Well the writing is on the wall with Goebel basically.....

From BP:
Garrett is spending plenty of time with Stoney and Sweat while his father is also talking tOSU with Sweat's father. Also, BK says ND is ready to concede Garrett to tOSU so as to pursue other targets.

--------Ethan Johnson, come on down!

---------I know I'm asking a question to my post haha, but does that above stated about ND ready to concede Goebel to OSU to pursue other targets mean we cooled on him because of the Omar commitment or because it's a foregone conclusion that he'll be Buckeye?

I don't think the Hunter commitment would have much to do with it simply because he's a NT in your scheme IIRC, while Garrett would be a DE, so I don't think they're connected. I think it's that Garrett is likely going to Ohio State and the coaches are conceding him. I know we did the same thing with Rudolph when it became obvious he was going to the darkside(no offense :p ).

-------Alright, I figured it was because he liked it there better, but I was just making sure because of the way it sounded.

I know Garrett has been by far our number one defensive tackle prospect. I'm hoping he chooses us. Considering the haul you guys are bringing in, I doubt you'll be too bummed to lose this one.

I think it's just a comfort thing and that he's been our only true DT target. He's been shown a lot of love by the staff, and it appears to be paying off.

How do you guys stand for that Oregon DE? Seems like he would be perfect to round out your dline class(he's probably a better fit than Garrett since he appears to be more of a natural DE with the size to adapt to the 3-4),

A pretty good chance. It seems to be ND/USC out in front without an ND visit yet, but he will this summer. I think he's going to take all of his officials though so it'll be a while.

I actually think the Hunter verbal is a part of it, but not because of scheme. I think it was just #'s and timing.

The coaching staff needed to come away with 4 DLineman this year, no matter what. When we were sitting at 2, and after Newman 3 lineman, we were willing to take pretty much anyone with an offer. And on paper, Goebel looked like ND's best chance at being an Irish offer (Catholic HS, Illinois product, visited the school on more than one occasion).

However, when Hunter verballed, it allowed ND to get more picky, and changed the name of the game. Getting a 5th DL commit might mean no 3rd DB, or no 5th LB, or might even suck away a scholarship from an offensive position. A.k.a, that 5th DLineman needs to be someone this staff sees as a "home run".

While the Irish went hard after Goebel, he still only got an offer by the 3rd week in April - about two months after OSU. He was the 9th of 9 DL offers, so its not like we know he was ND's top priority based on that. Coulda been admissions issues with his test scores, but it could just be that he wasn't the apple of Charlie & Co's eye. Who knows.

I think that Hunter committing when he did only made it that much easier of a decision for Charlie & Co. to put their eggs in baskets like Ethan Johnson's, and Kapron Lewis-Moore's. We already knew we were a bit behind with Goebel, so with the #'s game in mind it makes it a much easier decision to bow out. Either way, OSU (unless there is an unforeseen shocker at his visit to Ann Arbor) is getting a heck of a football player. He's a real smart player, who obviously knows leverage, and IMO can step in and play from day one.

Goebel has slimmed the Irish out of his list

------I bet it was because we cooled alot on him and told him now that Omar committed that we're going after Ethan Johnson and the big dogs. Just like Beal I think we just stopped recruiting them once we reached a point where we had 1 spot left at that position for the elite.

i would say slight, I'd be shocked if he were to choose anyone but osu, they have been if not the first, one of the very first teams on him. ND was on him too late and it cost them, but oh well.

He'll be a good one, but just because Pocic took to the Zooker Kool-Aid doesn't mean his good friend will too. Too much is made of the Packaged deal these days.

If I were to bet on it, I would say he is a bucknut.

I'll gladly take EJ instead but Goebel will be a real good player. I was hoping this is how it would turn out.

---Ah yes the generational gap. Jefferson Airplane? I heard of them, but come on. When I was born Guns N' Roses were in their prime...

Good heavens...You're just a baby then. I was born in 1973 so you're gonna have to elaborate...Put your best ebonics team on it and get back to me...

I'm hearing that Michigan might have overtaken O$U as Goebel's new current favorite.

I really hope not. I used to respect Michigan much more than I do now, but after dealing with their fanbase, they are quite possibly the worst fans to try to have a rational discussion with. I venture over to Stadium and Main on the Scout. every once in a while, and about 98% or fans have nothing to do but piss and moan about ND. I know that our fans are sometimes no better or even worse, but by andl large, they piss me off more than any other fan base.

That's only because Goebel's dad is pushing him towards Meatchicken. I mean its obvious; everyone on the OSU board has been talking about it for, like, weeks, so it must be true. Why don't you people just accept it?

They are pretty bad, but most of the time they keep to their own bord so they're easier to deal with than the overwellming amount of O$U flamers that I saw on ND's public boards last year, and the Rivals national board.

I agree. They are the most annoying fanbase I've seen. Everytime they lose a recruit they make excuses as to why or why they didn't want him anyway. I can't stand them.

He's OSU's top priority on the d-line. Would be surprising if they lost out on him.

I still think he ends up at OSU

Ditto. I have some reservations on that front, but ditto.

GG - I had actually heard that his dear old Dad was very much pro Buckeye. If you really want to compare "sources" and stories (the one source I'll ever have most likely) just PM me.
