yeah thats true, he never coached at Miami before and Miami never wins NC's
Again -- read my post a few back.
Schiano WANTED to be at Miami. I am getting this not from "whispers", but from boosters of the Miami program who I know personally.
Schiano wanted Miami to promise to:
1.) Upgrade the facilities (very, very needed)
and
2.) Lower academic standards for the program.
Miami is trying to lose its "bad boy image" -- something that took a significant hit with the FIU brawl -- and Schiano thought he was locked on to become their next head coach, and that the U wanted him bad enough that they'd meet these demands. Miami turned around and said "no thanks."
Schiano then went back to Rutgers saying he was never seriously considering taking the job, and Rutgers was the place to be.
And this isn't coming from boosters who had sour grapes about Schiano "not choosing" Miami -- from what they tell me, they wanted the demands Schiano was asking for, and were pushing for the athletic department to meet the demands.
So...I'll say it again. Don't drink the Kool Aid. Schiano was ready and willing to sign on the dotted line at Miami, and played too strong a hand. Miami walked away from the table, and Schiano tried to save face.
