LOL- Probably will be or close to it, until he starts taking the heat from some of his other "sponsors" and they mysteriously lose their clout as the recruiting season moves on. Lemming usually doesn't even know who is in his Top 100 anyway, someone else must do the actual work for him. I'll never forget the day after ND was Trattou'ed that Lemming told the SBT that JT was ND's best defensive recruit on his board. Almost hilarious since at the time ND had 4 D recruits in Lemming's Top 100, and the Jersey kid was not one of them. Ah, what the hell maybe he was hungover or he was a secret participant at the Jersey group hug/lovefest the night before.

.........Fast foward to 39:30 and it's an interview with Omar. The guy hosting is not a very good host, but an interview is an interview. He was told he is being looked at as nose by Corwin, but said he definently can play DE which means he'll be playing NT haha. He never even met Darius so that obviously had no impact on his decision. Omar snuck in a nice "GO IRISH" while getting cut off. On the same program they have interviews with Paskorz and Nagel.

The rankings are a rough guide that is better than nothing. That said, I could care less if a COMMITTED recruit changes "stars" after they have committed. What does it matter then anyway?

Just to put my 2 cents in, I enjoy looking at the rankings because it's part of the "competitive nature" I have and my pride in ND. Obviously we can't watch tape on every recruit and we don't get to see all the camps or games that the services do and we certainly don't get to speak with CW or the ND recruiting staff and get their thoughts on so and so prospect, so we have to rely on the different recruiting services for their opinions since we don't have the information they do to form as clear a picture.

The rankings help to give us a better picture of where we stand and what we can expect from the ND football team in the next few years. Everyone talks about ND lacking in talent as compared to USC or FL and so on and it's good to see we are DEFINITELY closing the talent gap. It's a numbers world and everyone wants to be at the top and other recruits wants to see how well our team is recruiting so that they will want to join as well. Like Arthur Brown said, he wants to go to a school with guys who have talent. Simply put, the rankings matter to the recruits themselves.

The rankings are fun to talk about during the slow months once the season is over and there isn't much else to talk about, but I do admit that we sometimes go overboard on it a little bit, I am guilty of that for sure, but it's all in good fun and it's great to see ND do so well these past couple of years so as a fan of ND, I am very excited for what the future has in store for us!!!

In my opinion, they use the "*" ranking system to entice losers like us to sit here and debate. And we do it. Maybe they should use footballs instead of stars....thoughts?

..and for what it's worth, I am very happy with the verbals for 2008 but unfortunately think that we're going to feel some growing pains this season.

Observaytions of Omar

1. Has Linebacker Feet moves very well for a 6-2 300lb

2. Will wreck havoc in the backfield

3. Motor goes "ALL DAY"

4. Who cares about the star system from the film I saw I don't care if he's a 3*. He's got that talent you look for in a stud hoss d lineman. Along with Newman as well. I really don't want Forston now I satisfied with these 2 bulls we got.

5. Hard Nosed we haven't had that in a NT since Zorich those were the days!!!!

I can't wait to see him in the Blue and Gold. I would like to call this d line class

I would agree with that. But stars with him don't matter he's got the talent to be a GOOD ONE.

The only excuse for Georgia would be if they had space for just one DT, and put their eggs in the DeAngelo Tyson basket. As for Georgia Tech... I'm scratching my head on that one too. Either their #'s game picked a real bad time to squeeze out a national prospect like Hunter, or they were asleep at the wheel on that one.

But hey, I'm not complaining at all! Hunter is a dynamite prospect, who is probably our biggest recruiting snare on DL since Victor Abiamiri. I can't say enough about him - even if he's not on the tip of every recruiting pay service pundit's tongue, he's an ideal fit for our scheme.

Yeah, but a lot of their success is attributed to their defensive scheme and Jon Tenuta. Their best defensive player, Kenny Scott, didn't even get drafted. The only other guy on their team that I could name is LB Phillip Wheeler so it is not like they are doing this with great talented players.

In the end who cares. Omar is a beast and the best DT/NT I think we have gotten in a LONG time.

First of all, GT returns a lot of their defense. You'll see more of these guys in the NFL eventually.

Second, my statement was that we shouldn't question their preferences for defensive talent. Meaning-they know what fits their scheme and their players in their scheme work. It works better than most of the defenses in the country.

The original implication was that there may be something wrong if he was not offered by UGA or GT. My answer was simply to imply that GT is not a good indicator because he simply may not fit their scheme. And seeing as how their scheme works very well, I'm not going to question them on that decision.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of them were just verbal offers, but that'd mean that 72 coaching staffs saw his film and thought highly enough of him to at least give him a jingle at some point, or make an effort through mailings. No matter how you look at it, its impressive, and makes me glad to say that he's narrowed it down to 1.

I actually think it was South Carolina. He's probably more familiar with the SEC/ACC lingo than the national jargin, given his residence in Georgia. Maybe I'm wrong, but I know Kenneth Page has referred to South Carolina as USC as well.

But the one story gave his list of top offers as "Michigan, Florida, and USC". I just don't know why South Carolina would trump Notre Dame and Oklahoma offers. Either way, I don't need Pete Carroll to tell me who is a top d-lineman. This guy should be a 5-star recruit and he's going to be a great one.
