Nothing like getting quips in early in the morn!
It seems to me it always comes down to faith. Those who don't believe will point to "evidence" to provide proof that they are right.. Those who believe do not need evidence to justify their belief. It is as simple as that. Attacking each other with so called "evidence" will never change each other's mindset.

what the hell was "Passion" then? That was shameful. Melg Gibson is off his rocker anyway and that was nothing but a glorified horror movie.

Funny thing is, I never saw the movie. :)

That was not a documentary, from what I heard, just one guy's interpretation of what occured. I have no problem with filmmakers doing that, as long as they don't go too far (whatever that means).

stonebreaker,....... what if....what if..........the evidence confirmed with 99.999999% accuracy that this was true? I am just saying what if? What would people like you and the fly and nd23 do? Would you still deny it as being true? Because i just find that hard to believe in the face of overwhelming evidence that rational and intelligent people would ingnore almost certain proof.

Yeah, and if my aunt had nuts, she'd be my uncle. Sorry, this thread needed some levity. Give up GD1977 (I miss that name), you're not going to convince any of us Christians that what you're saying is true. Just like us trying to convince you that gay marriage or abortion or gun control is wrong is not going to happen. IMO, there would have to be the greatest consipiracy theory EVER to get so many different witnesses from different areas in different times to come together and fabricate Jesus' death, resurrection, etc. Not saying you have to believe it. But since you like the "What if?" scenario: If the Bible & a relationship w/ Christ being the only way to eternal salvation is all a "convenient fairy tale", then all of us are a bunch of looney Jesus freaks. But, what if it's true:) ?

I like Pascal's wager. If there isn't a God, you are better off living as if there is one than you are living as if there isn't one, and it turns out there is.

Cameron documentary on Jesus finding draws many skeptics
By Marshall Thompson

Article Last Updated: 02/27/2007 08:29:24 PM MST

Jerusalem - Archaeologists and clergymen in the Holy Land derided claims in a new documentary produced by the Oscar-winning director James Cameron that contradict major Christian tenets.

"The Lost Tomb of Christ," which the Discovery Channel will run at 7 p.m. Sunday, argues that 10 ancient ossuaries - small caskets used to store bones - discovered in a suburb of Jerusalem in 1980 may have contained the bones of Jesus and his family, according to a Discovery Channel press release.

One casket even bears the title, "Judah, son of Jesus," hinting that Jesus may have had a son. And the very fact that Jesus had an ossuary would contradict the Christian belief that he was resurrected and ascended to heaven.

Most Christians believe Jesus' body spent three days at the site of the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem's Old City. The burial site identified in Cameron's documentary is in a southern Jerusalem neighborhood nowhere near the church.

In 1996, when the BBC aired a short documentary on the same subject, archaeologists challenged the claims. Amos Kloner, the first archaeologist to examine the site, said the idea fails to hold up by archaeological standards but makes for profitable television.

"They just want to get money for it," Kloner said.

The claims have raised the ire of Christian leaders in the Holy Land.

"The historical, religious and archaeological evidence show that the place where Christ was buried is the Church of the Resurrection," said Attallah Hana, a Greek Orthodox clergyman in Jerusalem. The documentary, he said, "contradicts the religious principles and the historic and spiritual principles that we hold tightly to."

Stephen Pfann, a biblical scholar at the University of the Holy Land in Jerusalem who was interviewed in the documentary, said the film's hypothesis holds little weight.

"I don't think that Christians are going to buy into this," Pfann said. "But skeptics, in general, would like to see something that pokes holes into the story that so many people hold dear.

"How possible is it?" Pfann said. "On a scale of one through 10 - 10 being completely possible - it's probably a one, maybe a one and a half." Pfann is even unsure that the name "Jesus" on the caskets was read correctly. He thinks it's more likely the name "Hanun." Kloner also said the filmmakers' assertions are false.

"It was an ordinary middle-class Jerusalem burial cave," Kloner said. "The names on the caskets are the most common names found among Jews at the time."

Archaeologists also balk at the filmmaker's claim that the James Ossuary - the center of a famous antiquities fraud in Israel - might have originated from the same cave. In 2005, Israel charged five suspects with forgery in connection with the infamous bone box.

"I don't think the James Ossuary came from the same cave," said Dan Bahat, an archaeologist at Bar-Ilan University. "If it were found there, the man who made the forgery would have taken something better. He would have taken Jesus."

Although the documentary makers claim to have found the tomb of Jesus, the British Broadcasting Corp. beat them to the punch by 11 years.

what does highlighting those points mean? Those guys admit they have not even seen the evidence and yet they claim it is false because it goes against the highest tenets of faith. That is a certain type of psych disorder i am for sure but i cant think of the name.

SLH,

These folks had in fact seen the evidence when it was first presented by the BBC 11 years ago, and since then. Read the article again.

Amos Kloner was one of the first to examine the site. Pfann was interviewed as part of the documentary and believes that there may have been a misreading of the name on the ossuary. As a result, you can't say "Those guys admit they have not even seen the evidence."

For someone who is as intelligent as you claim to be, reading comprehension seems to be an issue.

Regardling the James ossuary, please note that it was exposed as a fraud by the Israeli court, hardly a place one goes if they want to get validation of Christian beliefs.

Perhaps it is because the James ossuary was exposed as a fraud that we find the evidence presented here to be less than compelling.

yeha that makes a lot of sense. nope

No less sense than using Occam's Razor.

Regardling the James ossuary, please note that it was exposed as a fraud by the Israeli court, hardly a place one goes if they want to get validation of Christian beliefs. You can still find many sites out there right now that still believe the ossuary is true. Prior to the expose Christians came right out and said it had to be true. I mean even people here just take things on faith. that was my whole point really. you cant just take evidence on faith. I dont know one way or the other. I am certainly going to watch the show on the Tv and see what it has to say. I will be the first to say i am rarely convinced by discovery channel documentaries.

Perhaps it is because the James ossuary was exposed as a fraud that we find the evidence presented here to be less than compelling.I agree completely.

No less sense than using Occam's Razor.
LOL! Occams razor can be applied to that and it still makes more sense to not believe in god.

like what? I hate jesus.

Well it would probably take an entire thread to give equal opportunity to the rest of the posters (b/c I'm sure they have plenty of examples, too)...but I'll spare us that, after all, nobody's perfect.

Since you asked...off the top of my head:

You missed the point about me saying how ironic it is that when you call someone ignorant or stupid, you never fail to mispell most of the words. Of course, we all misspell words, that's normal & wasn't my point. But the fact that you're calling out someone's intelligence w/ an almoste illiterate sentence iz funy too me (see?). You took it as me bashing your spelling. You missed the point.

You miss the point that we all make about you when you continually name call anyone who disagrees w/ you & then you cry foul when someone returns fire. In fact, you probably turned me in to LMI. You can't have it both ways, slim.

Which leads me to my next missed point. You PM me w/ an F-bomb laced tirade accusing me of "turning you in". It's easy to hide behind your computer & call names, but at least have enough class to admit you were wrong. Instead, you lash out before collecting facts...kinda strange for a scientist.

Jeez, buddy, this is getting old, but I think you get the picture. Worst of all, you have zero sense of humor. Although, at times, you're unintentionally funny.

Now, when (not if) you reply, you'll probably miss the points again, so after this, there's nothing left I can do for you.

LOL stonebreaker that was hilarious.
I believe jesus was on the 12 AD jerusalum football squad, but Im not positive:clap:

Beautiful!

Is there any question that Jesus (the real one) would have played for ND, won 4 NC, 4 Heismans, and turned USC into what could only be described as Sodom and Gommorah ???(mispelled i'm sure)

how old are you 12? Things stop being cool right after you get into the real world. Then it becomes a question of whether you can live with or without it.

Cool is so important. It is "It". That certain charachter trait that commands respect, that turns heads when that person walks in a room. Some people have "It", some don't. "It" is Rudy Giuliani on Sept 12th, Bill Clinton (as much as I hate to admit it) being able to jam a cigar in a girl, lie about it, get impeached and come out the backside smelling like a rose. "It" is Gen McAuliffe telling the Germans "Nuts" at Bastogne. "It" is "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall".

You minimize "It" because you don't have "It". And that's one of the reasons you'll never convince anyone of anything. Hell, you couldn't convince an albino in San Diego to use sunscreen.

Back then though it wasnt USC it was the Romans. He had to beat out Judas for the Heisman one year and Pilate the other year. besides those 2 years there was no competition.

Wow, great examples about "it" !!!!!! You are truly a great American!
I can't give props about saying gd1977 not having it, he gets beat up enough. Whether we like it or not, he is an important part of IE. Plus, it gives us good reason to keep coming back for more.

Don't know if you're a cancer survivor or not, but I can attest to the many people afflicted w/ cancer that were truly miracles b/c through their undying faith & positive attitude they beat the big "C". Of course, the oncologists are just as stunned b/c medical science told them that these patients had zero chance for surviving, yet they did. Never underestimate the power of prayer & God's will. Thanks for sharing your story.
