Jim Mora was Weis's first choice for DC (?)

Not sure if people have heard this, but Peter King talked about it yesterday in his SI.com column (link):

Corwin Brown got the Notre Dame defensive coordinator's job, but the guy Charlie Weis really wanted was Jim Mora.

Interesting ... that said, it's listed under "Ten Things I Think I Think", so maybe it's just speculation? Probably not ...

Also, King reports that Weis's buyout is even bigger than we dreamed it could have been (link):

That figure plus the fact that he doesn't want to leave should take him out of the NFL pool for the foreseeable future.

smart on NDs part actually. Youd have to be a total f'in idiot to buy him out of that contract. Truth be told though, if he wins a few NCs in the next 5 years, somebody would fiddle with that buyout - namely Jerry Jones.

te media couldnt even really get that ball rolling with a straight face this year. Plus I dont think CW is as hot a commodity this season anyway. This was a disappointing year at ND with expectations after last year - the team was notably worse this season than last.

regarding Jim Mora, if peter king thinks he thinks that, then he is an fing idiot. The only link to CW that Mora jr. is Ty. He will wait one more year for ty to drag Udub down and then say hey i am ready, make me an offer. Then Udub will be touted as a racist instituion for only giving ty 3 years.

Yep...I don't believe the Mora story for one second. But if it were true, I think it would have been a bad move.

1. People rarely do their best when they are under employed. Mora would not have been happy as our DC.

2. Mora would have simply been looking for a HC slot while filling our void. Bad move. There is something to be said for continuity of the coaching staff. We need to hire someone that wants to be in th job for a while.

they seem to conviently forget our poor recruiting classes, our losses to syracuse and byu and purdue while also getting waxed by our arch rivals.

That was my problem with our staff initially. While I was excited to a certain extent that most of our assistants were HCs at some point, I worried that they were under employed and would become discontented very quickly.

It turns out that they were. Nothing gives a team more of an identity crisis than two many Chiefs.

It would be interesting to know if this is true. It might be, but it's hard to say. ND generally does not throw those numbers out in public EVER. There is still debate today whether Willingham had a 5 or 6 year contract.
