has the language taken a decidedly southward turn the last few weeks on this forum?

I'm not a prude (far from it), but I also don't know what calling folks f**kheads, a**holes, and the like is adding to the discussions, especially when we are addressing each other.

Am I alone in finding this a bit distracting and unbecoming on a site for "mature, intelligent discussion" of Notre Dame athletics?

Not calling anyone those names by all means TexasDomer and I hardly EVER swear. I WAS calling Rick Minter a few choice words but that the beauty about free speech.

If you come across a post that is questionable then REPORT IT. I do not have time to read each and every post and neither do the few moderators. The feature is there for you to use, so please do so.

We stay pretty classy here, but frustrations after Saturday's game and the end of the season can certainly be cause for some choice words. We were hoping for a heisman and national championship, instead, we won't have either and we lose to SC...again.

If ever there was a time for curse words, now would be it. FUSC!

yeah I think those who take it there, for the most part, act out of frustration after hard loses... excusable? up to the beholder I guess, I just let it go... heck, I too have dropped some language here, but never in another person's direction... but Svo is right, if you are offended, report it...

Actually, free speech doesn't apply here. This isn't a public forum. It's Svoboda's. People misunderstand that all the time in chatrooms and message boards. Site administrators and owners decide what is allowed. Not the constitution.

Let's establish a man rule around this....

The F bomb can only be thrown in either general disgust or if referring to us being F'ed by the refs. It can never be thrown at another person.

Good point. FWIW, the First Amendment is about what the government can do (or cannot do) to restrict free expression.

I like the idea of a "Man Law" to self-govern ourselves on the forum, Chi. How about adapting the NY Times rule? If you don't want a particular phrase associated with this forum or Notre Dame in an article on the front page of the the New York Times, don't write it down.

If it would bring embarrassment to you, ND fans in general or the university to have something you write here published broadly, then don't write it at all. Who knows if recruits lurk on these forums. Who knows if opposing fans do. Players. Parents of players. And so on.

TexasDomer: I agree with you 100% that the board language has taken a pronounced drop in the last several weeks. Sure it's due to frustration and high expectations for our team...but imo, that's no excuse for crude language being expressed here. Do these posters realize that children read IrishEnvy? If being a prude means I don't appreciate this language, then I'm pleased to be called such!

It's a very good point... I am so used to MY perspective that I tend to think there is nothing but Adult Male Irish fans here... as someone who works with children I wouldn't want my kids here at times... we should all try to watch it...
