Not sure what I am feeling more… the excitement that Lou., Auburn and possible Cal and Flor. Losses could mean to the once impossible NC title hopes of our Irish… OR more of a feeling of doom knowing that this makes it official, if SC wins out they are in…

yep, I just placed it... it's a feeling of dread...

As much as I would love to see it...We Will not leapfrog the Gators. Hell I am worried we are still going to be behind Louisville.

So where does all of this put the Irish in the BCS rankings?
Somewhere inbetween 5 and 7?

ESPN did a short segment tonight on ND chances and most of the panelist (No Lou and Mark May) said ND has to be considered in the hunt if they knock off USC (if the Trojans run the table up to the ND game). But they said ND should end up in the 6th spot this week and Brady Quinn is right there in the Heisman hunt.

Sounds right. ND moves ahead of Louisville, CAL, and Auburn. UF might lose a couple of points but with 3 Top 10 teams losing I doubt it. SEC supporters may try to bump Arkansas. If UF had lost, a Hog win over the Vols would have made them the standard bearer for the SEC.

And for the first time since UM, I think Quinn has closed the gap. I watche the game at a bar and when the CSTV announcers commented, "Quinn has not thrown a pass in the second quarter", I remarked, "ESPN will turn that around to, "Quinn did NOT complete a pass in the second quarter".

With Louisville, Auburn, and Cal losing today I think that puts Notre Dame around 7th in the BCS. I dont think Louisville will drop below ND but who knows. Louisville will be 6th I think. Also it would help it Texas lost but it apears that theyre going to pull a comeback win.

I don't see how UofL doesn't drop behind us. WVU stayed in the top 10 because they lost to the 5 ranked team in the country at the time. UofL lost to a team ranked in the mid teens. If people are arguing that Rutgers shouldn't go the the BCS Title game because they play no one but then they beat the 3rd ranked team in the country how can you keep UofL ranked in the top 10 after that loss. And its not like UofL was moving the ball all over the place during the game. They got shutdown in the second half, I think that should end all argument that they are in the running for an at-large bid.

Listen, Louisville got blanked in the second half of a game that they were supposed to dominate. There is no way in hell that Louisville will still be ahead of us, with their only key win being against West Virginia. Assuming that Texas loses, I see it being: (BCS)
1. Ohio State 2. Michigan 3. Florida 4. USC 5. Notre Dame 6. Arkansas 7. Rutgers 8. Louisville 9. West Virginia 10. LSU
My oh my........

It's happened too many times where teams ahead of us lose and still stay ahead of us. I'm just being safe in my prediction. I dont want to get too excited and then when I see the polls tomorrow have Louisville still in front of us, it's just happened too many times and I know you guys know where I'm coming from.

Yeah I myself am waiting for the "12 inchs with no lube" from the BCS rankings tomorrow.

The CSTV announcers also commented at the end of the game how BQ, ITO, had pulled even with Smith in the Heisman race.

If that happens, we can expect Ark or UF to lose in the SEC championship game, and drop. I think WVU will beat Rutgers, and possibly lose to Pitt. Top five at the end of the season will be

UM/OSU Winner
SEC Champ
UM/OSU Loser
Big East Champ
ND (if we win out)

Unless Rutgers runs the table I don't see the Big East Champ being ahead of us. The big three of the Big East would all have one loss and all be behind us. WVU's win over Rutgers wouldn't be enough to jump back over us (they were already saying it was iffy that they make the title game as an undefeated) because of the combined strength of schedules. I agree the SEC champ is probably number two, unless LSU beats Arkansas then wins the title game. So I think ND would finish fourth. Depending on the margin of victory in the OSU/Mich game and our margin of victory against USC, we could sneak into the title game if everything goes our way. So basically we need LSU to beat Arkansas, LSU to win the tie breaker between themselves and Arkansas, beat UF in the SEC title game. WVU beat Rutgers. OSU or Michigan to win that game by a large margin(that way the loser drops more then 2 spots in the polls) and we need to beat USC impressively. Sounds like a lot.

had florida lost, we would have jumped the OSU/Michigan loser IMO, now it's gonna take one then to really pound the other next week - I believe we will stay in front of the Big East winner if we win out.

I think anything can happen after this saturday. I can see LSU beating arkansas, and florida. I'd actually expect that to happen. The convincing win in the OSU/Michigan game is what likely won't take place. Also any win against USC will probably be enough for 'respect', they havn't lost at home in 5 years.

yeah forgot about the 5 year winning streak at home for USC, so basically as long as we win out and all the other things I mention happen we have a shot.

does anyone believe that we DESERVE a shot at the NC? Before this crazy weekend of CFB, I would have said no for sure. Deserving of a BCS bid perhaps, but NC I would have said no. Now, however, I'm not so sure who else deserves a shot at the NC. Part of me wants another crack at either UM or tOSU (that troy smith stares down receivers!), but if ND has not shot at the NC, I would most like to see an undefeated Rutgers get their shot at proving themselves. Who knows when the next time a team like that would go undefeated. They could get beaten handily, but just the off-chance of lowly Rutgers winning an improbably historic nat'l title would be worth that game.

Do we deserve a national title? I guess as much as anyone else with one loss does and I don't plan on feeling bad about it if we get/earn a shot at it. A rematch with Michigan or OSU would be nice because if we could win against either one of those two teams then then our national title would be legitimized. As far as Troy Smith staring down receivers, hell if all my guys were open by 10 yards I woulod stare them down too. Rutgers would be a sweet story and they deserve it as much as the next team if not more.

This morning on ESPN Mark May said the best 1 loss teams were USC, Ark, Fla, and WV. No mention of Notre Dame as always. He said "West Virginia is back". Go figure!
