Rutgers and Recruiting?

No it's not, and he never said it was. He won't be leaving i live in Jersey he's got the ball rolling and he won't stop until Rutgers is a perrenial (spelled it wrong im assuming f***spellcheck) power.

Don't drink the Kool-Aid. Schiano will be gone as soon as a bigtime school comes calling.

yeah thats true, he never coached at Miami before and Miami never wins NC's

Again -- read my post a few back.

Schiano WANTED to be at Miami. I am getting this not from "whispers", but from boosters of the Miami program who I know personally.

Schiano wanted Miami to promise to:

1.) Upgrade the facilities (very, very needed)
and
2.) Lower academic standards for the program.

Miami is trying to lose its "bad boy image" -- something that took a significant hit with the FIU brawl -- and Schiano thought he was locked on to become their next head coach, and that the U wanted him bad enough that they'd meet these demands. Miami turned around and said "no thanks."

Schiano then went back to Rutgers saying he was never seriously considering taking the job, and Rutgers was the place to be.

And this isn't coming from boosters who had sour grapes about Schiano "not choosing" Miami -- from what they tell me, they wanted the demands Schiano was asking for, and were pushing for the athletic department to meet the demands.

So...I'll say it again. Don't drink the Kool Aid. Schiano was ready and willing to sign on the dotted line at Miami, and played too strong a hand. Miami walked away from the table, and Schiano tried to save face.

Ok just read this post for the first time but here's my question, why would Miami have to lower academic standards? I mean I know that the facilities there absolutely suck but having to lower academic standards at Miami? They get whoever they want whenever they want when run by a competent coach(not Coker). I know overall Miami is a good school but I have never heard the "we can't get elite talent because of high academic standards" complaint from there before.

I agree, and asked the same question.

But Miami is turning away a lot of guys they want because the school wants to shed the "bad boy" image. The academic standards are in no way crippling -- but they're not the lowest of the low, either.

A lot changed after Butch Davis left. Look at their recruiting classes. They've been considerably down for the last few years.

So you're personally attacking him because you disagree with this "crap newspaper in Miami" and he's just posting what someone else said. Sorry, but I don't think so. We're not going to delete his posts, nor will we be canning the thread. Learn to play nice or you'll continue to see posts disappear.

I think the lack of success recently as far as recruiting goes is probably due to Coker more then anything. I don't know the ins and outs of Miami football but I know Butch Davis was an incredible recruiter, watch how fast he turns UNC around. I think Coker got lazy like certain coaches in the past at ND have gotten lazy letting the name sell itself. I don't think that works anymore. Plus, you look at the last few years on the field and they haven't played dominate football, so there aren't in the National title hunt every year and that hurts recruiting.
I think the bad boy image has comeback there because Coker was known as a players coach and let those guys kind of get loose. You can't bring in teenagers that have a past history of off the field stuff and then just expect them to shape up overnight when they get out of that environment. Is it right that coaches have to play babysitter/dad roles to young men? No, but sometimes you have to understand the situation when your bringing a guy in. In general if you want to get rid of that image I think you just have to quit recruiting those young men that you think could cause problems. Raise your standards not lower them in other words.

I agree completely about Coker's lack of effort. He watched guys walk out of his backyard (Miami Dade) because the Miami name wasn't just wasn't selling anymore. But academic standards have come up at Miami.

Irishknight -- I'm not going to return the fire (I'm assuming you insulted me if you had comments deleted by the moderator). I have family and family friends who are either directly involved with, or very close to the UM athletic department. Whether you want to believe that or not, I really could give a shit. They told me these things -- I didn't read it in any damn paper.

And just one more thing -- people who carry big sticks on internet message boards usually do so because they're afraid to in the real world. Keep the insults to yourself, pal.

I didn't see your post that was deleted, but this seems to me to be more than enough to account for your newfound negative image:

i see your an internet tough guy..some 40 year old fat guy behind his computer bro just shutup your nothin.

... just apologize and let it be over with, man.

HCTI, and I deleted them for solid reasons. I think that we as Mods, have shown ourselves to be very fair and that we have reasons for what we do. You need to just let it go and move on to the next subject before you become the next WeisBankAccount, or Clotho/RalphWaldoEmerson.

There are ways to go about disagreeing with someone while being a gentleman about it. And there is the way you went about it. Lay off, let this go, and let's move on.

I think if you go back and look, you verbally insulted him 3 times. We are not out to single out individual posters as this would not be good business as a whole for the site. Posting and ideas are what make IrishEnvy go. However, when one poster is continuously berating another, we have no other choice but to take action and clean things up. If this is a source of pain, I'd suggest you look for other means of internet entertainment. However, if you agree to bury this incident, you'll certainly be welcome here at Irishenvy. The choice is yours...
