This is as bad as the BYU loss.

At home, after a bye week, against a mid-level Pac-10 team not even in the "others receiving votes" category, using their back-up QB. Just awful. Worst loss of the Weis era so far, to me. I really don't know where the program goes from here. This was a disaster.

i think they came out and crapped the bed big time but a win is a win. i wish they would start to play consitenly. I know UCLA is on hell of defensive team but there is no reason to play that bad. how many dropped balls were there and how many times does BQ need to run for his life. start blocking or start sitting on the bench

Would you like to revise your statement?

You turned your set off to soon. ND won. 6-1 (And you've apparently missed a couple of games in the Weis eras so far.)

I know the win hurts you but deal with it!

Where the program goes from here is to next week's game.

One "W" at a time.

I know it's easy for us to give up. A few short years ago this team would lie down when the going got tough. Sure we were a little lucky. But we put ourselves in the position to win it. That's the difference in CW team. They never give up!

GUYS...
I hope you all care more than just about W's...
This was very ugly, things aren't getting better.
Just because we got a W, doesn't erase an awful performance - unless you have a very short attention span.

It wasn't the prettiest, and I don't think were a NC caliber team. But I'll give credit to our defense that held UCLA three times in a row at the end of the game to three and outs to give our offense a chance. Not every game is going to be "pretty". BTW UCLA does have the 9th ranked D in the country. Also, you might want to think about changing your signature. Lambert looks like he's developing nicely. No sweat though, I was even on the Lamber sucks bandwagon, but I never called for replacing him.

Let's put this in perspective.

UCLA came into the game with the 9th ranked defense in the country and Notre Dame sat at 75th. On offense, we were ranked 34th and UCLA ranked 66th. This game, from the outset, was a defensive battle. There was a reason UCLA's defense was ranked that high and our offensive line got to see it up close and personal today.

That said, we did enough to pull out the win. If you remove the two long plays by UCLA, you're looking at close to a shutout for Notre Dame. We played well against a very tough, capable defense. We won the battles that mattered, especially on fouth downs going 4 for 5. Additionally, our defense looked like a Top 10 unit today holding UCLA under 250 yards including only 26 yards on 28 rushing attempts.

Could the offense have played better? Sure. The bottom line is that this was a damn fine performance, in retrospect, against a Top 10 defense. And it was a win.

Sorry svo, I meant to say we are not improving on O.
We shouldn't even be in all these 4th and short plays. These 'lucky' wins only give the offense false confidence - if we lost this and the MSU game - people would be calling for darius's head and seriously questioning quinn's decision making.
I'm just sick of hearing how we have the 'best coaching staff in the country'- and we are playing teams with much-less talent than us and they are holding us in check. How did the new UCLA def coordinator change the 90th best D to #9? Is that not possible here?
I don't understand why people are content with this? Is it just because we are winning more than 6 games a year now?
I'll be fine with a 6-6 season if the teams consistently improves week to week. But we look just as sluggish as we did at GT.

Isn't this what makes a good team? Winning ugly, not having your A game and still you find away to win.

yes they give out scholarships but they still suck and they should not have been that close just because a team has scholarship players does not mean they are on the same talent leval. Duke gives out the same offers should they play Ohio that close?

I'll admit being quite frustrated at times during the game. And then, of course, it looked quite dismal. And I know we all would love to have ND win by 50. But you know what, when the defense stuffed UCLA, which allowed us to get the ball back, I got a little excited. And then, when they marched down the field--yes! And when Jeff took it in for the winning td, that was great. Who was caring about everything leading up to that? It was an exciting moment that many more will remember than if the game was over by the start of the fourth quarter. That is what so much of college football is about. I think a lot of us forget that. That was a hell of a game.

I also agree about the comments about winning dirty, etc. That's not to say there's no concerns, but that happens to all teams.

It's a little more than concerns. I think what is most frustrating is that we are 7 games into the season and the team does not really look that much better than they did in the 1st or 2nd game.

That's what makes me kind bummed. I really expected them to elevate their level of play from last year...and frankly I have not seen that at all.
