Assuming Clausen is in, who verbals next?

Do you think anyone else verbals at the game tomorrow? If so, who do you think will?

My bet is that Ragone, Benn, Kumara, and Michael Williams will commit tomorrow or on Sunday.

You think that many will? Wow.

It's time to be optomistic, but realistic too. I hope we get Benn & Kumara.

Yeah, I figured we'd come out of the weekend with 2-3 verbals. However, with the buzz that is all over ESPN, kids may want to get a piece of that and throw their hats into the ring alongside Clausen.

Man, I really wish my wife didn't go out of town this weekend. I would have been in South Bend. I hope someone gets pictures!

Benn and Kumara will be following close after, maybe also Nic Poz if the extend the offer this weekend. In the next few days I'd expect to see Ragone and possbily Williams added to that list.

Well, I definitely hope we get a couple of the top tier receivers to follow him. That and I'd like to get a freak TE. I can only imagine what Weis could do with a Gates-type of TE.

That and hope he can persuade some defensive players, especially some linebackers and corners that would like to be part of it rather than having to stop it.

To be honest, I havn't seen too much about his commitment on ESPN. There was one little news story on Sportscenter last night that came at about the half-way point in the show, but besides that, nothing. Anyone seen something I havn't?

We all know Dumar is a gimmie just when? Benn is the next target and I expect to hear from him in the next week. I know that Claussen is going to hit the recruting hard for Weis this summer. This kid, like Weis, expects nothing less than a National Championship.

I agree. Maybe not today or Sunday, but they're next and they're soon.

Nic Pozderac will get an offer and verbal as well.

I don't think ESPN ever really covers recruiting news.

Hey, what are you doing watching ESPN? I thought ND folks were not allowed to watch ESPN.

I heard Ragone talking on his cell phone and he said about Jimmy Cluasen commit and he said they are going to have a "banging team" here.

I said he wants to win 4 national championships! Now that's shooting for the stars!

My hope is that he works HARD on Deonte Thompson (WR from FL). This guy is another Percy Harvin and would have a greater impact on our offense than A. Benn.

Is Thompson a fast guy? Because Benn looked very strong and had great ability, but not a real burner.

so i've been as excited as anyone about clausen, and i have pretty good patience. yet, i feel like there's no news at all coming out about additional commitments. does anyone know anything about the intentions of recruits that have surfaced this weekend? or will we be hearing this info all this next week?

I think the commits probably will begin to come in a couple of weeks.

You have to keep in mind, that nowadays high school players like for a big fuss to be created about their committments. So I think most recruits will wait for the Claussen news to die down a bit, just so that their own committment could receive a lot of hype also.

If other players had committed on Saturday, or within a couple of days from now, their time in the limelight gets overshadowed by Clausen's committment.

AIF, here is some info I have dug up on Deonte Thompson. I'd love to hear what Jigga knows about this guy.

What kind of speed does he have? An article from a Palm Beach, FL newspaper claims he is the fastest man in the state of FL. Quote, "Glades Central junior Deonte Thompson ran the 100-meter dash in 10.55 seconds to win at last weekend's Glades Central Invitational. That's believed to be the fastest in the state so far this season."

As far as Deonte Thompson goes, when Scout released their list of 2007 prospects to watch, there was some talk about Deonte Thompson being a Top-10 overall recruit and the #1 WR prospect in the country.

He currently lists these schools as his favorites (among others). Here is what I have read about the connection to each school listed in the order of his interest (in my opinion):

1. Miami - Needs a Big-Time WR and the Canes are his parent's favorite team!
2. Florida - Gators have a history of success in Glades H.S. and he grew up a Gator fan.
3. Ohio State - His cousin is OSU WR Albert Dukes and Deonte attends the same high school that Santonio Holmes came from.
4. Notre Dame - In need of a deep threat and can play right away.
5. Florida State - Attended FSU Bowl practice last year and with Rouse dimissal last year, the noles need a deep threat.

Right now I'm hearing that miami is going to be the team that will be the one to beat. Their wr depth chart is suspect. The last two years of WR recruiting at Miami has been surprisingly average. he could very well make his way right into the starting rotation there. Now you could argue that the same is true at ND, but, he is a FL guy and most of them want to stay close to home and in warm weather.

On 4/14 , Deonte cancelled his trip to the ND spring game but said he is still very interested in the Irish. We'll see?! I can only hope! Maybe JC will change our fortunes with Deonte Thompson.

I know I'm new here guys but I have to be honest. I've watched a bunch of film on 2007 WR prospects. And by far, the one that was most impressive is Deonte Thompson. A. Benn appears to have some pretty good hands, great strength, and decent moves but he lacks WR speed. It was very obvious watching the film on him. I was more impressed with his play as a DE. I would go as far as to say he should be a TE in college. I think he would be a dynamite TE or LB.

Now Thompson, on the other hand....this guy seems to have good size (although not as big as Benn). But, who needs size when you have the moves and raw speed this guys does. If you haven't watched his tape you need to soon. He reminds me of Percy Harvin and he looks a little bigger than Percy but just as fast/quick.

Hands down, D. Thompson is #1 on my wish list. I wouldn't care if he was our only WR commit this year I think he is that valuable.

What I liked most about Benn was his toughness and his creativity on the field. He reminds me a lot of Breylon Edwards.

A receiver doesn't necessarily need to be the fastest guy on the field; I think Benn is just more of a posession type guy. Either way, he'll have his place on the field. And it's not like he's any slower than Stovall was. Speed isn't set in stone, either. A good speed trainer could do a lot for him.

To be honest, I havn't seen Thompson's videos yet, but you've pretty much said what everyone has---namely that he has the speed and athleticism our offense is missing. I'll probably wait until I think we have a legitimate shot at him before I even start following his recruitment.

Benn is a big guy. Seeing him in person yesterday, I was not prepared for just how big he really was. If his 4.45 time is legit, he can get that down a bit and be a force in college.

Deonte Thompson is a burner. He's extremely fast and gets those YAC stats that WR can be so valuable for. I like him, but I love those big guys....Benn, Kumara, Little. Still, if ND has a serious shot at Deonte Thompson he would be an incredible weapon in Weis' offense and a receiver that ND has never seen before.

Alas, I think it will be tough to pull him out of Florida.
