn't he work at ND for a couple of days? lol

I think he was referring to Coach Holtz. Unless you were being facetious

Well he mentioned Carroll too, and he was also an awful Jets coach - right around when I started following the team, actually. (Boomer Esaison, anyone?) Holtz's period was a bit before my time.

To be fair most coaches started in college in some fashion. For example Parcell got his start at Army as a asisstant coach. Some guy's just can't coaching men ( Steve Spurrier). They rather be teachers of the game. Considering that G.Tech is a top academic school, I can see Gailey having problem getting top recruit.

I don't get where people are getting this from. Jones never declared himself the starter, it's just a bunch of people who are his "friends," mainly a lot of high schoolers who prolly get their info off of boards and blogs not so different from this, saying congrats. I'm not saying he's not the starter, I'm just saying people are reading way too much into this facebook stuff.

I think one reason that Chan Gailey has been doing so well is a guy named Calvin Johnson.... remember that beast of a WR who tore up defenses... i think it'd be pretty easy to do fairly well with a guy like that and a back like Tashard Choice.

I seriously doubt Jones declared himself the starter on facebook. In fact I think its pretty ridiculous. Weis won't say, but Jones is declaring on facebook? Go Irish!

That's not what was said. But lots of his friends posted things on his wall indicating that they believed him to be the starter. You can take that FWIW (not much, IMO), but the other rumors are pretty much lock-tight.

D-Jones is the starter, boys ...

i think it's going to be a competetive game to say the least.....both teams have talent, ND's is obviously unproven thus far.......but lets be honest here, it's not like GT is such a dominating force that can't be beat.....no matter what age, etc......a driving ambition to succeed is just that.......i think ND 31 - GT 24
