Mary Magdalen could be his Assistant Head Coach, but the School would just deny it and spend the next 2 thousand years downplaying her role on the Coaching staff.

Minter or Bill Lewis has to go. I dont know which one is more responsible for our awful pass defense...but we wont beat Middle Tennessee State if we dont fix our secondary...

I say that you have to stay with this coaching staff until they get they're players into the system. I say give them at least 2 more years. Everyone knows that the best way to have a good defense or a good offense is to get the players that the coach feels fits his scheme best. It is much easier to build a defense and then find players to fit that defense than already have players a build defense around that talent.

Bo Pelini, LSU Defensive Coordinator
He'd be worth every penny they pay him. NFL coaching background. Missed CW by a year in New England.[/quote]

His name is being mentioned for the ASU position. Do you think he'd pass up a head coach job to stay as defensive coordinator?

I would take Randy Shannon (DC from Miami) over Minter. I'm not sure if he's up for any head coaching positions but I think that he could do wonders with kids who aren't thugs.

He would not pass up ASU.

Nor any major D1 school for that matter.

A lateral move when you have an opportunity to coach a solid/decent D1 school is foolish.

I agree...contingent upon the fact that they continue to post winning records. Ty was losing and sucking wind... Weis is "disappointing" people with only 19 wins in 24 tries. ;)

Wow an .800 win/loss record. FIRE HIM!!! hahahahahahaha ;)

I will take .800 while we are getting better players.

GOD WHAT A DIFFERENCE A COACH MAKES!!!

Go get Chuck Amato and buy him a pair of green shoes. He had great D at FSU and NCS.I don't know if I am serious. Our D has not been very good for years. Is it the coaching, players or both? If we get the players the coaching will look alot better in a hurry.

Kind of like they do with Faust?

Very nice !

Nice. Scoop is like Bernard King...Automatic.

I always love (hate?) Bernard King references. One of the great all time Celtic killers.
Along with:
Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson (Detroit Pistons)
Andrew Toney (Philadelphia 76ers)
Some guy named Magic somethin' (I forget who he played for)
And Michael someone (I think he played for the Chicago Bulls)

Now....what were we talkin' about?

Probably not.

Jersey, Coach Partridge is going to be a star in the college football coaching ranks sooner than later. His tactics in regards to recruiting are as good as it gets for an assistant coach. Coach Harris hired him before leaving for Stanford and he chose not to go out west with him, yet Wannstedt retained him. That is one move Wannstedt made that was actually a good one.

Scott Shafer, Defensive Coordinator Western Michigan
Recruits south Florida, also a native of Ohio. WMU's defensive unit was one of the best in America statistically. They picked off 22 passes this year as a team.

Pelini probably will return

Second-year LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini said there is a good chance he’ll be back with the Tigers next season.

“There are still some things out there right now that I’m not real interested in,” Pelini said Tuesday when asked about job possibilities away from LSU.

Since early November, Pelini has been linked to several job openings. Most of the jobs were filled days or weeks ago.

LSU coach Les Miles said he knows several staffers are in line for possible job offers and said that’s to be expected when a program has the success LSU has had the last few seasons.

Pelini acknowledged the calls have slowed, but he still hears his name mentioned for jobs.

“That’s just part of it,” he said by telephone. “I don’t concern myself with it. There’s always speculation and phone calls.

“I’m in a place where I can be pretty selective, and I’m going to do that and look for the right job. That hasn’t come up yet, and it doesn’t like look this year that right job is out there for me.”

Pelini said he’s preparing for the Sugar Bowl.

I don't think that it would be fair to replace ANY of our coaches at this point. Every coach needs to be given at least 3 years. So what would I do?

I would lay the expectation with Minter that we need to see iimmediate mprovement on his side fo the ball.

On the offensive side of the ball, I would set the expectation with Latina that our OL better be able to open holes on 3rd and short and that we need to be able to run the ball more effectively/consistently.

Those are the only 2 coaches that I would put on the hot seat. But in fairness, you can't abandon anyone just yet. They are coaching Ty's guys.

How can we accurately judge the defense moving forward? We have gotten alot more talent through recruiting. Doesnt it make sense that we would improve on the defensive side of the ball?

If we havent gotten anything out of average talent, how can we be sure that they are effectively utilizing elite talent?

We'll know by what we see on the field. If in 2 years we aren't a top 10 defense after having top 10 classes, we will know. We will also be able to see by the level of play on the field.

I still think Rutgers' DC is a young energetic guy that has done a great job in NJ with Greggy S.

It's difficult to judge improvement for our team. Until depth issues are resolved, judgment should be withheld, or at least adjusted accordingly.

Regardless, some stats are needed in order to evaluate the past two seasons. By the end of the season, you will get more accurate numbers that reflect a similar amount of offensive plays. There is a difference in the amount of plays the opposing offenses ran against ND, at the moment, despite playing the same amount of games so far. The difference is 77 plays and this difference should be made-up by the bowl game.

Nothing terribly stands out beyond the statistical improvement compared to the other teams. We moved up 32 spots numerically in the rankings, however the difference in statistics in vital categories is minuscule.

Our rushing defense improved, allowing less yards per carry, less TDs in more offensive running plays. The difference in the amount of plays ran is somewhat negligible, so you can judge that our run defense improved believe it or not.

As we are all aware, our pass defense remains squalid. We didn't improve in any noticeable category, allowed better completion percentage, more touchdowns, less interceptions and a better QB rating this year. A bright spot in our passing defense, if you can call it that, was 2 out of the three best QB performances against ND this year were Air Force and UNC. Against Air Force and UNC this makes sense, since we were more focused on stopping the run.

Opponent first down statistics were less, but that is to be expected due to difference in number of plays being run against us. The LSU game will help us to understand this better.

Finally, our Yards Per Play decreased, but not by much. This needs to get much lower, less than 5.0.

If you sort statistics in the country by Yards Per Play for defense, you see a who's who of top defenses, such as LSU, Virginia Tech, Texas, and so forth.

I guess my overall point is, was there an improvement? Yes.

Is it good enough? Much more difficult to answer. Based on the personnel we have, the lack of depth, I would say, "maybe". The answer is never definitely yes, it is good enough, but no is too certain.

Please give our Defense time. I can only imagine all the talk before my post I don't even need to read back. We have a young defense, give them time.
