No. 13 Notre Dame (3-1) at No. 22 Purdue (2-1), 7:45 pm EDT

WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Aiming for its first three-game winning streak over Notre Dame in 36 years, No. 22 Purdue first has to get over a difficult defeat.

The Boilermakers face a strong challenge in their final non-conference matchup of the season when they host the 13th-ranked Fighting Irish on Saturday.

Purdue (2-1) opened Big Ten Conference play last weekend with a 42-35 setback in double overtime at Minnesota.

The Boilermakers rallied from a 17-7 deficit to take a 28-20 lead before the Golden Gophers scored a touchdown and had a successful two-point conversion with 1:34 left in regulation. After the teams traded touchdowns in overtime, Gary Russell scored a rushing touchdown for Minnesota and Brandon Kirsch's fourth-down pass to Charles Davis fell incomplete for Purdue, ending the contest.

Purdue entered the contest leading the nation in rushing defense but surrendered 301 yards on the ground to Minnesota, the country's top rushing offense.

The Boilermakers have won the last two meetings with the Irish, including a 41-16 rout in South Bend last year, but have not won three straight games in
the series since 1967-69.

Notre Dame is 49-25-2 all-time in the series, including 30-18 since they started playing for the Shillelagh Trophy in 1957.

Notre Dame (3-1) bounced back from a 44-41 overtime setback vs. Michigan State on September 17 with a 36-17 road win over Washington and former coach Tyrone Willingham last Saturday.

Brady Quinn completed 25-of-37 passes for 327 yards and a touchdown and has thrown for 1,181 yards and 10 TDs with just two interceptions through four games.

This is impressive watching this offense when it is clicking like it is right now. Just keep throwing the ball until they can prove that they can stop em.

Don't just go into a shell here before half, stick it in and finish them off.

"Wyoming. Beautiful state, but man it does blow."

Anybody else catch that? Sounds bad out of context...

Anyone on defense feel like making a play on this drive?

That's okay, as long as the O keeps scoring like they are, we can forgive a little lapse on the defensive side of the ball, just don't go into a shell, but I forgot this is Charlie Weis, aint gonna happen. Love me some Charlie Weis.

WOW Richardson made a play! Way to go. He reminds me of Otis Smith of the Jets. Always getting picked on and burned, but sometimes makes a big play.

This was the most impressive thing I've seen out of the Irish in long time.

Quinn keeps getting better. He threw 5 incomplete passes all night (2 were dropped and one was a throw away).

Samardzjia is quickly become the best wide out on the team.

The defense is, as always, a question mark. But good performance tonight.

The special teams played well. Kickoff coverage improved and blocked field goal.

A complete game. Ya gotta love it.

Bring on the Trojans.

The loss was the biggest by the 22nd-ranked Boilermakers since losing 31-3 at Michigan in 2003. Purdue fell to 12-27 against ranked opponents under ninth-year coach Joe Tiller.

This is from ESPN.

I love it...I can't stand Purdue.

Now that you mention it, that does seem a really apt comparison...

Jiggafini's Nuggetts:

1. My latest and most used quote while watching ND; "I love this offense!!" For every beer I consume, I usually say it three times. Incredible. Everyone gets touches...recruits have to love it. They run the same plays out of 6 or 7 formations. You don't know what's coming.

2. NOW we can ramble about Brady Quinn and Heisman in the same sentence. In regards to that thread, I have eaten my crow. I think he's got a shot at this.

3. This offense runs with tremendous efficiency. They ARE the Wee Patriots. Simply amazing. Organized, methodic, chain moving machine.

4. Travis Thomas gets me thinking that maybe ND could have a two pronged attack. And when Aldridge is here next year...look out. He uses his playing time wisely.

5. Rashon Powers Neal, your table is ready, Sir. I told all of you in July that he could be the first fullback selected in April's draft. This guy is the real deal. I think he's "out of the doghouse" if he was the player in question. I liked seeing Schwapp in there as an extra goal line blocker on RPN's second TD.

6. Just one more thing....WE'RE BAAAAAAAAACK!!!! Praise Saint Charles Weis.

Bring on the Condoms of Southern Cal.

lol I love Nuggetts

I think the USC game will be huge for Heisman implications. It is a perfect time for Brady to really step into the spotlight while Bush/Leinart could also rise/fall in the race.
