And even when a kid states he has a specific academic plan, that can easily change. When I was in HS, I went into my junior year thinking I wanted to go into radio broadcast. I ended my senior year on a career path towards being a high school teacher.

Amen, GD3. I left highschool with exactly the same plans (radio broadcasting), and ended up going into PHILOSOPHY, for heaven's sake.

Katz, I repped you for a fantasic post. I re-read Ron's post and I still don't get it. ND's educations if great and highly recognized, but it's not for everyone.

I wasn't referring to beal or any other individual exactly...I was referring to recruiting as a whole...I am only a sophmore in this recruiting saga, last year was my first taste of recruiting via internet sites so I am most definitely a rookie...some of you are vets and understand the way its run and regulated...I had no idea how nasty it can get...what I was impliying (could use a grammatical editor) was it seems to me some of these young men are being used by the very adults that should be watching over them...while yet another group seems to use My beloved Notre Dame to advance themselves in the recruiting process with other schools. Last year several individuals did everything minus getting into bed with us (so to speak) to appearently get offers from other schools that they preffered...they never had any intention of coming on board in the first place...I prefer to just deal with college football from aug-jan but since I am following this recruiting thing now I simply wanted to add my 2 cents in...No....I don't live my life through recruiting but I do get frustrated when we don't get a young man that very well could be one of the players that could take us over the top and what makes it worse is when it appears as though they have played a very back handed game the whole time... I also do have a problem with political correctness, when did it become more important to be pc over telling it like it truly is... I hope this makes sense to some one out there

Ron, that makes a lot more sense and is a lot more readable and I agree, some kids use ND for their own game. In fact Ben Habern admitted to as much so he played the Irish along in hopes of getting an offer to up his profile. It's pretty sad when a kid needs something like that to feed his ego. Recruiting can be a very misleading world (like G Little) and can definitely be disappointing (like Benn), but I do like the way CW runs the ship here at ND and I like his new policies and I hope they work better to police potential problems like we had last year.

He decided ND wasn't for him, despite it's strong academic reputation. DEAL WITH IT.

Um, he actually did but he backed out of his "silent verbal" along with B. Martin, and C.Donald (Donald gave one to UT though too)

While I encourage well thought out disagreements guys, lets not start a witch hunt and go overboard in calling out other posters, especially in recruiting profiles.

:offtopic:

GG, I was unaware that B Martin and C Donald had silently committed to ND. I had heard they were Irish leans but I did not know they had actually told CW they were coming. That's surprising and very sad they didn't follow through. We would have had a top 5 class if they had :(

Oh the what if's but if they didn't feel ND wasn't the place for them, then it's probably better they are not here.

I can feel with you guys on this as well. Ben Martin also supposedly gave the dreaded silent verbal to Ohio State. You're also all probably familiar with the Barksdale saga as well, but yeah, I think getting the most talented isn't always the most important aspect. You want to get kids that want to be there and want to work hard there. You don't want kids that feel entitled to anything(not saying this was the case with any recruits mentioned by me or anyone else, it's just a general statement) or simply don't mesh with the makeup of the team the coach is trying to build.

Yeah ND got one from him too, although I heard O$U got 2 from him so I guess they won the University of LSU contest.

Martin, Edwards, and Donald all bolted after the Sugar Bowl as well as Trattou. Then there was the Benn saga, and the two Little's right before NSD.

According to Rivals, Florida and Southern Cal lead, and he has low interest in ND. I think that we can officially cross this guy off the list.

This is nothing new, it's just OSU repeating something that Beal mentioned a few weeks ago. However, the ND interest is even lower than it was then, what was the line, ND is still kind of in there or something. Almost like an afterthought.

Scout.com: Total Package

Beal, ranked No. 11 in the East by Scout.com, said he favors USC slightly over Boston College, Ohio State, Florida, LSU and Miami. All of his favorites have offered

----------Did we stop recruiting him all together to be left out completely behind LSU and Miami? It's a little hard to beleive after he said "You're the one i've been waiting for" about his ND offer and then leaves us out completely. I've known for about a month now he's starting leaving us out completely do you think our coaches have just stopped calling him and just spent all their focus on Sabino or Filer for that final LB spot?

He's always said glowing things about all the schools recruiting him, so the ND comment in actuality isn't all that impressive, oddly enough.

I've gotten the same "dead end" impression with Beal as well. Sabino was a name that came onto ND's very quickly - I think the first time I heard of him was when he got the offer - but it has definitely stayed there. And when the Beal offer was extended, there was one or two weeks where things sounded great, and then the news went down a slippery slope from there.

I think the pearl of ND's eye at this point is definitely Sabino, then Filer, then a hodge podge of backup plans I can only speculate on (Will Compton, balls to the wall for Arthur Brown, a prospect TBD, etc). Beal isn't amongst those plans, unless Weis has a flashback to Brian Cushing while tossing and turning at night, and flies out to New Jersey begging for Beal to go to South Bend - aka, not gonna happen.

Mike Frank isn't a bullet proof analyst, but he does know a thing or two, and he's been saying the Beal door is essentially shut - virtually zero dialogue from either side of the recruiting process. So IK, I think your guesstimate is right.

In a word, YES.

As soon as somebody states that the unholy triumvirate is his Top 3 schools, why bother. Anyone who has all three of those schools as his favorites could never really be interested in ND. It just took Beal awhile to go on the record, once he did, it was all over.

Even though Beal is one of my least favorite (Putting it nicely) recruits this year. He has official trimmed his list to BC, USC, and UF. No suprise, he'll end up at USC unless a miracle happens.

What?! You mean he's going to turn down the Ivy League of the south?!

Beal will be verbally committing on tonight's Generation Next. His finalists are Florida, LSU, BC, and USC.

I'm pretty sure he's going to pick LSU tonight. You know, because they have such great academics.

The University of LSU has frequently been called the Harvard of Louisiana (up there with Baton Rouge College Prep - coined the Yale of Louisiana).

Has anyone heard about the Miami Dolphins linebacker quoted as saying, "I don't even know where London is, I didn't even know that they speak english in London"... I believe he either went to Miami, FSU, or Florida...but that just shows you how uneducated some of these athletes are.

Yeah, most people don't realize he was joking though. I'll go find the full story.

Dolphins LB Channing Crowder, who appears likely to start in the middle Sunday against the Giants with Zach Thomas ailing, says he didn't know until Tuesday that people in London speak English.
"I couldn’t find London on a map if they didn’t have the names of the countries," he said. "I swear to God. I don’t know what nothing is. I know Italy looks like a boot. I know London Fletcher. We did a football camp together. So I know him. That’s the closest thing I know to London. He’s black, so I’m sure he’s not from London. I’m sure that’s a coincidental name."

Dude, seriously…he’s having some fun with you guys. That’s Channing. He cracks his own jokes that only he gets to laugh at.

Here are some facts about Channing. He scored a 30 on the wonderlic. He was a member of the National Honors Society in college. He had a validated 3.5 GPA at University of Florida, and I believe he graduated early.

Seriously, he was making fun of you guys.

Thanks for the update, I only heard about it from my boss at work during lunch. I thought it was interesting if someone really went to college and didn't know that.

I'd find it interesting if someone EXISTED and didn't know that ...
