I actually don't have a problem with the title of the thread. The rioting they did was wrong........ period. Making the excuse that they were angry over the perceived injustice doesn't make it ok for them to riot. So if someone wants to hold their feet to the fire, ok. I don't advocate forgetting about the victim, either, though. The thing is, the rioting was unfolding live, and there was plenty of new stuff to talk about. As for the cops talking shit about the victim: I don't see it that way. I think that the MEDIA has twisted it into a shit talking firestorm. One of the reporters asked, in a very accusatory tone, the Police Chief why they chose to wait until that day, to release the video from the convenience store. The Chief looked him straight in the eye and said, "Because you guys filed a Sunshine Law request for it." There was dead silence from the reporter. But, not 30 seconds later, I saw CNN reporters carry on a 3.5 minute conversation about the possible motivation for the timing of the release of the videotape. If you ask me, we have less of a problem with race relations in this country, than we do have a problem with people sucking up drama like it is the very lifeblood of their existence. There is a reason that TV news has become all about manufacturing drama wherever it can; that's because it gets ratings! Because people have become so shallow that they consider drama to be intellectual conversation.
