They pulled his scholarship because he wanted to go to Notre Dame. They needed the scholly to give to someone who was going to actually play at Iowa, hence the offer to Bruce Davis today.

Not a bad tact when you're dealing with lower rung prospects.

Word is Nick Wood told Polian no.

I think I jumped on someone (maybe you) about this a while ago: but whence comes this "word"? We have heard nothing from Robdog in the last few days; it is true that several WEEKS ago he said that Wood told Polian "no", but there is at least some reason to think that things might have changed since then. Do you have a concrete source (reveal-able or not) that indicates otherwise?

Yeah, there was a recent post/sticky/article by a moderator on a major board that basically said Polian called Nick Wood and Nick insisted he wanted to stay with Willingham and Washington, so it sounds like we ran into a dead end here.

I read on the scout Iowa board yesterday that smith helped recruit some of the players that Iowa has commited. They could be looking for a few more player decommiting if this is true.

Yeah, especially this late ni the recruiting season. The thing is, if Iowa waits to see his decision aqfter he gets back from the ND visit, then they are SOL because it is already Feb. 5th.

But since they were getting an idea he was going to ND anyway, they offer it to someone else and give them a week to sit on it if they need to. Not 1 day. Makes total sense. And works out for the Irish :)

Also, it turns out that it is true that Minter was the reason for not having offered Smith in the first place. It was in an article. Pretty amazing that Minter would be so short-sighted and assume that Smith just wouldn't fit into his system.

I'm so glad he is gone. He was crippling this program.

Weis said in his presser that Smith is being brought in as an OLB/rush end.
