For one second assume that Coach Minter is fired/leaves the program following the season. Knowing that Notre Dame pays very handsomely, I'm sure we'd garner a lot of interest from current defensive coordinators currently employed elsewhere.

If that would happen, who would you want to replace him in South Bend?

Why would English leave UM to be a D-Coordinator at another school? I think he might leave if a Head Coaching spot turns up, but otherwise...not gonna happen.

well, i'd like crennel. same background as weis, very good defensive coordinator. however, no way nd would pull him away from the nfl. I mean, if you were going to pull away a head coach from the pros, there are plenty that i'd want more than crennel. also, there are plenty that are going to be more available.

don't think my heart could take the live-by-the-blitz style of tenuta. no way ron english is leaving michigan with the way they're playing this year. wouldn't want bunting. so i guess that leaves us with pelini?

I don't think any of those guys leaves their current job unless it is for a hc position (excluding Bunting).

He shouldn't. But that wasn't the question.

However, if he doesn't think Michigan will lead him to a head coaching position, I think he'd at least listen to a potential offer. He could want a bigger challenge to put his fingerprint on in hopes of getting that major college head coaching gig, or he may desire to make more money while waiting for a head coaching gig... it's been said Notre Dame pays it's assistant coaches better then a lot of head coaches. Additionally, I believe English has a history here at Notre Dame as he served as an assistant coach on Lou Holtz's staff.

Negative.

Also, just because Bunting failed in North Carolina doesn't mean he's not a good coach. He's actually a defensive coach with tons of experience in college, the USFL and the NFL. Additionally, he's been labeled as an excellent recruiter.

Yep, they should. However, that said, several of them have been waiting for quite awhile now to get that head coaching gig... especially Tenuta, who has been rumored to get a top banana gig for 3 years now. I think a high profile opportunity like Notre Dame, where you have a chance to turn around a sub par defense could really springboard a coach.

I'd love to see Romeo Crennel as DC. That guy has is to defense what CW is to offense. While every other guy on that list is impressive, Crennel is head and shoulders above them. His defenses have shut down some of the most potent offenses the NFL has ever seen.

That said I would think that Bill Lewis would become the next DC. The Parcells/Belichick style is to promote from within.

Crennel would take the defensive recruiting to as high a level as the offense. And the man can straight out coach. Who else had Peyton on lock?

Ohio State's Luke Fickell - Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers

I mean, it can't be all McCheaty, right?

Damn you all to hell...Infest our team with the enemy for the betterment of yours...My eyes began to bleed from reading that post.

Yea, I don't like it either. Skunkbear is trying to kill two birds with one stone.

My vote was for "other coach". I'd like to see Ron Rivera from the Bears. That would be the beginning of a great defense at ND. Only problem is that it will never happen.... bur qwe can always dream!!!!

For some reason, I like the idea of Pepper Johnson. He's got the Patriot connection, where he is currently the d-line coach. It would give him the chance to have more responsibility, and I think he'd be wonderful for recruiting.

I always liked Greg Mattison. He had a pretty good track record at ND. Maybe not as the D-Coordinator right away, but maybe as the D-Line coach to help the pass rush. Is he at Florida now?

I still wouldn't mind Bob Davie... he coached some mean defenses at Texas A&M and at Notre Dame. It's too bad he was such a lousy head coach, but as a defensive coordinator I thought he was quite good.

That said, I voted for Romeo. No way "Mr. Footbawh" is leaving his cushy job at ESPNABCUSCOMG.

I don't think we could get anyone on that list besides Bunting. I voted for English because it would kill 2 birds with 1 stone (hurting Michigan as well). I think he's the least likely out of all of them. I would have voted for Tenuta but i thought his name was John.

I want either an NFL cast off or a proven college guy. Pay the hell out of him, screw it. Steal a guy from O$U if we have to. Oklahoma always has a great D and they develop defensive talent pretty well too. I'd look into their staff a little. Probably not paid as high as Pelini either.

All of these guys would make lateral moves with the exception of Bunting and Crennel.

Ron Rivera is very well compensated and his next step is NFL Head Coach.

I'm going with "other" on this one, but I will need some time to think of who. I'm sure Charlie Weis has a short list for each spot on the staff.

If Bowden leaves then I want Mickey Andrews. Also, if Coker gets canned; then Randy Shannon could be a possibility.
