Rivals is reporting that Chancey Aghayere has received an Official Offer from Notre Dame. If this offer is confirmed Aghayere becomes the 7th 2008 Texas High School recruit to receive an offer from ND. Dan Buckner has committed to Texas, and Stephen Good has committed to Oklahoma. Of the 5 uncommitted, only Aghayere currently claims to have an offer from both Texas and ND. This will be another tough head to head battle with Texas for the Irish as Aghayere currently lists the Longhorns as his favorite, and he was a big Gator fan growing up. Notre Dame’s recent offer puts the Irish in the #4 spot on Aghayere’s current favorites behind Texas, Oklahoma, and Florida.

The offer to Aghayere has been confirmed by B&G, so Chancey becomes the 48th member of the 2008 Irish Envy Official Offer List.

According to Scout, Chancey Aghayere is focusing on five schools and while it's pay info there free database has ND as 1 of the 5.

With that speed would he be an OLB? 4.7 sounds like the perfect strong side OLB, although I'm sure he could bulk up and play DE, what's the plan for him, anyone know?

In the 4-3 he's without a doubt a DE but in the 3-4 who knows at this time because these database's aren't very acurate, I've seen guys listed 210 when they 260+.

Aghayere is also planning on taking an Official Visit to ND in September, and has said he will make his announcement in late September. Texas appears to be still his favorite, and he may want to take advantage of Official Visits before making that choice, but there is always some hope if you can get him on the ND campus, especially in September.

Chancey was visited by CW on Wednesday. He still lists ND as one of his now 6 top choices, along with Texas, Florida, LSU, Louisville and Oklahoma. The staff is still trying to get him to make an Official Visit before he makes his announcement, which is now set for his birthday on September 17, which also means the only visit option is for GA Tech on 9/1. It appears that this already long shot is now even longer.

I would have to say UT is definitely in the lead here but if he takes his official as planned, we will at least have a chance

There is always a chance if you get him on campus, and that looks to be a definite in Chancey's case. ND is solidly in his last 6 schools, but the general feeling is that ND is in a pack with the 4 other schools on his list, all behind Texas. A trip to South Bend in September could change his mind. What concerns me is the timing. If he is adamant about announcing on his birthday (Sept. 17) that means he would have to take his Official at the GA Tech game. Although I am confident that ND will win that game, it will be the first game for the 3-4, and possibly JC, so it could be a bumpy ride. Also, it will be a two full weeks thereafter when he makes his decision. I would feel better about ND's chances if he were making the decision right after a September visit, and who knows, maybe he will have to change his schedule and his announcement date in order to take all of the Official Visits he wants to.

He mentioned playing time as a source of concern. Texas... well, they always get theirs. To be frank, since Abiamiri, when has ND gotten theirs at DE?

Point being, when he sees ND's depth chart, and notices two 5th year seniors camped out atop the DE spot, he's gotta think PT will be available. The guys there look good for the most part, but none of them are pre-destined for greatness.

But it would be a very, very tough sell. I'm just saying we've already got 1 angle to work with here.

he was named a five star prospect by rivals today and is listed as the #21 player in the country.

I know we have to take what recruits say about the importance of academics with a grain of salt, but according to rivals Chancey has said a school's graduation rate will be important in his decision. Unless he was unaware of the University of Texas' graduation rate woes, that has to make you wonder how excited he could be about Texas.

Florida on Sept 07

If that is the case he will not be making an Official to ND before his projected announcement date of September 17, as the only ND home game before then is Georgia Tech on 9/1. Hopefully, the 9/17 date is not written in stone because the consensus opinion seems to be that ND needs to get Chancey on campus to have any kind of shot here.

IUB I think I read something today that said he wants to decide "around" his B-day so It's still up in the air. Until he officially says the date of his visit with ND it's all speculation.

Yea, I just read somewhere that he is now also planning on making all five of his Official Visits to his five top schools (which includes ND) so if that is the case, there is no way he will be making his announcement on 9/17, unless he plans on taking Official Visits after his announcement, which is unlikely. Looks more like the middle of October before he decides and looks like it is pretty certain that ND gets him on campus.

As I said before, that's all you can ask for in this case, and is a pretty impressive piece of recruiting in and of itself, just to get a 5 star kid from Texas to make an official visit to South Bend. It's especially true if the rumors are correct that both of Chancey's parents are Longhorns. I have only seen that info posted on message boards, never in any bio info on Aghayere, so I do not know whether that is true.

There is an unconfirmed rumor going around that Agahayere has changed his Official Visit plans and reduced his list to 3 schools, Texas, Oklahoma, and ND. Presumably, if this is true, that would hopefully eliminate Florida as an Official Visit school, and would also surprisingly eliminate LSU. However, as long as Texas is on his list, ND would seem to remain a long shot.

Of course, there was a recent recruit who was also thought to be a long shot for the Irish who seems to have drastically changed his mind after a visit to the ND campus. Can't recall his name right now, can anybody jog my memory.

I guess the point is that this year with the dynamic duo of CW/CB, it seems like anything might be possible as long as you can get them on campus, and Aghayere is still supposed to be taking an Official to ND. I will also be looking for some confirmation that he indeed has cut his list down to three.

The unconfirmed rumor was false. ND is not in Chancey's Top 3. They are as many thought, Texas, Florida, and LSU. ND & Louisviile are in his Top 5, but mostly as afterthoughts, probably wants 5 hats on the table when he announces. He is now saying he might visit ND if his schedule allows. BYE BYE.
