All got damn year players been blowing by us. Teams are getting faster and we are stuck in the mud. To give up 40 points in a big game is unaccetpable, I don't give a fawk who the coach is. No one getting a free pass on this one. Charlie get off your fat ass and correct this shit. Get some speed, fire Minters, play in a BCS Bowl and beat USC. That's your agenda next year. If that can't be done then your ass can go too.

I'm sorry but you're an idiot. And if you think ND is going to a BSC bowl next year and beat SC your even a bigger idiot.

I agree with the getting more speed thing because Notre Dame has ALWAYS been slow compared to the big boys. Plain and simple we just have ZERO speed at all. Now the thing with Charlie Weis; That was just plain harsh. The guy cant help his weight problem with everything he has gone through medical wise, but I do agree that he needs to fire Rick Minter and replace him ASAP!

2007 will be terribly disapointing for every die hard ND fan. The problem is that we are way to senior heavy this year. Next year all key players will be soph. or freshman. We will however, have better atheletes than we have had in well over a decade, so the future looks bright.

you do realize that next year that may be like telling Eastern Michigan to beat the Green Bay Packers or else? The gap between the teams my never be more slanted in SC's direction...

Speed, or no speed, last night they were wide open....we didn't get beat deep that much..ok bruton got torched, but our scheme looked bad to me. We couldn't seem to get any heat on Booty, and their recievers were just simply open. All the speed in the world can't help blowing assignments and turning people free! I am not sure why I was suprised and overly beat down, we have seen this all year. I do feel that our future DBs will be drastically better physically..but if we don't coach them a better technique and scheme, we will be having this issue in 4 years again. I hope and feel pretty confident that our secondary will become a strength for us in a couple of years.

I agree with the last poster. The scheme involved gets a lot of players open. Combine that with SC's speed and the rest is history. The SC recievers were wide open across the middle of the field. Im sorry, but it looked to me that Sam Young could have been running the routes and gotten open. He wouldn't have taken it to the house but you see my point. Our defensive scheme looked horrible last night! If we are going to play the soft zone we all saw, we at least need to send the house and get some freaking pressure on the qb. Booty is fairly immobile, and seems to get rattled when he has someone in his face. A premier team recruits elite offensive lineman, and usually cannot be overrun by a front four. Even with all of SC's talented defensive lineman, Carroll brought linebackers and safeties to help out and ultimately put Quin on the ground too much. Im more of a play to win guy, and would rather blitz the qb if we arn't getting enough pressure. Make him throw a good deep ball. I can live with long touchdowns as long we make it a more difficult throw. Given the talent of Booty and his recievers, I can't stomach watching us being gutted for an entire game. As stated earlier, we need more speed, but enen the fastest teams like SC force the issue. We should be no different!

i think golden maybe best used in the secondary .i dont care if he runs a 4.0 and is the best damn rb on the team he needs to be in the secondary. god i used to think linebacker and dline was the most needed .but at least we have some guys coming in that can fill some spots its back to the drawing board and as always its recruiting we must fall back on. put it this way it can only get better and a couple years ago a 10 win season would have put the blinders on alot of nd fans now its damn it we lost 2 games yea they were to our top 2 rivals and im just sick over it but its a new era at nd and 10 and 2 isnt good enough which is better then an era where 10 and 2 was a pipe dream . to sum it up id say give minter another year but somethings got to give after all the d put us in a position to take the lead in to halftime but no ones has said a damn thing about mckinight droping balls im not going to throw him under the bus cause he came back from a nasty injury and had a great year but you have to be mentaly tough enough to make those catchs.

Miami???? Why don't we throw FSU in there as well; they have lot's of speed....Unfortunately speed isn't helping either of those two teams.

Lambert (especially) and Lambert both have speed. Landri probably has more quickness (more important) on the line, than most DT's. T Thomas, Quinn, etc are fast at LB.

Ted Ginn came into Div1A with tons of SPEED, but many OSU fans would agree that Gonzalez was (and is) their best receiver; Ginn wasn't very effective with all of his SPEED until he learned to CATCH the fucking ball and take a hit.

I guess that Weis has it all wrong....he should be spending his time in Cali checking out the HS track teams. Get the 4 or 5 best guys in the 40 or 100....

our secondary looks poor because of 1) lack of a pass rush and 2) because of a lack of talent and speed. I say its 90% #1. Hard to cover guys like Jarrett and Smith for more than 5 seconds at a time.

on the flip side marv our oline is letting 3 son of a bitching people get a very good pass rush on the QB we have to bring the fucking whole bathroom to get any type of pressure

i follow the U.S. Air Force Academy approach to the solution: we need more black people.

How is it that good defenses just bracket Samardzija out of the game completely but Notre Dame can't cover anyone?

Notre Dame got off to two fast starts that I can think of this year: Penn State and Air Force. Otherwise, they have come out flat against nearly everyone. It is good that the coaches can adjust and the players remain calm, but how about strapping it on BEFORE the first quarter rather than during or after?

Just a reminder: This is the same slow defense that has gone 19-5 and to 2 BCS games. They are not great and have caused us all some frustration but they don't deserve to ripped apart by ND fans like they have been. And "No", the offense didn't win all of those games despite the defense.

I think they got better this year, but many of the same issues still remain.

Again, much like 2005 and not much like Davie or Ty teams. That's a good start.

Now start bringing in difference makers.

Speed should only be a temporary concern. Charlie's bringing in tons of it. You'll notice a huge difference when guys like Walls, McNeil, and Gray take over at the CB positions. The safeties will also get faster... I think Sergio Brown and Jashaad Gaines are pretty quick.. we'll see whether we can bring in Michael Williams.. BOTH defensive ends will be fast.

But here's another thing that shouldn't be overlooked.. the TE position. We seem to be moving toward leaner TEs who can run their routes quickly. Ragone runs a 4.5 and Konrad Reuland looks like he could be pretty quick, too. Those guys can pose more of a threat than Carlson, Freeman, or Fasano did in the open field.

My only real problem is that we don't have a burner at WR yet. George West might be able to fill in that role in time, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Yes, Oglaigh!!

Difference makers on both sides of the ball are needed....and coming.

West and Grimes don't bring what Stovall and Samardzija do....size. Red zone nightmares. Kumara and Little have that. Parris too. Jackson has decent size and speed. Should be a good mix at WR.

Secondary looks good, esp. CB. Herring and Bruton will surprise next year. Sergio Brown has good speed. The line and LB need help. Ryan and Richardson could be starting DE in 2007.

Weis has to stock up to catch up to SC. Like everyone else.

Those dbacks, good as they are, will get killed without a pass rush- which as of now we don't have. We need to step up dline and linebacker (especially linebacker) recruiting. I mean no offense to the young man, but Brockington started at LB for us against SC. That's not good. Nor is Travis Thomas starting there all season. It's embarrassing. Maybe Toryan turns out, maybe not. If so, that's one guy.

And 4 of the 5 losses were to pretty decent teams.

What were they ranked? Is this correct:

SC '05 #1
tOSU 'Jan'06 #3
Um '06 #3
SC '06 #3

That'd be fine if they were close losses. Only one of those was a moral victory. The last three were ass kickings.

None of them were moral victories, they were all losses. However, the team is headed in the right direction.

I would venture to bet that over a LARGE majority of the posters on IRISHENVY are huge Lou Holtz fans. His first two season weren't all that great, record wise, however, it was obvious where the program was headed.

Though I doubt Charlie is going to have as good a third season as Lou.
