I dont want to throw him under the bus for just this game, but this was the determining factor in if he kept his job. Horrible play all around for everyone, O and D.

But Boise st played better defense than we did and they have a tenth of the talent.

No they don't, go look at Ty's recruiting. I also don't think this should be a determining factor for Minter. I think he should have been gone reguardless of the outcome of this game. I hate the cover2, it's much too conservative and reactionary for my taste.

We have lost 6 games in 2 years, 5 of them stompings. Right? Even against average teams, the D looks suspect. It always seems as if everyone has a career day against ND. I'm ready to throw him under the bus and back it over him again and again.

Actually, for the record, the D gave up ONLY 583 yds and 41 pts. Did LSU get 580+ yds in any other game? Second half, LSU outgained ND 333-30. That is a total whooping, but no team that gives up 300+ yards IN A HALF will win a game.

The defense's showing in the 2d half had a lot to do with the fact the offense couldn't sustain a drive to save its life. No defense, let alone one that lacks depth like ours, can stay on the field that much and not get hammered.

I was thinking the exact thing last night when they said that two players had career games against us. Get rid of him and bring a 3-4 man-2-man dc.

that's a relevant point that many posters often overlook. we have no backups capable of resting our starters on a defense that already lacks talent in key areas. you could see them running out of gas in the third quarter when the offense kept putting them back on the field.

i'm not sure where i sit on the 'fire minter' bandwagon. i'm not happy with the lack of improvement this year, but the lack of quality depth has been equally disconcerting.

Yeh. LSU had the most yards all season. I find it hard to believe that our defensive talent level is less than Tulane, Mississippi, Fresno State, etc.

I think that something does need to change (in addition to the players).

Yeah, but depth only really hurts you on the DL. Most teams don't rotate at the CB/S or LB positions. So, while we can say that the lack of talent in the Junior and Sophmores classes hurts, I'm not sure that depth is the real issue.

I know the d wasn't very good but the off left them on the field almost the hole second half. you could see in the fourth quarter the lack of depth on the d side of the ball. they got worn down and lsu just ran all over them.It wasn't totally the d fault. the offence didn't do anything the second half. how many dropped balls and tipped pass's can you have. quinn made that one bad throw under pressure where he should have just thrown it away. the other interception was a pass that went off the hands of mcknight. the play calling on the offence in the second half wasn't all that great. Didn't really see too many down the field passes.to many draws and short passes.

first and foremost, it's more than the defensive line. our linebackers were suspect all year long. if travis thomas comes back next year, he won't be playing linebacker.

secondly, lack of depth in one unit of the defense has a direct and immediate impact on other areas of the defense. our starters on the d-line can't get a consistent pass rush, never mind their back ups. the d-line's inability to rush the passer and plug the middle places added pressure on the rest of the defense, forcing them to compensate and often leaving them out of position.

I can see where some would say that the offense did not help out the D in the third quarter. But, LSU also had long drives which kept the offense off the field, and after halftime kept them cold and out of rythmn. The offense thrives on building momentum and gaining a rythmn, its hard to do that if you are sitting on the sidelines for half an hour. How many stops did the D have? I only counted one or two; one stop was the missed field goal, but that can't truly be considered a stop, LSU still drove 80 yards down field. I don't think any offense can do well if they feel they have to score every possession, I think that is why Brady shows "happy feet" a lot of the time. When it was tied, all ND had to do was stop LSU before half, Minter used a prevent formation, and LSU still scored on a huge pass play. How does that happen? The D was out of position the entire game.

Minter needs to go not just because of this game, but for the last two seasons. Depth or no depth, talent or no talent; anyone should go after makinh Hakeem Nicks (and countless other) look like Jerry Rice.

I would love to play for ND on D if I had a chance. I would be a stud on D at ND just like at highschool.
