yeah you did beat me to it. Any way what if this stuff turns out to be true? What will yall do then?
I saw it...I remember when they discovered the tomb. I don't think we will ever know who it is. However, let's be brutally honest here...
IF JESUS CHRIST GOT MARRIED AND HAD KIDS...IT WOULD NOT CHANGE ANYTHING.
His message was not about Church Ceremonies and Practices... His message was one of love. What better way to express your love than a family?
To an extent, I think the Catholic Church would agree with me on this. But only to an extent.
As a protestant, I don't care if he was married or not...I only care about the message of love, compassion, and being good/honest/true.
I mean it couldve been anyones tomb. come on. back in the 60s AD Israel revolted from the Roman empire and started a war. it went good at first but then they lost and about 20000- to 60000 Israeli rebels were crucified. it could have been anyone.
whats the james ossuary i never heard of that
This thread is so much better with "you know who" on my ignore list!

Not to be mean but it would change everything that the faith was built on. It would mean that Jesus was human and has blood line on this earth. It would not allow for him to be part of the trinity ( unless you belive in transubstantiation which is mythical at best). It would mean that everything about the New Testament was false. What other proof would you need to denounce it? How much more evidence does it take?
Interesting how different sects of the faith are still picking and choosing what to believe versus other sects. Just silly IMO.
do you not see what this does to the priesthood?
How about all the other religions in the world that do not acept JC as their lord and savior?
Even if they lead a good compassionate life they will still be relgated to hell or at best purgatory according to your beliefs.
It basically makes the whole new testament fallable. Christians wont accept that lying down.
I have very little idea of what the Trinity really is... Being Quaker we don't really play around in that type of stuff.
There is NOTHING that says the Christ cannot be human.
Everyone knows that the New Testament was written hundreds of years after actual events. Some believe it's literal, some don't.
To be honest, when looked at with a skeptical eye and a cynical view, the New Testament is far more engaging and important than if it were literal.
If you take it word for word, you have lost the meaning.
Turn the other cheek means so much more when you understand that it was about Civil Disobedience. A Roman citizen could only smack someone with the BACK of their right hand...so offering the other cheek could get them thrown in jail.
Carrying a pack for a mile, then another? That could get a Roman soldier flogged for forcing citizens to carry the pack for more than 1 mile. Again, Civil Disobedience.
I do believe Jesus was mortal. I do not buy the resurrection as such. I do believe that he was a Genius and that his words, taken to heart could change the face of the world...and truly make it a wonderful, caring place...more so than ever before.
But original sin...stuff like that...that's just a way to get money out of people.
Love, forgiveness, fairness, honesty, equality of spirit, etc...it's a good message.
I dont know much about the Quaker version of Christianity but most protestants or Catholics take a literal truth to the bible and even use it to base their politcis on.
Love, forgiveness, fairness, honesty, equality of spirit, etc...is a good message, but you dont need to have belief in the bible to live a life like that. I dont and i live a very generous and propserous life. My whole point.
That's their call, I won't criticize it. Who's to say really?
I agree...it's my point too. That's kinda Jesus' point too...especially since it was all written hundreds of years after his death.
He was pretty progressive given the times he lived in.
Ehhhhh..... see the thing is is that there is plenty of evidence that all or most of JC's teachings were borrowed in some form or another. I mean indigenous peopls of borneo have similar if not identical beliefs reagrding treating people as you would want to be treated.
If jesus was infact not divine and was not reserected...and did not die for our sins...the casm between us and God still exsists and by definition no one is worthy of heaven. Christianity is based on this...it isn't a part of it, it is the whole. We should love etc. etc. but we didn't. Therefore God so loved the world that he sent his only begotten son.....
Quakers believe that God speaks to everyone, but that in order to hear his voice, one must learn to be still and actively listen for it; what Paul Lacout called a "silence which is active." [1] They believe not only that individuals can be guided by this Inner Light, but that Friends should meet together and receive collective guidance from God by sharing the concerns and leadings that he gives to individuals. In a Friends meeting it is usually called "ministry" when a person shares aloud what the Inner Light is saying to him or her.
Leave it to hollywood to put forth fiction concerning religion. Remember, the source is often more telling than the message.
My understanding of the James ossuary was that it was supposed to be the piece of evidence that debunked the belief that Blessed Mother was "the ever virgin Mary". That she bore a son, James, after the birth of Christ. I didn't pay much attention to it because it sounded phony to me from the start.
Having faith is like being cool, either have it or don't. Both attributes are missing in SLH's case.
I think that can be said for the other side too.
Cool always matters
this so called documentary in my opinion is going to be as real as michael jackson's face. I also feel this was about an incovienent truth but dont get me started on that now
Yea, but you don't see me coming out with movies trying to disprove your views. It is called respect and tolerance. I think what they are doing is shameful!
