Ive read whispers that Romio could get fired from the Browns. Any chance if this does happen that he'd join his old partner in ND? I'd definitely take Shannon from UM though
For one thing, the bend but don't break crap doesn't work against today's offenses.WAS? What happened?
Minter was a great defensive coordinator...and a damn fine HC too.
WAS? What happened?
I honestly think he may be a better HC than coordinator. If that makes any sense. It wasn't great, but he built something out of crap at Cincinnati.
He came to a team with crappy talent.
Talent matters, it's not bullshit.
We have one of the best secondary coaches in the entire business and he could not mold them into something better.
???
we have given up millions of yards to North Carolina and the Academies. They also have "crappy talent"
I understand where you're coming from. I've been one of his supporters all year. But teams with less talent than ND have put up a better fight against USC. And have done a better job slowing down teams like North Carolina. Talent IS part of it when talking about getting over that hump into the top 10. But the defense has played worse than a lot of very poor teams.I don't know guys. When he blitzes half the time noone can get to the quarterback in time and BAM,pass play down field.
kinda hard to coach players who aren't that much faster then minter himself.
he could change a few play calls from time to time, but he knows the talent level he has and tries to compensate for it.
Why do some of you think that notre dame has the best defnsive players in the country?just because they have catchy names?or because they were recruited by willingham?
It is bullshit because talented db's or not it's minter calling the stupid defense not the db coach.

Talent does matter, you can call the right defense every time put if players don't have the physical tools to make plays then what good does you calling the right defense do? Is it his fault that he hasn't adjusted his defensive philosophy to the talent he has to work with matter, yes. But I don't care how good a coach you are the talent you have to work with matters.
Is Minter the best guy Charlie could find? Please tell me his roladex includes great defensive coordinators?
It's definitely a combo of the two. The players in the system aren't top of the line and are very one dimension, that is, if they even have that full one dimension. If they have a bit of speed technique or ability to play the run is lacking and vice versa. However, players don't look prepared and there aren't adjustments being made. The coverage has come a long way, but the middle of the field has been soft all year. There has been very little cohesion. The linebackers don't seem to fuse with what is going on with the d line, nor with the db's.
Though I have taken the lack of talent side for much of the season, I just don't see the effort on Minter's part to warrant another season.
Look what Ron English did with Michigan people. Michigan has descent talent but really it's the same defense as they had last year and we all know how bad Michigan was last year.
