404 Yards Given up to Air Force!

This defense is getting worse by the week. I know we have some holes regarding talent in positions, but this goes way beyond talent. I don't see ANY improvements on the defense. I really don't see us winning out in SC. I don't see us outscoring them in SC, their defense is better than it was last year.

I think it's time to shake some things up even it it means replacing the DC in the off season. It's the time to do it while we will be in a rebuilding mode next season. Thoughts?

I still maintain that Minter can get the job done at ND once he has the right players in there. It wasn't just the defense that didn't play great today you gotta remember the special teams missed 3 XP's, 2 of which were blocked, and while the defense did give up over 400 yards they also really only allowed 10 points with the starters in to an Air Force team that nearly beat Tennessee in Knoxville.

That's a pretty arrogant statment considering the company your in Mav. But now really, we havent stopped the bottom feeders on offense for the most part. Unless our defense has a stellar day, which they havent all year, it will be a long day and we'll have to rely on USC making mistakes to win.

People keep talking about how "awful" our D is. But I hear "awful" and I think of giving up 40 to 50 points a game. And yet week after week we're holding our opponents in the teens and 20s.

Now, am I entirely happy with that? No. But to say ND's defense is "awful" is way over the top.

There's "unstoppable," there's "awful," and there's a LOT of space in between. We're somewhere in the middle right now.

There's certainly room for criticism, but please, dial back the rhetoric.

Yeah, I'm not happy we gave up over 400 yds, but we won 39-17. That's all that matters. Air Force is one of the top offensive teams in the nation. I take by "horrible" comment in the other thread. They are what they are. Our offense is rounding into form and can probably outscore anybody right now IMO.

I don't remember using any of those adjetives about ND or Tennesee defenses. But there is ALOT of room for critizim. Maybe I'm just emotional right now, but I'm getting tired of watching our team on it's heels. This "bend but don't break" defense mentality just don't suit me. Still looking for the "Nasty" we were promised. While CW is not public, you know he's not happy and I think Minter is in the doghouse right now. We have enough talent on this team to be MUCH better on D.

Look at the clock. They controlled it almost twice as much. Brady out threw Carney by 2 yards... Probably would have been 100, if they didnt hold on to it as long.

Dude you seriously have to look at this objectively. #1. Alot of those yards were accumulated in the 4th quater when we were up 30 points on play action passes. #2. No matter how hard you try, you cannot practice against this offense. It's just impossible to replicate the speed and percision that Navy and Air force bring on game day. They will score on anyone! I mean anyone! #3. Our defense was on the field a better part of 40 plus minutes and gave up alot of yardage in the second half. #4. 27-3 at the half. The defense played just fine.

Maybe, there down 21-7 to Arkansas. I don't know enough about Tenn. personell or DC to make a call. i know he had a pretty good year last year, but let's keep this to the subject of Minter. I could really care less what Tenn does. I got the point, Tenn and ND's defense are rated about the same. Tenn is also going to be a 3 loss team. Maybe I'm being a little knee jerk here, but I don't remember being that impressed w/Minter the first time around.

Stupid factoid from a IT guy. Microsoft couldnt get xbox running on their operating systems,(too much of a resource hog bad sign of poor coding) so they had to put their arch enemy Linux to run them. To a IT guy this is really funny!!

I think that's what bugs me the most. I just don't think the D has been bad enough to justify sacking the DC after only 2 seasons.

Now, if I were Charlie, I would certainly sit down with Minter at the end of the season and have a nice, long chat about improving the D. But calling for his head is premature.

Look, I was watching the game with pretty cool detachment. I have to say most of the yards were junk yards.

All a good recipe for us to surrender a lot of yards, yet win the game. The DBs were gassed at the end of the game.

I've never been real excited about Minter to be honest. Ever since the Boston college debacle in 93.

Well, off topic... but what does this mean?
The xbox and the xbox 360 run on modified windows kernels, hence directx. xboxes aren't running linux out of the box, and can't run linux unless they're modded. I'm actually not sure that they've got a linux kernel up on the 360 yet. (apparently, the ps3 will be able to boot a specific distro, yellow dog for the cell iirc)

I mean, yeah, in my experience, linux (ubuntu in particular) installs have been much less resource intensive than windows. however, xboxes don't run it without modding or software hacks.

People here are really pathetic about not criticizing the home team. Give up. The D is terrible. It's a national consensus opinion. Teams and individual players seem to explode against us. That wideout from Purdue had a career day. The UNC QB had a career day. The Air Force QB (an option QB!) had a career day. Manningham had a career day. How many of these does it take before the people here admit the defense sucks? It's like we're the last people in the country to accept it. It's kind of a generally accepted fact elsewhere.

Also, the defense is not terrible Clotho. How can you say holding a team to 17 points is terrible? People get too caught up in yards in a football game. Yards are not the defining factor of a good defense, points are. The only stat that counts at the end of the game is the score. You very often see the team with less yards winning games. Our defense is not terrible, granted they are not great, but too many of you guys are focusing on the yards we give up rather than the points we give up.
