Moody transferring from Southern Cal

Interesting timing, considering that Moody is one of the regional covers of this week's SI CFB preview issue. I guess that's what happens when you have too much talent at one position.

From today's LA Times

Tailback Moody to transfer
The sophomore from Texas was the Trojans' second-leading rusher last season. But he said last week he felt 'forgotten' because of a number of injuries.

Tailback Emmanuel Moody, USC's second-leading rusher last season, will transfer to another school, several sources said Wednesday.

Moody is one of three USC tailbacks who appear on the regional cover of Sports Illustrated's college football preview edition. But amid continuing speculation that a 10-deep position group would cause one or more tailbacks to transfer, the sophomore from Texas was a no-show at practice and at evening team meetings.

Coach Pete Carroll declined to comment.

Moody could not be reached for comment, but he said last week that he "felt forgotten" coming into training camp because of an ankle injury that forced him to sit out the Trojans' last four games and a hamstring injury that caused him to sit out nearly all of spring practice.

Moody had looked good in the first week, but he suffered a knee bruise in Sunday's scrimmage at the Coliseum and did not practice Monday or Tuesday.

This could be the start of a beautiful thing. Recruits are going to see that they will not get on the field till their senior year, if lucky, and pick another school. Their stockpilling of talent might be coming to an end. Moody probably left b/c they did not pay him enough cash.

I don't know that their recruiting will slow down quite yet. But this injury hardly matters when you have that much depth at rb. They have more depth at that position that any other team in the country does for any other position.

I just got a teaser e-mail from II saying that Moody might be looking at ND - there seems to be discussion of it in 4HL. This is horseshit, right? Doesn't ND have a policy of not accepting transfers?

From a poster on GH:

The wire on II says ND, OU, OK St, and TAMU are his top choices as of today. Keys to his choice will be depth chart (gee, wonder why) and a legit shot at a NC.

Doesn't the coach also have some say as to where the athlete is transferring too as well?

No, it just doesn't happen very often. They actually have one on the team right now. Bemfender(sp?) transfered to ND from Northwestern. And I guess if you really think about it what better way to stick it to USC than by torching them as a part of ND.

Has there ever been a player that transfered from Sc to ND? I can't think of any!

The backfield is pretty full here. Most of which are young. I do not think we want him.

Yeah, but as much as we like ND's youg RBs they really haven't proven anything yet, and Moody was playing very well and seeing significant PT last year untill he got hurt. If he has the grades to get in and he wants to come I would take him.

Take him just to spite scum

Don't think we pay our players enough to tempt him. ;)

On a serious note, the reason he lost visibility on SC was his injuries. Maybe he's just had a string of bad luck, but maybe his injuries will continue to give him trouble. I don't think we have enough scholarships to spare one on him, good as he can be.

How can the former coach control where a transfer goes?

My guess is the player has to ask to be released from his existing scholarship agreement. There's probably an NCAA rule about it; the NCAA has rules about everything.

Since they are contractually bound by the scool they must obtain the coaches's permission to transfer to a piticular school. If they don't they can still go to any school they want but they must sit out two years rather than one.

Moody?

Moody?

I realize this has been brought up over at DD, but it is interesting. I know he is from our main rival, and possible most hated team. But he is a good RB, and he has interest in us? Not sure, but on rivals, it has a teaser about us possibly interested in him. Anyone know anything at this point. And, I would really hate to see him to go Florida.

No chance ND is interested in him. Rivals like to post absurd headlines to get subscribers.

I wouldn't want him anyway. We got many nasty RB's already and he would struggle for playing time let alone sit out a year. I'd rather build by not taking other teams scraps. Bemerdofer left NW to pursue his dream at ND without a schollie, which he will likely earn by the end of the season. There are always the exceptions, Moody isn't one of them.

That's right, IK - Bemenderfer is a walk-on right now, living out a dream in the face of a lot of uncertainty. Moody would want a scholarship guaranteed up-front, and I'll bet my ass that there's NO chance it'll be offered to him.

If he can't make it at USC, I don't want him...but I wish him the very best in finding a school that can use him.

Heck, he should hook up with Frazier at UConn.

I know it sounds a bit crazy, but if UConn picked up all the 4-star cast offs, they would have one helluva good team.

Moody considering Gators, Tar Heels as transfer choices

Former USC running back Emmanuel Moody said Friday that he has narrowed his transfer choices to Florida and North Carolina.

Moody, the second-leading rusher on USC last season, had also considered Texas and Oklahoma State.

Moody, who rushed for 459 yards and two touchdowns, averaging a team-high 5.8 yards per rush last season, left USC because of the school's depth at his position, citing a "business decision."

At USC, running back Chauncey Washington's status for the season opener is in question because of a shoulder sprain. Sophomore Stafon Johnson and true freshman Joe McKnight are among those also competing for the job.
