It has been learned that a memo has been passed out to the democrat congressional staffers to not use the term 'Global War on Terror'. Two other phrases that are verboten are 'long war' and 'attacks on the US'.

Is it me, or are the dems living in wonderland?? Are we going to act as if ALL of the attacks on us around the world (and here) are not terror related, and they AREN'T REALLY at war with us?? Have there not been attacks on US soil?? Is there not a global war on terror? Does anyone think this will be shortlived (especially since the TERRORISTS have attacked us for many years????

This is not about Iraq, this is about acknowleging that there IS a war on terror. It is because of this type of action that Iran feels emboldened to take hostages (yes, hostages), because they know we will do NOTHING. Nobody f...ks with Russia because they will do something.

I fear that by trying to gain political capital, we look even weaker to the countries that we need to appear strong to. It is pretty sad to me that the dems are once again, playing politics with something that should be apolitical.

This is the first I've heard about the memo--but it does look like "playing politics." However, if you are talking about a war--any war--it is not apolitical. War is probably always political, at least in part.

I also don't think it is a bad thing to try to gain "political capital." Of course there are limits, but without it, the U.S. really can't say much about the hostage situation. After all, the U.S. can't really say much about other nations taking hostages. Especially when the other nation apparently is treating them better than the U.S. has treated some of their own. If that mistreatment hadn't occurred, then it may be a different story.

I hear what you are saying. I guess I just wish we could debate honestly and openly about what is going on, without being petty. Dammit, we are ALL Americans, we need to act like it!

As far as the prison stuff goes, in gitmo we treat them better than we do people in US prisons. Abu Graib...was some stupid people (and a lack of leadership at the prison) who were having fun with some bad dudes. I don't consider what we did to them torture, just unprofessional demeaning. No one has ever died from being demeaned, unlike our guys were treated at the hands of the Japs, Koreans, Germans, Vietnamese, Somalians, and the terrorists.

I guess my point is this...whether we want it or not..there is a war being waged by terror groups and nations (see Syria and Iran). If we can't even acknowledge that, how can we even expect to deal with it??

Every nation is scared to death of offending the Muslim world. In England, teachers are no longer allowed to read "The Three Little Pigs" to their pre-schoolers b/c it may offend Muslims. They renamed the nursery tale, "The Three Little Puppies". They are also now forbidden to teach the Holocaust or the Crusades as part of World History in order to prevent offense being taken by Muslims.

In New Jersey, one school is running "hostage crisis" drills. They're similar to fire drills but deal w/ reacting to a hostage taking situation at the school. Did they keep it true to life by using a radical Muslim terrorist group? No, that may offend someone (the truth hurts). Instead, they concocted a made up group down to the very detail of why this group would take hostages. Of course, they described their hypothetical terrorist group as a right-wing Christian group who decides to take hostages at a school where the leader's daughter wasn't allowed to pray in school.

The Dems ignoring the 'Global War on Terror' probably serves the same politically correct purpose as the above examples, in addition to undermining their true enemy...the President.

I admit not knowing the whole story about the prisons (who does?), but I don't know how one can say the Abu Ghraib treatment was just demeaning. True, some was humiliating and demeaning treatment, but there was also physical abuse.

You're absolutely right--this stuff is not on the level of what many others have done. But that does not excuse it, or make it some of these things defensible. Doing lesser evils is still evil.

Actually the Democrats are putting together a bill that will not allow the use of "Long War", "Global War on Terror", "attacks on the US"' during any political debates for the 2008 Presidental elections, nor can you apply these statements to any bills involving money for troops. You have to be specific i.e. "Operations within the Horn of Africa", "Operations in Iraq or Afghanistan". What is interesting is that the 124 billion dollar supplemental that the troops need to continue the war through June 07, has both Iraq and Afghanistan legislation in it. The Dems are against the Iraq War (along with most weak hearted Americans who no nothing about what the word "commitment" means) but seemingly don't want to support OEF (Afghanistan) which has the main purpose of going after the individual terrorist group that attacked the U.S. on 911......... I just don't get it !!!

Political correctness is going to end up killing this country, we are so affraid to offend anyone, it's actually becoming offensive. The Hollocusat never happend ??? We can't talk about the great crusades because it's offensive to Muslims ??? We have to be careful about telling people to only speak english.

Can I (as a white male) go around and telling people that slavery in America never happened, that we never took land from the Native Americans ??? No, it's part of history that is fact...........

I don't know what to think anymore. I do think that since we are in Iraq we can't just up and leave because then every young man and woman who died has died in vain. I just wish someone either Democrat or Republican would come along and have as their number one priority the people of the United States. Both sides play the political game to the hilt and do not care about us at all.
