Already said to be the top lineman in Texas regardless of class. Apparently also grew up a Michigan fan. I'm sure Charlie and company haven't already contacted him as every big Division I program has.

JB received offers from Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, LSU, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Florida and Michigan. He is said to be receiving an offer from Texas this weekend at the Ohio State/Texas game.

J.B. now has 12 written offers from Ohio State, LSU, Oklahoma, Florida, Virginia Tech, Mississippi, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Duke and Baylor. He is probably the consensus #1 OL right now.

JB was listed as a Top 30 prospect in the Class of 2008 by Rivals in their recently released recruiting yearbook.

Are we pursuing Shugarts? Wasn't Chris Stewart his team mate? Is he interested in us or has he made his mind up on OHIO State?

Latest update from Rivals says J. B. will narrow his list to six schools after the Army AA game. tOSU will definitely make the list.

In a bit of a surprise, Rivals is reporting through an interview with J.B. himself that ND, through CW has verbally offered him. We have seen Rivals post guys as offered before based on these comments, and then have to retract it, but J.B.'s comment was so specific, and his profile is already so high, that it would certainly seem to indicate that the Irish are also now in the hunt for one of the most highly recruited OL's in the class of 2008.

If he's the #1 OL prospect in the nation, I don't see him leaving Texas. I'm surprised Mack Brown doesn't have him locked up already.

Doesn't Ohio St. have a good shot with him, at least that is what i've read. Buts that is just coming from the OSU side.

B&G has confirmed the Shugarts offer, and thus J.B. becomes the 60th member of the 2008 Irish Envy Official Offer List, and the 8th recruit on the Offer List from the Lone Star State.

what percentage of chance do we have with this guy. From what i see hes to$u bound
JB is friends with Adams (tOSU verbal), Brewster (between Florida and tOSU) and Long (tOSU or baseball). Together, along with Jenkins, they are known as 'Block O'. In the past, Brewster has been openly recruiting for OSU and so has Adams, and Shugarts has been one of their primary targets. It seems like we will land a great OL class this year, which is sorely needed. Take this piece of information for what it's worth.

Ok- ND probably has about a 0% shot at Shugarts, but let's not go overboard. Shugarts did not call CW to ask him to offer him. Do you really believe that CW would offer a guy because he asked. If he did ND23 would have received an offer this week. I know where you got that from IK1023, but you only saw half of the story. Shugarts was calling CW back after he was told by his Coach that CW had called to offer him. His call back was no different than Mike Golic Jr.'s call back from Italy when he was offered.

It appears to me that the staff is in the process of offering quite a few guys right now like Shugarts who by the conventional wisdom were already locks with another school. These ND offers are coming a few weeks after these guys have been offered by their "lock" school, and still did not commit. Fauria & Page are somewhat in this category, and now one is considered to be an ND lean, and the other has ND as one of his favorites. Two other prime examples of this are Omar Hunter (Michigan) & Marcus Forston (Miami). Neither one of these guys has committed to their lock school, and Forston at least is planning an Official Visit to South Bend in the fall. It seems like a sound strategy to me, don't waste an offer on a guy who looks like he is going to commit to his "lock" school when offered, but if he does not commit, and the guy is a blue-chip recruit like everyone in this group, you have nothing to lose by making the offer. It's the old, throw shit on the wall, and see if it sticks theory. Now granted, Shugarts has probably the least chance of anything sticking, but you have nothing to lose by hurling the offer, and everything to gain, e.g. interest from Fauria, Page, & Forston.

I called Charlie yesterday and I got his voice mail. WTF? On the other hand Uncle Bill I've read that this is a Texas vs OSU battle, I assume that is a correct assesment. I agree completely with the statement of offering the best and see what happens the worst outcome is you don't, but if you do its a bonus.

Offers like this can also help but pressure on other, less blue-chip, prospects to commit sooner, right?

I've heard OSU, LSU, OU, and UM in that order.

I think LSU and OSU are separating themselves.

Texas is not in the reckoning, rest assured.

Florida was in to talk to JB. Wonder what happened there though. No mention of them in any of the recent news articles.

Verbaled to O$U at their spring game yesterday.

GG- Was this a silent verbal? It is probably just a mere formality but he has scheduled a news conference to make his announcement tomorrow at 4:00 CST in Texas, and his father is quoted today as saying that it is between Texas A&M, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma and Ohio State. Probably just a smokescreen because all the OSU people are sure that Shugarts is 100% bucknut.

I guess, but I don't know how silent it can be when Brewster is posting about it on his facebook along with his commitment.

From everything I've heard Brewster and Shugarts definately commited and it was a rumor that Jenkins and Sweat committed as well. But since then Jason was able to get in touch with Andrew and found out that he in fact did not commit.

Plus there is always this pic that was taken this weekend too...

That's Shugarts, Brewster, Jenkins, and Adams from left to right. (O$U's Block "O")

Thanks GG, I can only shake my head about Jenkins being in that picture when he is still considered a WVU recruit, although "soft" does not adequately describe how weak that committment is.

BTW- Great picture and all, but now that I have seen it, can you delete it, all that red is making my dinner indigestable.

I am not sure why you guys keep saying Jenkins is a "soft" verbal. Now, I don't know what scout and rival list him as, but while he verballed to WVU, he has retracted his verbal openly, and is currently wide open, that is, as "wide open" as you can be and still appear in the picture above.

Speaking of which, it must be the camera angle because Shugarts is a LOT bigger than that pic. http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25709&page=18 First post has another pic showing Shugarts and Adams towering over the rest.
