Family Mourns, No facts about the slaying are released.

Perhaps I should provide a list of victims of crimes being treated worse than perpetrators of crimes in the news media.

You guys could figure out if there's a pattern re: their socio-economic status or ethnicity.

What do you think that kid looks like?

o-VICTIM-7-570.jpg

How bout that one?

Come on guys.. it's not hard. The first one killed three people in a school. The second was shot dead with no investigation at all and treated like an asshole after death.

Go ahead. Game on.

I suppose reps and Vbucks.

I'll give you both. I just think it's disgusting that's theres a "RIOTS IN ST.LOUIS" thread on the front page of our board, and nothing about the kid who was shot dead.

So far, NDRock is the only winner. I'll try again. Maybe the last one was hard.

Could be because he's the only one playing. :whoknows:

That's OK.

Somebody's taking down all the cash! Plus: We're keeping this bumped above the jerky 'Riots in St. Louis' thread for a while. We need some balance, right?

Have you looked at it, this morning? Its actually a pretty calm, rational discussion going on now. How are you ever going to understand anyone else's viewpoint, if you stop listening to it? Civilized disagreement is a great thing, if you use it as a tool to better understand the people(and, therefore, the world) around you.

Amen, brother.

I've been at work all week, unable to log-in to IE, and reading the crappola that's being posted.

Most screwed up in my eyes is the banner that's been on top of the board. It's really made me angry. I think we should praise the community in Ferguson, and some of their leaders (as well as some of our national reps) for calming the situation down.

"Riots in St. Louis" is exactly what the anger is about. One of their community gets gunned down, no info is released for DAYS, then they talk shit about the victim. This goes on every. single. day. in communities that don't have the money to defend themselves in the public eye.

They're pissed. I'm shocked it hasn't got worse already. If we don't wake up and see that there are two types of Americas, we're in for a rude/violent morning one of these days. What's more? Nobody should blame them, or act like they didn't see it coming.

I actually don't have a problem with the title of the thread. The rioting they did was wrong........ period. Making the excuse that they were angry over the perceived injustice doesn't make it ok for them to riot. So if someone wants to hold their feet to the fire, ok. I don't advocate forgetting about the victim, either, though. The thing is, the rioting was unfolding live, and there was plenty of new stuff to talk about. As for the cops talking shit about the victim: I don't see it that way. I think that the MEDIA has twisted it into a shit talking firestorm. One of the reporters asked, in a very accusatory tone, the Police Chief why they chose to wait until that day, to release the video from the convenience store. The Chief looked him straight in the eye and said, "Because you guys filed a Sunshine Law request for it." There was dead silence from the reporter. But, not 30 seconds later, I saw CNN reporters carry on a 3.5 minute conversation about the possible motivation for the timing of the release of the videotape. If you ask me, we have less of a problem with race relations in this country, than we do have a problem with people sucking up drama like it is the very lifeblood of their existence. There is a reason that TV news has become all about manufacturing drama wherever it can; that's because it gets ratings! Because people have become so shallow that they consider drama to be intellectual conversation.

Alright, Moose. I really like your opinions about football, I respect them even. I always enjoy when you add to the conversation about the Irish.

You're talking out of your ass right now. If you don't understand why a community who is 75% African American, that has precisely 3 African American cops on the force, has been getting shit on for years, and got one of their own gunned down with no information as to why, what, where, or how. You are in for a rude awakening one of these days.

We're fucked, and it has nothing to do with "the CNN's" or "Manufacturing Dramas." It has to do with something a lot deeper. There's a zero sum game being played. By definition, there has to be losers. As long as we wanna keep that up, we're fucked. It's not going to come tomorrow, but it's going to come.

Was the first person actually brilliant? Is that factual? Was he a "social misfit?" If they are facts then they are facts.

Same applies to the second header. Was those factual representations of the individual? Just asking.

I didn't click on the links as they are from Huffington Post - a far left organization. No different than referencing Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh from the right.

However, if they used the Montgomery Advertiser as their reference for your second entry, it would be pretty funny as the Advertiser has similar left leaning tendencies in their reporting as the Huffington Post does.

Now, I live close to Montgomery, Alabama and if you would like to discuss crime, homicide, etc., in and around the Montgomery area let me know. There is plenty of it. If you want to discuss other issues then I am out.

Well, Tommy... that's not necessarily true and you know it. All the Blaze and Rushbo do are interpret news. HuffPo is mainly a compiler of news from all over. Of course, they editorialize and that is not to be taken as 'real journalism,' but linking something from AP/Reuters/NYT/WSJ/etc.. is just that.. a link.

These are just headlines which come from local news sources. I could link them all individually if you'd like. They came from Huffpo in that I saw them there, but that doesn't make the point any less valid.

The whole point is that they show how local news, or national news sources cover individuals. I would defy you to show me an example of a black mass shooter who was described anywhere as being 'brilliant, a social misfit, honor roll, misunderstood," or any of those things. But you know by experience that it happens all the time with white mass murderers. It's a cliche' that they are described as 'quiet, a good neighbor, charming, smart...etc."

It was only to prove a point and intentionally skewed, but I think the point is made none the less.

I think you're a thoughtful guy. Not trying to get on you.... but comparing a compilation of headlines to The Blaze isn't quite right.

Cheers.

Fair enough but I will respectfully disagree about HP. They may link articles, which is fine, but they are as far left in their editorials as they get.

Nobody's disagreeing there. Of course their editorials are left leaning. (I don't know if it's "as left as they get" but they're certainly Left!) However, I regularly read the WSJ because I think their news is spot on... I wouldn't 'believe' their editorial board though!

I wouldn't link Huffpo's headlines, those are just headlines from around the country... put together in such a way to make a point!

I think the point here is most people are a lot of things mostly good (hopefully) but sometimes given the wrong circumstances are capable of being very bad. The question is what is being portrayed about the person after the fact, and how that portrayal creates a self-fulfilling cycle. Also, how those portrayals influence the assumptions that are being made in the split second decisions that gun carrying cops and civilians are making on a daily basis. The narrative silently plays to those, as autry denson said, "who are very comfortable with their beliefs in the inherent difference of races" and creates a mitigating factor when that person allows their perceptions of a "situation," real or imagined to lead to a tragic and unwarranted ending.

This curfew is a terrible idea. If there was a curfew last night the looting would have been way worse because the citizens wouldn't have been able to stop the assholes who went out to cause trouble.

Sounds like you are in favor of the right to bear arms...btw I am near this and you are off your rocker with all the sympathy for these thugs breeding violence while pretending to seek justice....what hypocrites!
