The potential team strength in the 'max' column shows where a lower ranked team could beat a higher ranked 'pre' team. It tells

1. Who can contend for the NC.
2. Which teams, potentially, can beat ND.
3. What schedule pitfalls face ND.

The 'pre' column is the av of the 4 best power rating system estimates going into fall 2006.

The 'max' is the 'pre' column adjusted for the highest potential level of performance.

I disagree and think this is a problemed mentality. If you start writing people off, those are the squads that are going to come in and beat us.

The media disagrees, too. They have no problems reminding us how we've lost bowl game after bowl game. Lets not lose focus on our opponents.

I know, I was just joking and going along with a thing a lot of players say. I'm not writing anyone off at all. Every team is a challenge in its own way. And now way in heck I write off whoever we play WHEN we play in the Fiesta Bowl this year. I only have the slightest memories of our last bowl win when I was a little kid.

I think they would be third at worst in any of the divisions actually.

I too responded with jocularity. I wasn't a little kid, but it's been a long wait for a bowl win. We may not be in the NC, but we will be in a BCS, and I feel confident of a win!

The front runners would probably be the winner of the Ohio St.-Texas game. LSU has a great shot. Two not-so-dark horses in my opinion are Auburn and Oklahoma.

Most media hates us anyway so screw em, we have to be confident that we can win every game. Im not going to write anyone off, but that still doesn't mean I think any of those teams is going to beat us.

In the SEC west, I think LSU, Auburn, and Alabama are superior to WV.

In the East, Florida, Georgia, SC, and maybe Tennessee are better. Although WV did beat Georgia in the Sugar, so who knows, maybe they're better than I think.

But I still think an automatic bid for the Big Least is the second biggest travesty in the current BCS format (lack of true NC game is the biggest, obviously).

The way things are set up, WVU has nearly everyone coming back and a pretty easy schedule. I can see them running the table and ending up in the title game. Other than road trips to Louisville and Pitt, who is out there that really catches the eye?

They go on the road to play Sly and MSU, so we'll see how they stack up against the dregs of the SEC.

At Uconn is dangerous. WVU should win, but on the road, Uconn could snag them. Boy, has Maryland sunk quickly.
