whoever wrote this... is an idiot. I guess Stanton choking against ND doesn't matter. and I guess Brady putting in 12 hour work days everyday doesn't show that he's serious about the NFL. what a joke. seriously, this was so funny, that I thought everyone had to see it.

NFL rumor: Stanton leaps past Quinn

February 26, 2007

The Lions aren't the only team raving about Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis.

According to profootballtalk.com's "The Rumor Mill," Stanton has become "one of the darlings of the scouting combine."

"Word is that several teams scouting combine now consider Stanton to be ahead of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn," the Web site said Sunday, "due in large part to great interviews with teams in Indy, and strong overall intangibles.

"While no one doubts that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has prepared Quinn to play quarterback in a pro-style offense, there are questions about whether he possesses the leadership abilities to be successful in the NFL.

"As we've previously heard, there also are questions about Quinn's ability to perform on a big stage, and some concerns about whether he wants to be a Hollywood type or whether he is committed to being the best football player he can be. ... So don't be surprised if Stanton gets drafted after JaMarcus Russell of LSU, and prior to Quinn."

And wouldn't that be sweet revenge for the way Quinn's Irish rallied late to beat Stanton's Spartans, 40-37, last September?

Quinn 04-06 86 tds 24 ints

They are really running out of stories. The scouts can't be that dumb...can they?

This is the original source for this story. I will not link it because it will just give the idiot some hits. It was written by a guy named Mike Florio who bills himself as the editor of the Rumor Mill on ProFootballTalk.com. This is nothing more than this one guys opinion. Note in the article that everything he says does not list a single source. Terms like "word is", and "intangibles" are used, but with nothing to support the declarations. Plus using the ridiculous ESPN related "Quinn is a Hollywood type" just shows that this guy is just another hater. Do you think this guy will recant his last statement after the draft? Mike Florio is probably just a pseudonym for Todd McShay.

STANTON LEAPFROGGING QUINN?

One of the darlings of the scouting combine is Michigan State quarterback Drew Stanton. Word is that several teams now consider Stanton to be ahead of Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn, due in large part to great interviews with teams in Indy, and strong overall intangibles.

While no one doubts that Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis has prepared Quinn to play quarterback in a pro-style offense, there are questions about whether he possesses the leadership abilities to be successful in the NFL.

As we've previously heard, there also are questions about Quinn's ability to perform on a big stage, and some concerns about whether he wants to be a Hollywood type or whether he is committed to being the best football player he can be. Similar questions knocked Matt Leinart down to the tenth overall spot in the 2006 draft.

So don't be surprised if Stanton gets drafted after JaMarcus Russell of LSU, and prior to Quinn.

Quinn gets bashed for not winning the big games. What was Stantons record as a starter? Forget this, why do I even bother with these "rumors"!?

Quinn looked like a runningback and lifted like a linebacker, he is a good passer and already knows the pro-style offense. Not to mention CW said in two years he will be better than Tom Brady, so where is the downside. People just want to hate on ND.

I actually think Stanton is a pretty good athlete (from what I've seen ... correct me if I'm wrong on this), and wouldn't be a terrible pickup for an NFL team -- he'd make a nice special teams player, and could be used as a decoy and for trick plays on offense. But there is NO WAY he goes before the tail-end of the first round, and NO WAY he makes it as a QB at the next level.

Isn't that the same website that recently said Terry Bradshaw was killed in a car accident?

this is just stupid. how can brady be losing interest from scouts when he hasn't done any drills or played any games. reminds me of last year with matt l from usc. some of these media people really don't have a clue of whats going on.

To be honest I would rather have BQ go to a decent team like the Dolphins because I want him to succeed. Nothing against the Lions our the Browns but I think he would do better with the Phins. I think it would look better for ND having BQ play well for a playoff contender than a team that struggles. Critics/Media will have a field day if BQ has to run for his life every game and he can't "lead" his teams to wins.

You have got to be kidding me. There is not even a question Brady will be the best NFL QB, back in the day these same media members thought Ryan Leaf was better than Peyton Manning, and look how that turned out.

Does anyone else ever feeling like sticking a fork in your own eye in frustration after hearing/reading such stupidity?
