Could you possibly think that because you are in Ohio?

Seriously though, they rank:
1. Florida
2. Texas
3. California

And I say this becaue these states have teh top talent, and many times they play on the same team.

But as far as love of HS football, I think it is Texas hands down.

The GCL schools; St. X, Elder, Moeller, La Salle and then Colerain make Cincinnati a darn good high school football town

Agree with punishment, Ohio at 4.
But the GCL in Cincinnati might be the best league.

Texas, Cali and FL put out the most talent but have more people than Ohio. Pound for pound, Ohio stacks up well. Hof's right. The GCL is as tough as any league. Unfortunately, it is only 4 schools at the big school level. But St. Edwards and St. Ignatius in Cleveland may as well be honorary members as they play the GCL schools often.

Nowhere is HS football bigger than in Texas.

Cincy is very strong... but a lot of talent comes from the north, too, Youngstown, Akron, Cleveland, etc.

Hard to debate that the best football in the country isn't played right here in Southern California... so many of the nation's top school's and so much of the nation's top talent... In terms of straight quality my vote is for So Cal (L.A. to S.D.)

I would go with these states (based on last 5 or 6 years of recruiting)

1. Texas
2. Florida
3. Cal
4. Ohio
5. Louisiana
6. Penn
7. Georgia
8. Oklahoma
9. Bama
10. New Jersey, Virginia, South Carolina (toss up)

There is no possible way that Ohio has more high school football talent or better teams than the state of Florida. Zero.

Florida is incredibly deep with Division I players, I-A and I-AA. California and Texas have an abundance of talent because of their size alone, not to mention a lot of great programs. Ohio is very very good, but they're distant to Florida's talent pool.

Florida is at the top of the list.

This one is kind of a no-brainer.

Florida is deeper, no doubt. And is a deeper recruiting pool. But on the field, the top teams are closer than you think. It took Florida's best overtime to beat Ohio's best this year. Last year, Colerain spanked one of Texas' top teams. I'd argue that Ohio's top teams are better coached than Florida's. Coaching can make a big difference.

And let's not overlook the fact that the best college team in the country is filled mostly with home grown Ohio kids.

Another homer heard from, OH, CA, TX, AL, FL, PA, that Collins kid from A. Samoa (?),

Are you gonna tell you don't live in Ohio, you live in Cincinnati?

I would agree with Ohio at #4. I should have made my list longer, but I just think that most people woudl feel that FL, TX and CA are consensus #1-3.

Yea, I could see this possibly being true. But I though Ohio was like in the top 5 in the US as far as population. I won't be able to confirm this until the next election and I see the states number of electoral votes, but I could have sworn Ohio was in top 5.

Yea, yea, but the best team resides up north. De La Salle. Bring on those Jackrabbits again. But outside of the bay area, Christian Brothers in Sac, and Clovis in Fresno, there's not much else up here.

Most of Ohio actually claims that Cincinnati is actually in KY. ;)

What's the top football state in the country? If you give a lot of weight to high school ball, it has to be Texas, right? The state's high school football has been immortalized in Friday Night Lights -- the book, the film and now the TV show.

It's not Texas? Well then, it has to be Florida, right? No? Hmmm. Maybe California, home of perennial Super 25 power De La Salle? Maybe Georgia? No?

No. According to USA Football, it's Mississippi, winner of the first Governors Cup for football excellence. Among the state's greats: Brett Favre, Archie Manning (does he credit for the family tree that followed?), Jerry Rice, Walter Payton. Today, Mississippi football is in a rebuilding phase after Hurricane Katrina last year, and the NFL is helping with a grant of $1 million.

The criteria: high school football participation, fan interest in college and professional football and the percentage of NCAA Division I-A recruits and NFL players. The famed Wharton business school at the University of Pennsylvania, No. 3 in the U.S. News rankings, helped crunch the numbers.

Georgia was second, Texas sixth, Florida 10th, California 24th.

Thats true. I dated a girl from the nasty nati when I was at OU, and I always was trying to figure out how she had a southern accent.

"Everyone knows that if you study hard, try to be smart, attend private boarding schools in New England and Europe, like windsurfing, yachting, and eating cheese at your family's summer chateau in France, you can do well.
If not...then you "get stuck" playing high school football in places like Florida, Texas, California and Ohio.
And I for one, feel sorry for those poor, stupid bastards."

I did a project in Hamilton some years ago and flew into the Cincinnati Airport (in KY) many times. Until I learned Rt 127 I used to drive from the airport on I-275. Was amazed that I landed in "Cincinnati" yet had to drive through two states to get to Ohio.
