If you don't like the thread, don't click on it. It is really that simple. There are plenty of threads I never bother even viewing. Such as the Cubs, or Bears. :)

Nice :)

Every now and then this topic is brought up. I'll say, we all don't always agree (that's an understatement), but there seems to be at least two things that we agree on: ND Football and wanting to be able to talk about other things in the Lep

Honestly, I don't know. Somedays it seems inevitable...but in the end, I am hoping to be surprised.

I would like to see a Bill Richardson - Fred Thompson Presidency race.

That would be a great race that would be tough to call based on what we know today. Of course, Thompson needs to announce which I don't believe he will.

How's Richardson doing? He gets overshadowed by the fat cats Hillary, Edward & Obama. Did he even participate in the last Dem. debate? I know Kucinich, Biden, & the wacko from Alaska participated but I never heard a word on Richardson.

To be honest, I think guys like Richardson and Thompson are biding their time. There is simply no reason to burn all the cash 9 months before the primaries.

I don't think Thompson will run, but you never know. Richardson, I believe, has a better shot than the money and media would lead one to suspect.

It would be hard for me to tell as of yet. Being this is a poll driven nation and political races are now swayed by public opinion who knows. Put for guestimate purposes:

Dem: Hillary (good God)
Rep: Rudy (jeepers)

Who can tell the difference between the two? Horrific.

WE NEED A THIRD PARTY!!!

We need at least two other parties. I like Rudy because he showed strong leadership after 9-11. I know he is a leader. Hillary seems more like an opportunist.

Honestly, I think they are both opportunists.

Rudy DID show cool headed leadership during 9/11...that much we know. But we also know he has personal judgment issues and sometimes leadership judgment issues (maybe stemming from ego issues). Like when he fired the Chief of Police who architected the "Cops walk a beat" style. That fella was the brains behind cleaning up crime in NYC...and he and Rudy bumped heads, so he got whacked.

Both of them are fairly ruthless in the way they pursue things they care about, so their passion is not in question.

Policy-wise they are very similiar. Sometimes Rudy is farther left than Hillary...sometimes the reverse.

They are two poll driven candidates IMO.

I like neither but as in 2000 and 2004 I guess I'll vote for the lesser of the two evils.
I guess I am more nervous with who will take office then I ever been. Well I only been able to vote in only the last 4 presidental elections and both times the incumbent won, but still...

This is good conversation and by far this is the most intelligent site (as opposed to the Sports Big Brother or better known as the Worldwide Leader) I've ever been on.

All politicians are opportunists, but some more than others. Rudy has a history as being an effective manager. Hillary does not. That goes a long way with me.

She may not be bad. I just don't like her vision for healthcare or other things. I guess we shall see. :)

Actually, she has a history as a good manager, but she has not been a manager in public office. She has done it privately.

Arnold found out that being a chief executive is not easy. It does require having principles and core values. Otherwise, you might as well just follow the poll numbers.

Yeah, he really floundered early on. He also found out that you should never really go against the voters all out. He got blitzed in a bunch of ballot measures.

He really needed to hone his message and not go off on random tangents. Stick to a philosophy and message...it will help in so many ways. [general political advice]

A great book about how to maintain your base support and ensure you are doing the "right" thing:
All Politics is Local by Tipp O'Neil

I read it year ago, but many lessons stuck with me...even in the business world.

I agree about Rudy, he didn't want to share (or lose) the limelight to the Chief of Police. Ever read the book Freakanomics? The authors make some salient points w/ interesting stats about the drop in crime in NYC during that time & how it related to the rest of the major cities in America.

Yeah, you might as well throw Gore in there as a possible late entry. I agree the races are starting way too early & w/ the debates not being as spaced out as in the past, it doesn't give the little guys on either side a chance to gain "the Big Mo" which means no Cinderella stories.

Rudy ain't perfect, nobody is. But I'll trust him or Fred Thompson over anybody else, from any party. I don't care how they stand on abortion (see, we all aren't a bunch of religious zealots!), they just garner a lot more trust from me than all others combined.

I'm w/ you. If I had my druthers, I'd like to see what Thompson has to offer, but if it comes down to Rudy vs. the Socialist; I'll take Rudy. He is, IMO, the lesser of 2 evils as I have, unfortunately, become accustom to voting for.

I consider myself a conservative independent, which means in most national races, the candidate who most closely shares my values, is the Republican. Locally, I find myself choosing more Dems. Unfortunately, for the DNC, they're all more in line w/ Socialist views vs. good old fashioned blue-dog Democratic views. We need more Harry Trumans & Scoop Jacksons.

Nah, Gore won't run.

But let's not forget this: Clinton came from WAY behind to win last time.

And you don't have to be named Clinton to be a "come-back kid". For some reason I just don't believe that Hillary, Rudy, Obama, or Mitt will be the chosen ones for their party. I think the American public will be burnt out on all of them come the end of this year.

I'm sick of them already to be honest

Hillary - Please, do I even have to say why?

Rudy - Won't get my vote just for his view on Partial Birth Abortion

Obama - No way I would want my President to be a guy that sold drugs back in the day

Mitt - To use the line that Ron gave Kabongo, I need to get to know him better, he seems interesting, but I am sure by the end of this year I will probably be sick of him.

I am sick of them as well.

What pisses me off is that the media is declaring who is leading NOT by popularity or even ability to sway voters (christ it's so EARLY)...but by who has the most money.

If this were a fund raising contest Warren Buffett or Bill Gates would already be President. ;)

And not one comment about quayle or dukakis?? LOL

LOL...I had no where to go with it. It's been so long they were off the brain.

My favorite Tank moment was Margaret Thatcher in her scarf in the tank:

Now you know where Dukakis got the idea. ;)

Looking back this might be one of the first times a Political Party ridiculed another candidate FOR SERVING his country in a less than cushy scenario. Dukakis served for 2 years in the Army as an intelligence analyst. 16 months of that he served in Korea. Korea was not exactly a "cold" theater either given that he served only 2 years after the cease fire.
