I don't have access, but I've read that there are some Filer to OSU implications, but not from him directly. Hopefully, Yahoo! will publish the article for free soon.
I have been receiving conflicting reports on Hale's 'package' deal with Saddler. Additionally, the Brew Crew has quoted us as going hard after 10 recruits, and while Filer and Sabino are on it, Hale is not. I have no idea what to make of these. Completely  Guess that's what recruiting's all about... :krazy:

If things go well with the remaining blue chippers, this has the potential to be the best ND recruiting class ever, IMO.

Not quite. Here's a run-down of NDs top classes since the recruiting services started tracking these things. Hard to believe that Faust had a class with 13 Parade All-Americans. 13 out of the top 61 players in the country. What a waste that was.

BlueandGold.com // Notre Dame's No. 1 Classes

Still the best class in probably 20+ years.

Guys,
Let's celebrate who we already have and hope that we will continue the momentum into the fall. As we have all seen from the current commits, Charlie and the staff are doing all that they can to attract top talent and great young men. Like many of you, I am hopeful that we land the likes of Filer and Floyd, but do not get all bent out of shape if they choose another school. They are under immense pressure and they have to make a huge decision based on very bias information from all sources. I am sure every coach is bending the reality to his advantage. If these young men look deep into all that ND has to offer beyond athletics, we have a great chance. I wish them the best as they make a very difficult decion.

Man, Faust must've been a hell of a recruiter. He is passionate about ND, which is why he was the special guest at teh luncheon last December.

Don't forget that most of those guys were little kids during the Ara, and Devine eras, and grew up on stories of ND football. When that's the case it makes it a little easier to recruit top talent.

not to mention the early 80's was still pre-super conferences. there were numerous independent teams and most recruiting truly was regional. notre dame was the only national draw, which meant some pretty impressive recruiting hauls. temper that though with the fact that analysis of high school players was still in the infancy stages so being named to high school all-american teams was as much about who you knew as your ability. definitely a different era. although, i must say that even though i am a season ticket holder, i'm happy to see the irish schedule a game at a neutral site in upcoming seasons. i hope it will continue to add to the national appeal of the school which allowed for some of those amazing recruiting classes. let's hope mr. filer is a part of this next class. :dogpile:

Knute, Thanks for the link to the b&g article. Great Info. I can't believe what a terrible coach faust. I remember the watching those games when I was young, but I always thought talent had something to do with it, now it seems more incompetence than anything.

Faust recruited a classmate of mine, but pulled his offer two weeks before signing day, and would not give him a reason. He was a decent player, went to Vanderbilt, became all SEC and went to 3 superbowls. Will Wolford. He still has some bitterness for ND which I hear on his local radio show occassionally..

That's dick style. I don't see anything like that happening with this coaching staff.

I WANT FILER really bad. I think this might come down an ND scUM battle which we have the upper hand over scUM because we have taken almost everyone they wanted. But I look for him to commit in January or February. Charlie has to get work on him I'm sure he has a spot for him that is his for the taken.

Irishknight, I think I've indicated this before, but while you're a great poster and you bring alot to the board, you can really be a dick sometimes. No reason to be nasty, man.

------I'm no dick, but no offense you are wayyyy to sensative. I can't say anything without you jumping down my throat. I said the guy must've been under a rock to miss all the news on Filer I didn't say he was a moron or anything. I just think you need to chill and stop being everyones lawyer. Lets just leave it there...

whether Filer chooses ND or Ohio State, there is really nothing negative you can say about the guy and the way he has handled the process. he obviously wants to be sure about where he wants to go. some people dislike that he has been so quiet, but IMO it is refreshing in contrast to those guys who say they love every school they visit and string schools along. I'll be a fan no matter where he goes, but hopefully for us, it is ND.

Steve should be arriving at campus sometime around noon later today. Last I heard he was planning on spending the rest of the day at ND, then he was going to spend the night here, which would most likely be with some of the players, and then part of the day tomorrow.

Whatever dude. It's not about me being "sensative", it's that your apparent need to make yourself feel tough by talking big doesn't do much to build up the environment around here. The guy said what he thought, he was wrong (I certainly hadn't been "under a rock", but I also wasn't on top of all the latest news), and you could have told him that in a more pleasant way. I think J-Pham said a similar thing about some of your remarks in the Floyd thread, so it might actually be worth taking this advice into consideration. It's not about lawyering or trying to set up rules (those only apply to bashing /recruits/), but just to encourage people to be friggin' NICE to each other, and not to discourage the non-experts among us from asking questions and offering their opinions.

Perhaps what I'm really after is this: Notre Dame is a Catholic school, and this is a Notre Dame board, so we should try to use some minimal degree of Christian charity in dealing with each other. (This is what I forgot when I turned into a stupid prick in that argument with "son of rook" over whether we should be keeping fifth-year seniors.) Sorry if that view seems somehow reactionary, but I'm sure I'm not the only poster here who feels that way.

This is the most polite argument ever. :argue:
I don't even know if argument is the correct term. Maybe "difference of opinion" or "friendly banter" would be better terms. C'mon, somebody pull some hair or something. :cannibal:
