I hear he might spend the 08 season in Europe because his major calls for it. Any truth to it?

I dunno. UND.com has him listed as FYS, but that's just because that's mandatory for freshmen. I'm not at all sure what his planned major was, but if he is indeed going to be an archie then he'll have to be in Italy (?) for his Junior year. I don't, however, recall any indication that he was going to go that route.

I thought that Rasheon McNeil was going over seas for his junior year. It came up because Lorenzo Edwards (lb who signed with UF) had to take the same route with one year a broad.

If he is on a football scholarship he better not be missing any seasons.

1) Last I heard, Rasheon McNeil is an Architecture major.
2) Notre Dame has a very demanding Architecture program. It's one of the top programs in the country, but it's very difficult to be successful in that program and have a life outside of that program. There were several architecture majors in my dorm freshman year, I almost never saw them. Typically, they were working all night on their next project.
3) Witness what happened last year with Joey Hiben:

According to published reports, tight end Joey Hiben has decided to give up his spot on the Notre Dame football team in order to concentrate full-time on his academic studies. Hiben wants to pursue a degree in architecture - which is a notoriously demanding program at the university - and he has apparently had a bit of difficulty striking an acceptable balance between football and schoolwork. Though leaving the football squad means Hiben will also have to forfeit his scholarship, the soon-to-be sophomore out of Minnesota is confident that he is making the right decision.

4) All architecture majors must spend their junior year studying in Italy. I don't think there are any exceptions.
5) I can't find any links right now, but I remember that both with Hiben and with McNeil, Weis has stated that classwork comes first and that he would fully support whatever they need to do to get their degree, including missing their junior year.

6) Here's a quote from an interview with McNeil:
BGI: You've mentioned architecture as a possible major. Have you been following the Joey Hiben situation, and will it affect your decision in terms of what to study?
RM: I still want to study architecture and I’m not sure of the Joey Hiben situation. If that didn't work out, I don't know what else I would get into. That's the only idea I have right now.

Absurd. If he's an architecture major he better be doing what the program demands.

In response to the above question, '08 IS his Junior year ...

If he were to miss his complete junior season would that mean he would then be eligible to come back for a 5th season?

Why go to Italy? There are plenty of amazing architechtural works in downtown South Bend. Seriously, I don't think it would count against his eligibility.

Since architecture is a 5 year program and he's going to be here anyway, I don't see why he couldn't play football as well.

Of course, even a lot of non-football students wash out of the architecture program. My best guess is that McNeil ends up in a related, but less intense, program like design. This may have been at least partly what Lorenzo Edwards was refering to when he said he was picking the best school for academics and football.

Exactly, it is no different than when the BYU kid's go on a mission. Even if it was a two year program, he would have 2 years of eligibility left when he came back. At ND, education comes first, and it is obvious that CW supports that all the way, as opposed to the fraudulent Cockwad.

Haven't heard the Cockwad's name mentioned all day, so I could not resist taking a jab, even if it was totally irrelevant to the thread.

Haha, you never need a reason to trash the cockwad, regardless of how irrelevant it is to the subject.

I was told by a friend of mine who is an archi major that McNeil is no longer an architecture major. I'm not sure what his new major is though. so this no longer seems to be an issue.

Is this a serious question? "[A]mazing architectural works in downtown South Bend"? Come on now ... I love the 'Bend, but there ain't much about it's "skyline" (ha!) that goes beyond mere curiosity. But yes, it WOULD count against his eligibility if he were an Archie -- which I take it he isn't, per tgolden -- and he didn't go to Italy.

I was joking....hence the "seriously".

Honestly, I thought from the title of this thread that Rasheon McNeil suffered some absurdly critical injury. Missing a year of football due to hanging out in one of the most beautiful places in the world can't be a bad thing -- provided he finds a gym somewhere in Italy. They have Bally's there, right?

Does anyone have the answer?

I think the answer was that IF he were an Archie, then he'd indeed miss the '08 season (per University policy), but it seems that he's going to end up majoring in something else (per tgolden).
