Shut up, you pole-dancing troll. Nobody cares about your "congratualtions."

Keep whining and showing your lack of class and maturity.

Congrats to the Buckeyes. Hope ND is in this position next year.

This goes to show what a reasonable schedule, elite coaching, and no serious depth issues can do for a team.

That's sort of the shame of it. Big Ten teams try to game a run for the title by playing MAC teams, because they already know that conference quality is so weak. If they can get in, they can get hot and win it. That's kind of galling, if you want to reward teams for playing a decent schedule. No question Ohio State didn't deserve the fourth spot.

I mean kind of, but you could say the same thing about Oregon or Oklahoma or TCU or Texas or FSU or a few other teams depending on how you define "elite" coaching. There's a formula for having national championship potential, but a lot of things went Ohio State's way this year.

Yeah, you are such a classy troll. I'm sure Urban Meyer was scanning his iPhone, waiting for you to show up on the Notre Dame fan page to pass along your worthless, phony "congratulations." What a transparent troll.

Lol? What? god I hate Bama fans.

SEC fans have too much arrogance, but that comes with lots of winning also. Glad to see their conference failed to do anything relevant this year. I hope this starts a streak of championships outside the SEC.

Oregon, Texas, and FSU do not have elite coaching IMO.

OSU had a lot of breaks this year, but part of that is due to the schedule. They didn't play a tough team until November 8th. That gives Urban a lot of time to figure out his team and get them playing at an elite level.

Super frustrating that ND could EASILY schedule themselves to ten win seasons and get an elite coach but just refuse to do so...

Just because I show class in congratulating the champs doesn't mean I am a troll. It shows that some ND fans have class, even though would rather whine like a 6 year old who had their toy taken away. You are being a butt-hurt whiny bitch just because your team didn't win, and you represent the type of fan that embarrasses ND and that I cannot personally stand.

This is it. I hate them and him, but he's a good coach. He so far outcoached Oregon's coach tonight, it was nearly scandalous.

Alabama won't be favorited over the team that beat them with a bunch of underclassmen.

They beat us so I have no issues with them being favorites going in. But overwhelming favorites? Not hardly. We will be in the hunt once again as well. As will some other teams. I hope we get another shot at the Buckeyes. Would be a good one.

Given the administration's views on academics over football, ND is always going to have a hill to climb. I appreciate the views of the university but it sucks knowing the deck is stacked against us every year by programs that couldn't give a rat's ass about grades or graduation rates.

Why hate? I simply think we will have another shot to be there again next year. Kudos to the Buckeyes for beating us and winning it all. I take nothing away from them but they won't be overwhelming favorites to win it all next year. Several teams will be in the thick of it as well.

Hey, I guess I was wrong. Urban just paused in the middle of his interview and thanked you for passing along your congratulations.

Saban or Meyer has won 6 of the past 9 national championships. And a transcendent college player (Cam and Jameis) led his team to a championship in two of the three times they didn't win it.

Just goes to show that if you have an elite coach you will be in a position to win a Natty. Kelly is a great coach, but he just can't compare to Saban or Meyer.

Let's not forget that Meyer had Tim Tebow, and once he left that team crumbled. Seems like Meyer has finally solved that issue. It's up to Kelly to do what he supposed to be "great" at and develop a goddamn QB.

So there are only two elite coaches in the country and you're miffed we don't have one?

They would if concessions were given but that ain't happening.

True. As an alumnus, I've thought about it a lot - whether I'd be ok with ND lowering recruiting academic standards, possibly do some shady things in the recruiting world, let our players get away with more, give them more joke classes (don't kid yourself with the Film and TV major), etc. While I was a student, especially after going 3-9, I'd say definitely. Now, I'm more hesitant. The thing is, we're already in the headlines every offseason for something terrible (can't wait to see what it is this year), so would NCAA investigations, etc. be that much worse? Who knows, maybe if the school had given Urban what they gave to Kelly (training table, turf field, etc.) or more importantly, if Jack Swarbrick had been in charge of the coaching search after Willingham, he probably would have come here and won a championship or two.

Kelly was also supposed to run a fast-paced, no huddle, shotgun spread that put up crazy points and he certainly hasn't done that.

I know this isn't a popular opinion but I really really don't think QB was our problem this year. Ohio State just shrugged off a 4-turnover game like it was nothing.

Because they were that much more physically superior than Oregon. Unfortunately, you can't count on that.

You can hire an elite coach before he is a known commodity (like when Florida hired Urban Meyer). Florida knew they were getting a good coach, but they almost certainly didn't realize they were getting an all-time great.

I think Kelly is a good coach and we are lucky to have him. Maybe he is the guy that can get us to the promised land, but I personally have my doubts. I think ND will just have to wait until we get lucky with an Urban to Florida type hire of an elite up and comer.

I'm really not complaining about it, nor am I upset with the current state of ND football. Just trying to objectively assess the characteristics of most championship teams.

Mainly what I'm getting at. Kelly better have ELITE play at QB next year. Not just good, ELITE. A make up for the last 5 seasons of mediocrity at that position. There is absolutely no reason we should be at this point in year 5 without a good year from a QB.

2010: Crist was average, got hurt, Rees came in was average, but the defense and running game stepped up.

2011: Crist sucked for a half, Rees comes in and is average with a ton of turnovers.

2012: Golson is average, then starts to improve to pretty good.

2013: Rees is average with one of the worst accuracy ratings in the country that year.

2014: Golson great yards and TD's but an ungodly amount of turnovers that not even Rees could replicate.

Unbelievable. This, along with the continued incompetence of the Bears has my blood pressure sky-rocketing.
