Big Wednesday

This Wednesday looks like it is going to be a mini version of the B&G game at least as far as recruits on campus. McDonald, Crist, & Newman are all going to be there, and Sean Cwynar is also coming with Darius Fleming, no doubt to do a little recruiting of his own. Robert Hughes usually shows up when Fleming is around, and Hughes is another recruiting asset. Now if only someone could do something about the weather forecast, it sucks.

Is there a chance they all committ ?

Haha, that would be incredible. If Charlie were to land those four, with the commits that we already have we would most likely have one of the top three classes in the nation. However, all four is a bit of a stretch, thought maybe not entirely rediculous, getting two of the four would still be quite an accomplishment and a big pump to the program.

Out of those four I think landing all of them is quite possible but I'm not sure about the likelihood of accomplishing that task this weekend. I think Flemming would have already commited if they didn't have to wait on any academic hang-ups. If you look at it from a logical standpoint it seems as though as it's just all a mere formality at this point anyway, he's on campus more than most of the players already commited to ND in the '07, or '08 classes, and it's progressed to the point that ot seems like he' at ND every weekend. I also think it is very likely that McDonald will commit this weekend. With Newman or Crist I suppose it's possible but I'm not sure how close either is to making a decision but I think both could leave ND as a heavy Irish lean if things go well this weekend.

I wish we would land them all this week, but I see some waiting until to summer to see a few other places first to confirm they want to be at ND.

How many of them will be back for the B&G game?

I think you guys are under estimating how hard it would be to nail a top 3 class...Tennesee was 3rd last year and did you see all the 5 and 4 stars they got? I'll be happy if we have a top 10 class...lets think realistically, if everyone we talked about commited every year that we thought we'd be #1 every year, but it's not the case. I think McDonald is going to commit at the end of the week but i don't think Newman will..he has given absolutley no signs of commiting to us at all let alone this week, watch out for UK he loves them and were on him first.

Somebody has to be #1.

That "somebody" should be ND.

If you look at the classes being compiled by UT and OU (especially OU), I think if we got everyone we realisticly have a shot at, I think we'd only be in the top 5 as we know USC and FL will bring in big recruiting classes. Miami is doing well right now and OSU is coming back strong after a down year. I would certainly be very happy with a top 5 class though and landing all the prospects we're in on now.

Braxston Cave is supposed to join Sean Cwynar on campus tomorrow to meet up with McDonald & Crist. Cwynar contacted McDonald last week about meeting up during McDonald's visit. Anthony's parents, grandparents, and high school position coach are all accompanying him on this visit.

Are you ready for Big Wednesday? It appears that McDonald & Crist will not be the only California recruits on campus tomorrow.

Ryan Dannewitz, a 6"6', 257 lb. Offensive Tackle from San Jacinto, CA, will also be on campus. Dannewitz who does not presently hold an Irish offer is a member of the Rivals 250 to Watch list for 2008. Dannewitz is another guy like recent ND offer Joseph Fauria who was thought to be a Colorado lock, however, Dannewitz is saying that his recruiting is wide open, and a lot of people beleive that Fauria is now an ND lean. Fauria hooked up with his old buddy Dayne Crist at Stanford's Junior Day the last weekend in March, and is familiar with Ryan Dannewitz through the Colorado recruiting connection, so there is a good probability that Dannewitz will be tagging along with fellow Californians Crist & McDonald tomorrow.

I hear the weather is horrible out there, couldn't be any worse for the California recruits, but at least they will know what it's like in December in South Bend. I heard the roads were bad as well, which may impact Sean Cwynar's plan to visit with Darius Fleming. The two of them were supposed to drive down together, hang out at Cave's house, then go to watch practice and have dinner. Sean and Braxston are working hard to get Darius firmly on board, so hopefully the weather has not derailed today's efforts.

Hey, that's not bad! It's actually a bit wet and dreary in Berkeley this morning ... but then again temps will probably hit 70 by mid-afternoon, suckers!
