North Carolina Player Speaks Up

North Carolina linebacker Durell Mapp wasn't too impressed.

'' Brady Quinn is a good quarterback, but they really aren't different from what we see from week to week,'' he said. ''Actually, they are a little slower than most teams in the ACC, however they run a very precise offense. They really do have a good scheme with the way they mix up their play calls.''

Its nice they can say this after losing to us by 19.

Sounds like a pretty fair assessment. A precise offense with good play calling. A good quarterback. Maybe a little slower at the skill positions than other teams.

Hell yeah Brady Quinn is a good quarterback. He is my new Heisman front runner. Troy Smith just plain looked bad today against a creampuff Illinois team. Brady Quinn for Heisman.

Yeah. No problem. Imagine what Charlie will do when he has more to work with. ANd this isn't saying much for the coaching or the QBing in the ACC.

On the sideline personal fouls in the 4th quarter ...
"Honestly to me it looked good, when I left my feet I didn't think he was out-of-bounds. The referees are going to look out for him because he's held to such a high standard being a Heisman candidate. That is that. I thought it was a clean hit. They wanted to call my late hit but nothing else. To me it was a terrible call."

for those of you who watched on TV, what do you think? it looked late to me in the stands, but I didn't have a very good view. and I couldn't see the scuffle at all as far as how it started, etc, etc.

but as for brady getting special status, that's bogus obviously. they call it tight for any QB regardless of how good they are.

and how many personal fouls did UNC end up with? it seemed like a lot of them.

BQ was clearing heading out of bounds, it was a late hit, their gonna call it every time, doesn't matter if its BQ or the QB from Temple, they are gonna call it everytime. My advice to that guy is suck it up and get over it.

I thought it was later than the late hit that ND had on Stanton in the Mich. St. game.

So paraphrasing this contradictory statement:

ND IS SLOWER than the other teams we've played. They run a PRECISE OFFENSE EVERYONE ELSE DOES and they have a REALLY GOOD SCHEME and MIX UP THEIR PLAY CALLS just like everyone else we played. If it wasn't for that we'd have beaten them like the other 7 teams we didn't beat.

I think his assessment is fair. ND is a slower team as opposed to the speed in the ACC and SEC, yet ND's scheme and play calling killed them as it does most teams. I don't know if he was trying to take a shot at us but I think it was a pretty good assessment.

I agree with the slower/scheme/ better play calling assessement but not in his context. His statement is contradictory.

... they really aren't different from what we see from week to week,

That's the operative line.

Have they faced any QB like Quinn?

Have they faced any Receiving Corps like Samardzija, McKnight, Carlson, Walker et al?

Week after week the teams they faces are faster; ND isn't.

ND's has a precise offense; the others don't.

ND has better play calling than the others.

Now throw in ND's defense which ND fans malign. UNC was only in the game because of 3 bigs plays.

How can ND be like the others with those differences?

Why would you say that a team that beat you by 19 was normal and maybe just a little bit better then Furman. I am not a big fan of hearing from college players normally and this is why. they are not sure of what to say and how to be tactful about it.

In terms of the late hit. It was definitely late. Late by CFB standards anyway. If the QB is tucking the ball and heading out of bounds, and he gets a foot out of bounds by a good ouple of feet...even if your hit is a microsecond later, it will get called. He could have let up, and he didn't. PLain as that.

Week in and week out, players from the teams that ND beat say the same thing. Funny how ND whacks them by 20 or more and they still talk shit!

How about this for a better quote you clown: "Oh yeah they look like the other teams we played, and they beat us like the other teams we played"

That's how I feel about scUM's win over ND....all the chants of "overrated" and how bad ND sucks, yet they use it as their marquee win so far? Huh?

We'll if NC players cannot tell the difference between Quinn and QB's in the ACC this would be the first step to explaining why they are 1-8 and really stink.
