Nice post, IK - thanks for the info. So much for the "let's use up all the available scholarships and send the fifth-years packing" strategy, eh?

----Yes we were in the minority of not getting too caught up in recruiting.

Seroiously? I'm pretty suprised if thats true. Go irish!

See above ...

Staff told him to wait. Surprised? I was.

... and the posts that follow. Unfortunately there aren't many details available right now, but it does indeed seem to be a "numbers" issue. I feel bad for the kid, but that's the way it goes.

UPDATE: I'm an idiot.

The staff in no way, shape or form asked Jeremy "Not" to come...PERIOD. Come on guys, unless you have cold hard facts, let's not throw any old theory out there just to see what sticks.

My apologies; I was unaware that this was still speculative. I take back my silly attempts to feign at being in the know.

From Scooper, on GH:

The staff did NOT tell Brown not to come. And if they did, that would be awful Urban Meyer of them. Let's not spread that kind of crap about our staff. Brown has an offer. If he wanted to jump on board today, he could. ND doesn't recruit that way.

Keep in mind he had bought a plane ticket. It would be in no way ethical for the staff to ask him to eat that ticket. Trust me...that's not what happened.

This was a Brown family decision, not a Notre Dame decision. Reading between the lines, Brown is still interested in ND, but is not the lock we thought he was. I would not be surprised to see him end up closer to home.

Sounds reasonable to me. Anyone else got thoughts on this?

From what I've heard Scooper is pretty much dead on there, and just to add a little bit more to that, Jeremy has apparently been getting a lot of pressure to go to school closer to home and ND understood his descion to wait and in return the Brown family thanked ND for their understanding and patience.

Pressure from who? Why do people care so much what Joe Shmo wants them to go? His dad was on the ND bandwagon so he's obviously listening to just the crazy locals.

I think it was a collection of family and friends, but I'm not sure about that.

im sure some people have stated to mention it, but i believe we lost jbrown. only jbrown and CW know the real story of what happened this weekend, but im pretty sure if he really wanted to attend ND and be a part of the irish, he would have been there this past week and we would have heard a commit from him. its tough to get kids to leave the state of florida. the climate is great, they have "great" football programs in state they can attend, and most of the time they don't need to go to class. its not the end the of the world that we didnt pick him up, we have floyd, baldwin, robinson, and a couple others to get excited about. lets move on. go irish!

Guys, shit happens. We have no idea why he didn't make it to South Bend this weekend, but we don't need to freak out and decide that it means that we told him to get f'd or that he is telling us the same thing. He still may end up Irish, we will just have to wait and see.

Agreed. If we did lose him then oh well. We have a dynamic class as is and I would only hope the best for him. We will pick up more studs in the near future.

Yeah, worse things have happened, we still have a shot at some good athletes if he ends up staying in Florida.

Brown's not a need. He's better at DB than WR, and we're done at DB. The only way he comes is as a WR and there are a lot of guys ahead of him that we are heavily in the mix with at the moment. It's clear why the situation played out like this.

He still could have come and commited if he wanted to. It was his choice not to come, not the ND coaching staff.

----People have told me that have premium to other places that Jeremy was told to hold off on his visit by Weis. Where did you hear that Jeremy did in fact cancel it because family pressure?

I read on GH that Sabino was told that he was the last defensive recruit on the board. If true, that means that either (1) Brown is no longer being recruited; or (2) Brown is being recruited as a WR.

If he is being recruiting as a WR, I wonder if the staff wants to see the Butler/Floyd/Baldwin/Walker saga play itself out before allowing Brown to visit and/or commit? It kind of makes sense given the fact that each of those recruits have to be higher on ND's wishlist than Brown (at least at the WR spot).

I'm not sure if it was family, friends, or some sort of mix, but somehow the info made it's way to R.J.'s step dad. I'm not sure If E-Man found out about it from the ND coaches, or Jeremy told R.J. , because I know that R.J. has been talking to some of ND's southern recruits. Either way E-Man got fed up with all the incorrect reports/posts and posted a long story about it to set everyone straight.

Jeremy Brown has made it official from his end. He is no longer considering ND because South Bend is too far from his family. His final four are UNC, Georgia, Auburn, and of course the Gators.

Ok, now that this is officially over, Jeremy is probably trying to save a little face, which is fine, and he did it the correct way, no ND bashing on his part. So let's reciprocate by having no bashing of him at this end. By all accounts Jeremy is a great kid, this is no loud mouthed Flying Burritto.

According to a poster on GH, Jeremy says in a Scout interview that ND is still in his top five. Not sure if there's anything much to be made of this, but ...

Jeremy Brown

Brown is betting his future on how far the school he selects is from his home. Now, if that is the level of his intelligence, ND is better off without him. He brags about the facilities, coaches, and "academics" at Florida. Since he cancelled his trip to ND, what is the basis for comparison. He may want to take a look at how many football players at each of the schools he's considering actually graduate with a meaningful degree before he talks academics.
