Since the transcript isn't up yet, I'll paraphrase from the Sunday presser:

Q: Last week, you guys won a close one, you fell... This week...
A: Oh, Don't go there. Don't go there! Fool me once, shame on you...
Q: I'm not trying to fool you. But there were a bunch of teams that had close calls. What are your thoughts on where you belong?
A: I noticed. I'm not going there. It's funny how Tom asked me the question and we had a little fun with it, and next thing you know I'm a nationwide whiner. We'll stay away from this one this week.

He also says that ND belongs in the top 10. It's actually probably worth watching, because it's a more friendly exchange than it looks like in text. It's about 3/4s of the way through this weeks sunday presser.

This week's polls are not fair to Nd, and even I know that. But I will say this. Weis burned a lot of bridges with his bellicose, foolish and unnecessary comments last week. The writers and coaches in particular are not going to be bullied into ranking one team higher than the next. Keep in mind that while Weis has only been around college football for a year or so, Tuberville has been in college football a long time. The writers forgave his incidenary remarks, but I don't think they will be as kind to Weis. With USC's loss (and potential loss to Cal), it is not guarenteed by any stretch of the imagination that Nd will be ranked 8th or above in the BCS even if they beat USC. The computers favor Nd now, but the remaining games in Nd's schedule will hurt their computers too since other one loss teams are playing more difficult conference opponents in addition to a possible big game at the end of the year in the conference championships (for those that have them).

8th for a guarantee, 12th to be eligible.. so basically 12th is a gaurantee...

LSU beats tennessee
louisville and west virginia play
auburn will win the west and play florida for the sec
usc beats cal

2 teams right there ranked ahead of notre dame that will lose and 2 teams that could have potentialy passed them in the bcs, that won't

ND beats usc then there are 3 teams that move out.

notre dame will finish 6th in the bcs :king:

I've read 2 differnet stories on this. I have read that both 12 and 14 (both on this site and on other media sites) are the cut-off rankings for BCS consideration. Anyone know which is correct?

Among the new policies instituted for 2006 will be these: 1. There will be five BCS games, rather than four. So ten teams will participate in the BCS, rather than eight. The fifth game will be new BCS National Championship Game, to be in Glendale, Arizona.
2. The Fiesta Bowl committee will host two BCS games: the traditional Fiesta Bowl on January 1, and the BCS National Championship Game on January 8.
3. The Fiesta Bowl will move from its longtime home at Arizona State University's Sun Devil Stadium to the new stadium in Glendale. The Sugar Bowl will return home to New Orleans.
4. In addition to the champions of the six conferences that have annual automatic access, one other conference champion will earn an automatic BCS bid if (1) it finishes in the top 12 in the BCS standings or if (2) it is finishes in the top 16 in the BCS standings and its ranking is higher than that of a conference champion that has an annual automatic berth. Previously, such a champion was eligible if it finished in the top six.
5. Notre Dame will automatically qualify for a BCS berth if it finishes in the top eight in the BCS standings. Previously, Notre Dame qualified if it (1) finished in the top six or (2) either finished in the top ten or won nine or more games and a team from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference, the Mountain West Conference, the Sun Belt Conference or the Western Athletic Conference finished in the top six of the BCS standings.
6. A team is eligible to be considered for an at-large berth in the BCS if it has won at least nine regular-season games and finishes in the top 14 in the final BCS standings. Previously, teams finishing in the top 12 were eligible.

Synopsis: Notre Dame gets an automatic bid if in the top 8 BCS. They get an at-large bid if they've won 9 games and finish in the top 14 BCS.

The 12 probably comes from the rules regarding non-BCS-conference champions. They get an automatic bid if within the top 12 BCS, or if they are within the top 16 BCS and ranked higher than a BCS-conference champion.

vv, you dissappoint me. That mostly makes sense. I don't think Weis was trying to bully anyone with his comments. I think he was just honestly answering a question.

Everyone that criticized or made any comment about what CW said last week, should reading the fuking transcript. It was completely taken out of context. He asked for someone to explain one simple scenario involving ND and Tennessee, their respective games, and how it effected their ranking. Buy a clue.

He never said ND was better than Tennessee, he just said the way the ranking changed from week to week didn't makes sense. And it didn't.

98% of the people that wrote an article about it, had no idea of the context.
