Loy mentioned him as one to watch and was trying to see him on his trip out west. He's on ND's radar and had an offer from Sanford and Boise St.

Big boy's got wheels. Actually looks taller than 6-3 on tape.

Hope he decides to transfer to one of the Catholic heavy's in his area. Glendora doesn't play a very good schedule, by that I mean good for this metro area. I'm sure he played against a lot of D1 talent. Would be able to get a better feel if he was in the Mission League.

Wiltfong mentioned him in a piece today as a guy that could quickly climb the QB board.

Everything about this kid sounds eerily similar to a former commit of ours.

My friend is a teacher at Glendora High School, so I texted him and asked. He actually had Matt in class.

"Had him in class, super kid, phenomenal athlete, could play receiver if QB didn't work out. Tough...not your typical Glendora kid - he's from Rancho. ND was interested, but never offered. I'm told this offer is all Sanford, who was all over him at Boise State."

For those not familiar, Glendora is a wealthier suburb, not known for their football program. Used to be a big basketball school as their coach would recruit kids from out of the area (like Pasadena) to star there (if you follow basketball, Tracy and Cameron Murray of UCLA went there), and baseball was big too. So when he says "not typical Glendora kid", he's implying those kids are usually too soft/babied to be big time football players. You'd have to see it to understand what he's saying - it's crazy what money does to SOME of these people out in SoCal; you get some pampered spoiled kids in the suburbs, especially in Orange County. Anyway, Rancho Cucamonga is further east and they have been producing some fantastic, tougher athletes out in the Inland Empire (which, coincidentally, is where Blake Barnett is from).

Tougher athletes in the IE? Centennial is the only team in Riverside that competes with the top 10 in OC. I don't follow that logic. The broad stroke of Orange Co being rich and soft is a TV stereo type. I would not want to live in any part of OC north of Irvine... I was born in Gary, IN, I have no desire to live in Santa Ana which is OC's version of GI.

I would be thrilled in Fink transferred to Amat for his senior year then we could get an idea what he's made of after a season in the Mission League.

So now using the word SOME (even capitalized in my OP because I knew you would take it the wrong way) is a "broad generalization"? I don't follow that logic.

SOME kids are soft everywhere. Why single out OC? There are just as many soft kids from well to do families up in the valley.

The school Orange Lutheran came to mind. Check out their history with athletes they've sent to ND. Not a good history. Plus, I was born and raised in the OC, and I have family out there, so that's what I know. Shit, my nephews and their friends were the type of kids I was talking about.

And FWIW, I said "tougher", not better or more athletic or more disciplined or any of the stuff that also make up top 25 teams. I've spent time coaching in both areas (basketball though), and the toughness wasn't even close with the athletes I coached.

You're from here and coach basketball so I won't argue with you anymore.

Where do you coach now? I used to dabble in that arena.

Not to bog down the thread, but real quick I coached boys and girls HS basketball (but my most success was with girls) for years, interviewed and got offered a low-level asst job at UC Irvine and almost made the plunge to try and become a college-level coach and live a life of a nomad. But I also met my wife that year, and my life goals changed and I quit coaching hs sports shortly thereafter.

Now I coach middle school basketball and soccer just to keep the juices flowing. Way less time commitment (2.5 months) , which is what I need with 2 little ones.

Back to Matt...he's not #1 on the board but he's a viable option at this point.

i dunno you guys i watched many episodes of The O.C. and it was obvious Sandy Cohen had that lunch pail/rise and grind mentality when it came to his legal practice. The stereotypes are just never true.

There was a lot of talk of ND skipping last year and then Wimbush came along. You'd think this year would be the perfect year to skip a QB being that MZ has 3 years and your current #3 All American has all 5. That would push this year's take out to...wait for it...2020 (jeez it's tough to grasp that). I say always take a QB but when the cupboard is full, take a guy that has translation to other spots like this year's Cali crop of Fink, Juarez and Modster. Matt Fink obviously has the tools to be a receiver. It sounds like Hunter Johnson is a given in the '17 class. ND almost has to go after him even though I'm all for real DT-QB's with plus arms over pro style QB's. I'll bet the farm ND gets a good DT-QB this cycle and that he plays another position while in South Bend.
