Agreed. I think a thread where we follow ND alumni as they coach is worthwhile but it should not be framed like this.

By that criteria, Charlie Weis was ND's Harbaugh. (not a player, I know, but at the time we hired him he was the best credentialed coach in the industry with a Notre Dame degree). Harbaugh's don't always work out.

True, but Charlie had never coached in the collegiate ranks. He was a GA for South Carolina (ironically on the defensive side) before going to HS and then to the pros. Jimmy has succeeded in the collegiate ranks, and helped build a Stanford program that was among the worst in college football.
