Help! What happened to the recruiting profiles?

When will the fact that we have at least 25 posts go into effect and allow us to view the recruiting profiles?

Don't panic... they're still there!

After discussing with some of the IrishEnvy.com staff, we've disabled recruiting profiles for users that have not been registered for at least 7 days and that have not made at least 25 posts on the site.

We're trying to get more user contribution on the forums from our members as only 180 of nearly 2700 (6.7%) members have made 25 or more posts. The average contribution rate on most discussion forums is 20-33% of the registered members, so we think it is a fair exchange for all the work everyone puts into them.

If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a private message.

25 mandatory posts by 2500 posters who prefer not to post = 62500 mostly BS posts by the look of this thread. How about sparing people having to read the mandatory qualifiying "filler" posts by creating a thread entitled, "POST YOUR 25 QUALIFYING POSTS HERE."

You'll generate hits on the board for a brief period. Then the lurkers go back to lurking becuase they chose to. Until the next mandatory posting session. Think about.

You want to stimulate dialog not stimulate 2000 posters typing "Great Post!" after 25 posts so they fulfill their obligation.

It seems it would make more sense to determine why this board generates only 6.7% "active participation" rather than "the average contribution rate on most discussion forums is 20-33% of the registered members". Considering the BS that appears on many boards I'm curious why you want to ditch the "mature, intelligent discussion" for the flame wars, "ditto" posts, and such rhetoric that are standard fare on those boards. Many people left those boards for IrishEnvy to avoid that trash.

You established a culture with this board. Are mandatory posts consistent with that culture?

I guess I'm one of those "obligation posters" you speak of. To be honest, I don't have the time to be a "heavy" contributor to the board - but I do appreciate everyones opinions and general info. on ND recruiting/etc. It keeps me informed and gives me an escape from the daily struggles of life in general.

I also believe in the mature and intelligent discussion at IrishEnvy and I have tried my best to post intelligently and not clutter the threads.

I hope that for the people who are newer members and/or do not have 1,000,000+ posts, are not alienated by the regulars when they want to share in a discussion.

I've admittedly been a sporadic poster since I joined earlier this year. I've never felt that I've been judged by a low post count, and anything you contribute will be appreciated if it is informative, well thought out, or clever. As a whole, this board is good because it is not filled with posters that make over-simplified statements, are argumentative, or bash recruits that happen to decide that Notre Dame is not the school for them. As long as people aren't one of these types and don't post just for the sake of posting, I'm sure this group will continue to be more than welcoming.

A lot of people don't have the time. A set number of mandatory posts would necessitate a lot of those people to "force" posts to comply. I'd rather see them post a one liner of substance rather than just post to meet minimum membership requirements.

In a live discussion group (in person) not everybody speaks up, some do, some soak up the conversation. Sometimes you have something to say. Sometimes you don't. Some add quality while others add quantity (check my post total). Those that just shout, "So and so sucks" over and over again in a live conversation usually find themselves outside the conversation.

We were all new posters here at one time or another. If you make a point here some may agree with you strongly, some may disagree with you strongly, some may ignore you (Ignore Poster is User Function). Kind of like families without the disfunction.

It isn't points... it's contributing the boards. We've got way too many lurkers (those members that just read and don't post) and we're looking to get more people involved!

I am definitely guilty of being one of those lurkers. I used to post on a regular basis, but have been absent from posting for a while. I need to get back in good graces with the board because the recruiting info is great.

yeah, so i think i said it somewhere else, but the signal to noise ratio is quickly going down. there are threads posted about recruits outside the recruiting board just because people can't see. There was a thread where 5 people in a row stated something to the effect of "Chris Donald is good. I hope he comes to Notre Dame." I mean, there's still intelligent conversation going on, but it's a bit harder to find.

look, i was new here very recently. i wanted to contribute, so i contributed. i think what we're seeing now is the people that don't really have the impetus to contribute trying to, but coming up short. not saying that all of the new posters are, not at all. but there seems to be a lot more chaff simply because people don't have anything to say, but they're forced to say something.

I don't know...

I don't mind posting once in awhile, but I don't ever have any new info to share. There are no D1 prospects in my state to talk about. I know no alum, nor do I know anyone associated with ND at all. I feel like I want to have something important to say if I post but my thoughts have usually already been stated. That's why people lurk. You're always going to have them.

Oh well. Just my $.02.

I've contributed a few times so far, probably about 3 or so I believe. If I can't see the recruiting profiles how am I supposed to contribute then?

So how long after you hit the 25 do you regain access to the recrutiing profiles?

Another day over 25 posts, another day of not being able to view the recruiting profiles {sigh}

I'd suggest sending a PM (private Message, look in the upper right corner of your screen) to the Board Administrator, Svoboda.

If that doesn't get you an answer, I'd suggest a new thread (topic) in this forum entitled something like, "HELP! I've got 35 posts and still can't see the Recruiting Profiles" than give details in the message box.

Good luck.
