What are your thoughts on the proposed changes of replacing the individual team champion with the dual team champion? I personally would love to see a way to have the dual tournament, give a certain # of points that get added to the team points during the individual tournament. If it's one or the other, I say keep it the way it is.
InterMat Wrestling - A look at pros and cons of proposed NCAA change
I'm a pretty big wrestling fan. I come from one of the biggest wrestling families in Ohio, certainly in NW Ohio. Were not on the level of the Jordan family (or even close...who is?) but we've got a handful of state champions, national champions, and state placers.
My cousins wrestled at Ohio State but grew up big time Notre Dame fans. It is my great hope that my cousin JD will one day be the coach at Notre Dame. A nine-time national champion throughout his life (most recently 2010), a pure gentleman and devout Christian....it's sorta my dream job for him. hahah
Before that can happen I have to win the lottery and pay for Notre Dame to start the program back up. Until that happens I'll remain a big Ohio State wrestling fan.
......As for the change: if they can keep the individual champion tournament as prestigious as it is, then I'd be all for it. But the goal in wrestling will always be an individual championship (my cousin went 3rd, 4th, DNP, 2nd in his days at OSU). No one wrestles for a team championship (hence why so many outstanding wrestlers don't go to Iowa/Iowa State/Penn State) they want their own trophy.
But I'd be for it, it sounds like it could be really exciting.
