I could give you a list of good books, but not in the genre you're looking for. and they're probably a little more "sophisticated" in a lot of cases than you are probably looking for for a good, pleasure read. But yes, I read. A lot.

Actually I switched to a more easy read because I had gotten into history ,presidential biographies and political books so much that my family thought I was crazy. This is why I do not know of any fiction writers that are any good. So let me have your recomendations I can take it.

Ok, here's just a few that I found very good that you may or may not like.

anything by Chiam Potok, but especially My Name is Asher Lev or The Chosen

Cry, the Beloved Country

Things Fall Apart

Roots, regardless of who you are, it's just a really good read

and of course, my all time favortie, regardless of age, Harry Potter

I'm sure there are a lot more, but I'm having some trouble thinking of them right now.

and I actually really enjoy history and political/sociology books too... but my family doesn't think I'm weird b/c we all do it... only my friends think I'm weird.

Okay, cool. I don't know if anyone is into the epic/fantasy type stuff but these are the best books (series) that I have ever read:

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings
A Storm of Swords
A Feast for Crows

All by George R.R. Martin. Best characters I have ever seen, and it is not the typical fantasy plot. Characters you hate in the first book, you will like by the fourth and vice versa. Not afraid to axe a MAJOR character, either. If you like these kind of books, check them out. You won't be disappointed.

I am currently reading the Alex Delaware series of books by Jonathan Kellerman. He's got about 20 or so, dating back to the late 80s. The main character is a child psycologist who works with an LA police detective to solve crimes all involving children victims. The books are really quite good. I have a hard time putting them down. Check them out.

Freakanomics is a great non-fiction read by Steven Levitt.
Lomardi's bio by David Mariness is worth the money, too.

Just to show off my "nerd cred"... I'm currently plowing through "The System Of The World" by Neal Stephenson, the third and final book in The Baroque Cycle. ("Quicksilver" and "The Confusion" are the first two books.) When that's done, I'll go back and re-read his book "Cryptonomicon," which I first read a couple of years ago, because The Baroque Cycle is somewhat of a prequel. And at that point, my brain will probably shut down and go into a coma. Neal Stephenson is NOT light reading.

Oh, and want a laugh? Go into a bookstore and just look at the paperback for "Cryptonomicon." I never even KNEW they could make a paperback THAT thick!

Th God Delusion. Also Lucifer Principal. Elegant Universe is a great read. Bring your calculator. Dragons in the Garden of Eden and Brocca's Brain by Carl Sagan.

That should give you a lot to do. Seriously, read them. You wont be dissapointed.

This book will absolutely blow you away. 4,000 Days by William Fellows

It's a true story about a guy who spends 4,000 days in a Bangkok prison and it's brutally crazy. I read it in a single weekend and I never put it down.

Sounds like you might enjoy Jack Higgins, including The Eagle Has Flown, The Eagle Has Landed, Drink with the Devil, Night of the Fox, and The Bormann Testament, to name a few. They are historical fiction of the drama/suspense genre, and very entertaining reads.

The Elegant Universe is an absolutely wonderful non-technical, qualitative introduction to some basic concepts of string theory for anyone with interest in science/physics. The Fabric of the Cosmos is another great book by Brian Greene.
