We're coming into the final week of the Tour. Tomorrow's time trial should be a good watch; it should shake up the rankings and separate the contenders from the pretenders. Will Rasmussen make it through a TT without cracking? Is Levi for real? And what of the crazy Kazakh? If his teammate Kloden beats him, will he relinquish his captaincy?

Anyone see one of the cyclists crash into that dog? Bent the front tire and the biker totally biffed it. Dog just got up and walked away. (Golden Retriever) It was funny.

It was very funny, but it looked more like a Golden Lab.

they need to make it more interesting. for instance, giving the cyclists clubs or swords.

That sounds kind of like that old school video game called Road Rash for Sega. I think they may have made it for the Super NES too.

These guys in the tour are seriously revealing their souls. They can't hide feelings or expressions under a helmet. Never realized that cycling had so much strategy and tactics involved.

I hate road rash too.

If its not an american who cares

The dog's fine :). Collision looked worse than it was b/c the rider had a very flimsy carbon fiber wheel that bent in half on impact.

There's an American ranked fifth who supposedly plans to reveal his cards in the Pyrenees, Levi Leipheimer. He had a decent though not spectacular time trial today, although he moved up more due to the poor performance of a couple of Spanish GC contenders.

Potown you are right that the race is much about tactics. It's like a chess match, the Superbowl, and 21 marathons all together.

Edited to add: BTW if you want to see a funny commercial, watch the promo where they try to find common ground among cycling, cage fighting, and rodeo. Just imagine the advertisers trying to figure out how to tie American stetson-wearing cowboys and muscle-bound meatheads together with skinny Eurotrash types who wear spandex. The only common ground is the blood, so you see lots of cycling crashes.

Yeah, like play a sport that doesn't penalize cheats.

Yup, Rasmussen was thrown off his team today for lying about his whereabouts during June. Said he was in Mexico but he was really in Italy. His stories have been a little shady for a while now.

Riders have to provide written schedules of where they are 24/7/365 so they can be available for random doping tests. Rasmussen not only failed to turn in paperwork on several occasions, he is very cagey about where he trains and tends to train in neutral colors rather than his team uniform. And right now they are testing the shit out of all these guys. Christian Vande Velde describes his doping test schedule:

"But the controls are working and there are many. I have been controlled on 13 different occasions this year from our team alone. They look for everything from blood transfusions, EPO, testosterone, HGH, reticulocytes... you name it. Then on top of that I have been controlled at races randomly a few times and by USADA at least three times at my home. That brings me up to about 20 times this year, so I have given my fair share of bodily fluid for the sport."

what are your thoughts on last years winner? his name eludes me right now. i just dont think you can trust the french, with all the stuff you heard about their hatred towards Lance and how he dominated the sport
