He learned defense from some of the best defensive minds in the game
He is young and energetic
He is a players coach

Basically he is the perfect compliment to Weis's business-like approach to the game. I smell a NC.

Because Charlie is off fighting the war on terror and feeding starving children in Africa... he can't make it back for a Presser for a while yet...

Gee, I knew there would be a good reason.

If you hear from him, tell him I said to tell Jack Bauer hi.

I don't know much about the new DC, but I am excited that they didn't put up with the Minter mediocrite. I'd rather try something new than go through anymore 600yd blowouts.

I don't know if there is anything to this, but are there going to be more coaching changes? What is the status with Lewis if Brown is doing DB's? Who does LBs now? Is Oliver out now? If there are other coaching changes to be made, Weis may be waiting until all of them are finalized before officially announcing them.

This seems logical, if true. You'd rather have it all at once than not at all. I wonder if Charlie just doesn't want to have like 5 press conferences and Saban-esque controversy as people speculate and misquote etc.

On the plus side Vince, I have yet to hear a truly dissenting voice of opinion that says Corwin won't be the new DC. Other rumors and so-called facts such as Benn being a lock, Donald being Irish, Ken Norton Jr. etc. all had opponents who called them bogus, even if they were minorities. I have yet to really hear even a minority dissent on this one, and that's encouraging.

True enough. But if all these reporters have such great high-up inside sources, can't those same sources tell them when the press conference announcing the new DC will be?

I want this to be true; Corwin Brown sounds like a good pick the more I hear about him. But I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

Those are my questions and that's my theory. One of the possible anwsers to the question about Lewis that I've heard is that Brown might not be coaching the DBs, or any other position, because that would take away from the time and energy that he needs to focus on the overall defense and recruiting. His responsibilities would then be overseeing the entire deffense and helping out the position coaches where he thinks improvement is needed and being a very active recruiter. So if that's the case then the LB coach would still need to be filled, and any other position coach that might have been let go that we haven't heard about yet.

Didn't he coach for the Jets? Great, we'll have a defense as good as the Jets'! They've been a defensive juggernaut for so long.

HE is also a product of the Chicago Public league and has ties to it. Hope is htat he wil lstrengthen our hold on it and keep the Mr. "Magic hands" Zook out of the top talent.

With all due respect, I'm not sure an "anyone but Minter" approach will work. There are, in fact, worse coordinators out there.

I can't think of any off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are.

The reason for the long delay is that the ND administration must approve all coaching changes and ever since the O'Leary fiasco, they have taken their time and researched a prospective coach very thoroughly.

Also, if Oliver and Lewis were part of the Minter firing, then Brown/Weiss could be filling out the balace of the assistant staff on the defensive side. I wouldn't be surprised if Polian is also gone on ST. We'll just have to wait and see.

Minter being cut loose was the best news I've had since our last win. BE AGGRESSIVE on defense!!!!!!!

In case you guys were still wondering if Corwin was coming in. On Scout, they have an article talking about Ian Williams.

He was talking about a conversation he had with Parmalee, and in it, they talked about Corwin coming in, and the difference it would make. They didn't expand on it much, but it was obvious that Parmalee was talking with Ian about it.

It will be interesting to see what his approach will be this next season. With so many "youngsters" running around, I wonder if he will play more passive or be aggressive as aggressive as he wants to. I think the delay on the official announcement has to do with possible additions in coaching changes, and maybe even the weekend. But who knows?

Being the current Defensive Coordinator and Offensive Line coach at Zahm Hall, and having coached in the stadium last season (current record in ND stadium 1-0) I'd say with young players you'd want to be aggressive. You always would rather your players made an aggressive mistake than a passive mistake. Since they are young and liable to make mistakes, I would easily chose a more aggressive style, and build their confidence in themselves and their instincts, even if you get burned sometimes.

And add to that the fact that you will have a really good idea of the capability of the defense and the defensive players, if you play more aggressive in general.

I personally hate the "give receivers 10 yards" way of playing. It consistently rips teams apart unless you have flawless personnel that always keep the ball in front of them, make big plays and are sure tacklers.

If your team isn't that, take chances and get in the offenses face.

As many have said, there needs to be a shift from a reactionary defense to an attacking defense. Just because the other team has the ball, doesn't mean you have to wait to see what they are going to do with it.

interesting thought. As USC has 2 NCs under Petey (3rd is debatable), with another in the wings next year, it is possible to have a dynasty in CFB now. I hope it works out and USC and ND get back to ruining each others seasons. I am waiting to see what Brown does becuase we need a lot of help on the d side.

Another thought i had was we all know what Minters scheme was. I dont know anything about Browns scheme. He was db coach and has never been a DC. I am worried a little about that.

I'd rather be unsure about someone's scheme than know that we are going to get blasted for 600 yards every time we play a solid offensive opponent.

I think that Weis made signfiicant progress on offense, but he hasn't arrived. He doesn't have the offense playng lights out, national championship calibre offense yet. When I think back to the Michigan and LSU games, I see that there was equal blame to spread to the offense and the defense.

So would we be a much better team with a better D? Of course. But I still think the offense has more work to do before we are winning titles.
